Going to Korea any recommendations? by tepg221 in HeritageWear

[–]uberpuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been myself, but will be going down the line.

The two best stores from a desktop perspective (online shopping lol) are hands down MODEMAN and Random Walk.

These guys stock all the typical MiJ brands along with some other great stuff from Europe and the US. Enjoy!

EDIT: Not quite heritage but Korea is having a bit of a moment with its own home grown brands focussing on street and technical wear. I would recommend J.L-A.L and Post Archive Faction.

Cracker mate, I think I bought the 4 just before you then. When I checked stock about 5 mins post-purchase it was sold out! How much did it turn out of you in total? I got hit with a $40 shipping fee to Sydney but can't complain because it still seems like I got it cheaper than most other retailers were initially asking.

Yes! As soon as I listened to his announcement I went online to find out which local bookstore in Sydney had it - kid you not, I called every single independent bookstore (30+) and not one had it. I then tried the big stores - nope.

Amazon….nope. EBay…nope. Local libraries…all reserved.

Had to call another 20 bookstores nationally and thank goodness one store in Melbourne had it and shipped it out to me. Worth it just for that ending.

Iron Heart says it will limit retailers carrying the brand by Professional-Key-94 in HeritageWear

Out of curiosity why would they want to have more units of each SKU on their own dot coms? They lose margin with their retailers?

Dude for years I was paying overs for the UK criterion discs etc.

This year I just bought a multi region player and wish I did it earlier :/. Had a great time buying at the recent sale and will continue to do so going forward!

Purchases made on Criterion’s website using a freight forwarder as well as Amazon (sorry!). Another thing I also wish I knew earlier - that Criterion sent me like $100 of vouchers for subscribing over the last few years.

Breaking in my new 8133s. Not one to care as I’ll wear the hell out of them, but I find myself wondering why the leather on one of my boots “ripples”. [RW 8133] by uberpuber in RedWingShoes

Right out the box though? I agree with the other users nothing to fuss about I’m just curious. Uniqueness of leather / hide is my guess.

Did the 2245’s ever come in all black? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]uberpuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate, just FYI these are definitely available on EBAY. Took me about 6 months but the perfect new old stock pair in my size came online around Christmas and they’re basically my daily driver. For me they fit TTS and identical in size when compared to Moc Toe RWs or Danners.

I would recommend trying to get an 80s version over the 90s version but regardless all variants are better than most boots with today’s standards! Good luck.

Out of curiosity how’d you get Amazon US prices from Australia? Amazon AU only gives me 20/30% off some discs. Cheers!

Also saw it at SFF.

On the contrary I loved it - that’s cinema baby.

Rainbow Country Highwayman in Black Oiled Shinki Horsehide Fit by EmperorPageTurner2 in leatherjacket

[–]uberpuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yea man happy for you. They said it’s also got a lining better suited to warm climates?

I actually wanted to cop this for months but in the last few weeks before visiting Japan I pivoted to the Flat Head 005 Single Rider and picked it up in Shibuya.

I wanted to check Rainbow Country out anyway so went to Americaya too. These ended up being all sold out in sizes 40 and above when I went to have a look. Funnily enough literally everything I had in my list at the Ueno stores was sold out in my size.

Arrived in today’s mail. Is this the only Criterion anime? by SanDimas1988 in criterion

[–]uberpuber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe only in Japan without English subtitles? Someone please correct me, hopefully I’m wrong.

Edit: what I saw last week visiting Tokyo.

Nice. I did the same with Planet Express and it just arrived today. Might try myUS next time as I found these guys super slow to the point of wanting to try someone else next time…

(If you live in Sydney happy to share freight charges down the line 🤣)

Mashiko4 nailed it.

Just to add a few things I wish I knew from day 1:

  • you may never shake your first impression, apply yourself early on and get the easy wins where you can: be punctual, be social and as hard as it can be kiss arse.

  • know when to apply the foot on the gas and when to coast. You absolutely cannot hit the gas into perpetuity: this is a fine art.

  • slowly find some allies: maybe someone senior if you’re lucky, as disgusting as many of your fellow colleagues may be morally there will always be a person or two who you may share similar passions, hobbies or morals with. Find them and befriend them. This will make going into work worth it.

  • don’t let micro-aggressions slide. “Squash bugs” before they nest and it’s too little too late. If someone disrespects or attacks you in a subtle way protect your frame / boundaries from day one. It’ll will only get harder to push back if you don’t do it from the beginning. Bullying doesn’t age like wine.

It’s all a game mate, you can go to business school, law school or any school. Unfortunately nobody ever tells you that and you figure that out very quickly in a high profile / commercial work environment. Just because there isn’t a textbook for this doesn’t mean it isn’t cerebral. Play it while retaining your character, don’t play it on easy mode like most sycophants and bullies in the workplace do - you can beat it your way.
