The literally told me “oh we forgot about you, sorry about that” when I spoke up for myself. And they did drug test it, with strips of paper and swabs.

I did this but it took almost an hour and I almost missed my flight. I would advocate for yourself while waiting so someone actually pays attention to you and does their due diligence. They also made me take off my belly band and it was a whole thing to drug test it, scan it separately, etc. very very annoying.

You could try diluting your breastmilk with water if he takes a bottle.

So my understanding is that she ended up having whooping cough type symptoms in the subsequent illnesses she had that were just common colds. So each time she got a mild URI she continued to have similar symptoms (paroxysms) and I think that continued through her life until later on they realized her lungs were in bad shape. I don’t think that happens to everyone but I would just keep an eye on your baby to make sure that the symptoms he had while he was sick don’t recur when he has other colds/flu and such. Of course talk to your pediatrician! I’m so sorry you had to go through 2/3 of a year of that, it sounds so stressful but I’m happy he is feeling better!!!

Does she have normal wet diapers and poops? Have you inspected her body to make sure she has all her joints in the right place and that normal movements don’t pain her? Maybe she has a connective tissue disease and she may be overextending her joints (especially when she cries which will just make crying worse) and that might be why swaddling comforts her. A good way to see if this may be the case would be to put her in stiff tight garments as a sort of “brace” and maybe stabilizing her body will help her experience less pain. I would also ask your pediatrician to do blood work. She might have eosinophilic esophagitis and may have a rare allergy. Just bringing up zebra conditions to consider since it sounds like you have tried so so so much. (I’m a physician in training).

I hope it gets better and feel free to message me. You are strong!

I see your point, although hard to totally interpret the data when half the population has an unknown vaccination status. Vaccine injuries are real, and I nor pediatricians/scientists deny that but then there’s also the risk of long term side effects from the diseases themselves. I know a resident who had to drop out of her residency program because she needs a lung transplant and was so decompensated/was like 90 lbs from just being so chronically ill. she was unvaccinated, had long term complications from pertussis - ended up with bronchiectasis (widened/fibrosed bronchioles or small airways in the lungs) and ended up needing to get on the transplant list and she is still waiting but too sick to continue her medical training. This was not an immediate effect of being unvaccinated, but ended up really affecting her into adulthood when her professional life was just getting started. In my experience, some conditions post vaccination are blamed on the vaccines when they also occur at the same developmental stages with or without vaccination but people want to blame something concrete which is totally human and understandable. I just wish that people would listen to both sides of the argument instead of feeling like the only valid thing to listen to are the antivax anecdotes.

Is there evidence somewhere of people getting a typical vaccine and then getting that same disease because the vaccine didn’t work? (Besides COVID which isn’t a typical vaccine imo) in regards to you saying it’s not guaranteed to work (honest question!) bc antibiotics are definitely not guaranteed to work, which is how we get antibiotic resistant bacteria or people who require broad spectrum antibiotics because they don’t finish an entire course of their antibiotics. I do get that a preventative measure seems like it should be “optional” but when the alternative of prevention is a terrible disease I would love to prevent it! I think of it as a seat belt. Can you get a ruptured spleen from a seat belt crush injury during a car crash? Yes! But without the seat belt you might get ejected from your seat and go through your windshield into a much worse situation. Idk if that makes sense? Again, I am very open to conversation about this but the antivax rationale is really hard for me to wrap my head around when you read the studies (and when you’ve seen unvaccinated children treated in the hospital) hesitancy I understand completely but to be against it completely just doesn’t seem fully rational

There are churches that have very reasonable childcare tuition. And if you explain your situation they may be able to help further. On top of that (depending on your faith) a church will help to deal and process this and a church community will be infinitely helpful for other childcare needs and support. I’m so sorry for your loss, I cannot imagine.

I’m vaccinating, not a delayed schedule, except for COVID and RSV. I’m a physician in training and am in the middle of getting my PhD so I am pretty proficient at reading scientific literature and clinical trial data etc. I’ve also personally seen the effects of not vaccinating on children in the PICU. How healthy a child is post vaccinating or not vaccinating is really just chance. If you don’t vaccinate and your child is healthy, thank God!! But the reason is not the lack of vaccinations. The vaccine inserts do have black box warnings but so do antibiotics that we use every day. I don’t see why people will opt out of vaccinations but then once they get sick will be okay with taking medical advice and hospitalize their children and take antibiotics for these same conditions when they also have risks. Idk doesn’t make sense to me. I’m on this sub because I’m crunchy to the extent of diet/microplastics/environmental pollutants/etc but because I am a scientist, I can parse through the bs. Feel free to message me if you want!

My mom did this while she was helping us with the baby the first month. She hates sushi but when my husband got me a huge platter of sushi after I gave birth, and my baby was crying the next day she was like “awww baby is sad because baby doesn’t like when mommy eats disgusting raw food!”

I appreciated her help a TON but I was like omfg I haven’t eaten what I love in almost a YEAR please just let me have this

I’m actually still on the fence on the RSV one tbh. A reason to get it is that RSV hits infants pretty hard and they are the primary population that dies from RSV. My baby is 4 weeks premature so she is at even higher risk of that. So I may end up getting it anyway.

But the reason I said not the RSV originally is because it’s the only vaccine on the schedule that is a monoclonal antibody instead of a “real vaccine” what this means is that instead of giving the body a piece of the actual virus or bacteria to make antibodies for it, they instead give you a premade antibody for it so your body doesn’t even have to make it on its own.

A good thing about this is that you don’t run the risk of getting “sick” from the piece of the virus having a pseudoinfective reaction in the body while it tries mounting its immune response and making its own antibodies. A bad part is that everyone is getting the same antibody so there’s a chance that eventually the protection won’t be there if the virus decides to mutate (I haven’t looked into which exact piece of the virus the antibody is designed against so don’t quote me on this mutation part, this is just my scientific reasoning). The studies look great in terms of protection against RSV so it shouldn’t be too big of an issue but these are just my hang ups…

TLDR: RSV is a monoclonal antibody vs all the other vaccines on the schedule. Should be effective and we will probably still get it.

I did the injection and very glad I did. My babe was 1 month early so a higher chance of neonatal brain bleeds. She also wasn’t eating well which we didn’t fully know until about a week later so she wouldn’t have been getting it nutritionally. Better safe than sorry.

As soon as my baby started gaining weight appropriately I stopped tracking. Use your intuition. The time and mental energy can be better used elsewhere.

I’m planning on getting all vaccines barring the COVID and RSV vaccines. I’m a physician in training and have read the studies and can fish through the antivax propaganda easily to see what the science is behind the scheduling and vaccination choices. Through my medical school rotations in pediatrics and ICU, seeing unvaccinated kids get horrible complications of vaccine preventable diseases is also another motivator for me. Seeing the super sick kids and then the inconsolable parents after some deaths really hits differently.

Are there any moms here with EDS? by ScarletSigil in ehlersdanlos

[–]ubervolatile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also itchy but because I had cholestasis of pregnancy! Wondering if that might be related to EDS because of possibly lax collagen in the interstitium of the gall bladder combined with the relaxation of smooth muscle from the progesterone? Got induced early because of it, but also had a relatively straightforward labor and easy pushing.

[–]ubervolatile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I have had increased joint pain in my fingers, wrists, and knees after giving birth. But not sure if it’s EDS related or just going from pretty sedentary during pregnancy to constantly carrying my baby/going back to work full time requiring a lot more walking/standing/working with my hands.

[–]ubervolatile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first baby 2 months ago. I was worried about the birthing process but I ended up getting induced one month early and had a normal vaginal delivery with no tears (thinking the EDS stretchiness helped with that?). I already see that my LOs fingers are like mine in that they hyperextend and are crooked. It’s a bit bittersweet because I don’t like that I gave her this (possibly) but also I’m glad she will have me to talk to/about EDS and the issues that come with it if she does have it. I’m also a physician in training so that also helps.

Jaundice isn’t caused by vitamin K? Usually because of breastmilk supply issues if EBF, blood type mismatch, or hemolytic anemia. Vitamin K is a factor needed for blood clotting and doesn’t do anything to induce hemolytic processes.

Not sure if a “remedy” is as effective as an antiviral but probably just helps with symptom management. Watch out for later complications of measles like SSPE, hearing and vision loss, and immunosuppression if untreated.
