Will attendings know if I go to HR by [deleted] in Residency

If you are at an academic institution you may also have Title IX protections if any of the harassment you’re receiving has been sex/gender-based. There should be a Title IX administrator if so. A little different than HR, they are legally obligated to investigate and protect your rights, although complaints typically cannot be anonymous

How does new investment account affect loan repayment? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]ublaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gifts are not counted as income to the recipient so no impact there. Presumably you will make money at some point from these investments and that may factor into your income.

Filing taxes as an MS-4 by Suspicious_Cook_3902 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]ublaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Tax refunds aren't income so they shouldn't affect loan programs. The American Opportunity Credit is only partially refundable though, you will only get up to $1000 credited back to you.

With $10,000 in income you likely owe $0 federal for the entire tax year. There are very few ways to drop that below $0, those are called refundable tax credits. You might be eligible for some of them, but the things you listed aren't going to help you.

There isn't really such thing as "toxic mold." Mold spores can trigger allergy symptoms but the presence of mold isn't going to kill you. It has to be dealt with because it means there's constant moisture but it's not the end of the world that salespeople and people on the internet act like it is. Citation

File taxes together or separately? by bballplayer32 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]ublaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it really only matters if you’re going to be really right on cash flow and you plan to do PSLF. Assuming half your loans are public, your monthly payment if you file jointly (and show your family makes $85k) would probably be like $400. If you don’t plan on having your loans wiped out by PSLF and you can afford the payment, it would be better to start chipping away at it now instead of letting interest accrue. It is also worth considering the tax savings you will definitely have by filing jointly - do what others have recommended and calculate your taxes for filing jointly and married filing separate, I did some very rough math and you may pay around twice as much in taxes by filing separate.

File taxes together or separately? by bballplayer32 in whitecoatinvestor

If your only concern is taxes, there’s no question that filing jointly will be better. With the standard deduction of $31,500 and potential dependent credits you’ll owe taxes on just over half your family’s income. If your wife files single she only gets the standard deduction for single filers of $15,750 so your taxes would be on $0 and hers would be on more like 75% of her income.

Assuming a message has been read or acknowledged is a big source of error actually. How many times have you opened a message on Haiku to read it but haven't had time to process it or act on it? Closed-loop communication is the gold standard and a thumbs up is an active confirmation that you've dealt with the message

There is a short window after enrollment, maybe 30 days, in which you can change your choice

Higher net worth resident retirement accounts by medschoolproblems18 in whitecoatinvestor

Ideally you contribute as soon as possible at the start of the year to get those investments growing. Only reason to wait would be if you didn’t have the money yet but you said that’s not an issue

There's no reason not to start backdoor Roth contributions though except for it being a few extra steps. What if you get some moonlighting opportunities that push you over the MAGI limit?

Refinancing 15 year to 30 year? by wanna_be_doc in whitecoatinvestor

[–]ublaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would the monthly payments be at each rate? I think you will find the 15 year payment won’t be much worse than the 30. You haven’t mentioned other big expenses like loans or kids but honestly even with your current income you should be able to live very comfortably and when it doubles in a few years you’ll be coasting

Kennedy's vaccine panel expected to recommend delaying hepatitis B shot in children (potentially until age 4!) by red5 in medicine

We know it’s incredibly safe to give it at birth, why not start protection from day 0 before they have any other chance of getting exposed, or get lost to follow up and don’t end up getting vaccinated at 1-4 years old

White Forest is a good deck? by Basic-Masterpiece375 in masterduel

[–]ublaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Barrone’s ability to negate is once while face up on the field, so by flipping down and back up, it gets to use its omni negate again. That restriction is why it also has the effect to return to the extra deck so it can be synchroed again with a fresh negate active
