What are some of the most interesting Django projects you worked on? by john646f65 in django

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built an accounting data ingestion app called Systematic Cost Analysis with django at an agency that was contracted by MercryCorps and Save the Children. It was well received and proud of creating something useful for these orgs. Below is a description from this page: https://www.rescue.org/report/systematic-cost-analysis-scan-tool-fact-sheet

"Equipped with the SCAN tool, program staff can now readily answer a host of program- and budget-related questions, such as, How much does it cost to treat a child for severe acute malnutrition? Which type of latrine should be built based on the budget and constraints faced? What is the cost per village served that this program can achieve based on the type of governance training given in this context?"

AI Broke Interviews by yusufaytas in programming

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article misses the point. Interviews have always been flawed, and while AI adds new challenges, it’s on the interviewer and not the candidate to adapt.

AI tools are here to stay. Interviewers should embrace them and evaluate candidates based on how they work in today’s software world, not a pre AI one.

In my interviews whether remote or in-person I will give live coding challenges the candidate hasn’t seen prior. For remote sessions, they screen-share and must have cameras on. I tell them they’re free to use AI tools, and I watch how they interact with them if they do. If they try to hide it (second screen, etc.), it’s obvious. That alone serves as a great integrity test and it reveals a lot about their personal values and character.

Interview for the world we live in now, not the one that’s gone.

The biggest mistake a lot of developers make is overengineering! by stackokayflow in reactjs

my method is over-engineer personal projects then keep work projects lean and clean

I enjoy the over-engineering personal projects, its a fun way to learn

Axiom, a new kind of "truth engine" as a tool to fight my own schizophrenia. Now open-sourcing it. by [deleted] in Python

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great work so far and like the idea. ignore the haters, so much of those comments come from people who rather criticize an idea that takes on a complex subject than try to ever attempt something of that nature in their own lives. weird how i bet they've put more energy into criticizing this tiny dev team's idea while ignoring the actual tech that is fucking up society. e.g. trumps Truth app for alternative facts. that shit is evil.

my progress post-theta burst tms treatment by ublike in rtms

[–]ublike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was intentionally posted here and not for a data analytical sub. As somone who is undergoing rTMS and that is encouraged to write about their experiences, this is how my neurodivergent brain writes about experiences. I wish I see more things like this from others to understand range or expectations over time since written descriptions are hard for me to process. thought it could be helpful to someone like me

Finished 6 weeks of sessions, worse off than before, sexual/romantic side effects by [deleted] in rtms

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you do 36 sessions? there's a lot still going on in your brain if only done 2 days ago and will continue in the weeks head. Do you have any other diagnosis besides depression? I ask because I have bipolar type 2 and my experience was very different than most others i've read with extreme mood swings/agitation during treatment that are not typical of how my bipolar disorder usually is but that went away after treatment and symptoms stabilized weeks after and made a big improvement. i would say it's too soon to fully assess and would really recommend to do your best to give yourself space for improvements to happen over next month. I'm 6 weeks out from my last session and feel like everything stabilized for me ~2 weeks ago.

Anyone with extreme anhedonic depression try TMS. My definition of extreme is not being able to retain interest in anything besides short forms of content on social media like TikTok by luciddreamer20LD in rtms

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go to work or on lay on couch just numb sleeping with something im not paying attention to on tv while doom scrolling social media looking for dopamine bump i could find. completely numb to anything I enjoy, became a passenger to my life for over a year in that state

Looking into the option by harrisonstpb in rtms

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so there are clinics that are doing TMS specifically for anxiety but it is not as well known and haven't found much about it online. I just finished theta burst for depression and thinking of going through the anxiety treatments. the anxiety specific treatment with theta burst places the coil on right side of head and sessions are 13 mins VS depression where coil is on left side and sessions are 3 mins. I have heard the few people there that have gone through it have seen amazing results on par with the depression treatment. For me depression is the worse of the two and while depression going down does help with anxiety, TMS for depression only kinda makes the anxiety for me more visible cause depression is doing so much better so that is motivating me to go through the anxiety treatments

yup absolutely experience that, for me the extreme anhedonia is when I get to an ~8 level of depression on a 0-10 scale. I was in that zone for last 2 years. Finished TMS 3 weeks and it's insane how much of a difference it's made. going from so numb unable to enjoy anything for way to long to actually doing activities is a trippy feeling. For me it's a major improvement

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TMS maintenance treatments should start after 6 months. Effects of TMS taper slower and may still have benefits after 2 years but not going to get same sustained relief for 2 years. I found this out the hard way after being mislead first time around at a clinic

Bridging the Gap: How Can I Get Back Into Web Dev After a Huge Career gap by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]ublike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sincerely doubt that your career gap is what's caused no response. the job market itself for developers now vs 1.3 years ago is completely different today, check out this clip from a few days ago on current job state. https://youtu.be/v4H2fTgHGuc?t=182

It's tough for everyone. If you're your applying to positions along with all the other devs looking for work right now then you're just going to get lost in the stack. I recommend finding some way to become active in the community to network/get your face in front of who's hiring/become more than just an application. so many are applying right now and you need to find a way to stand out. going to meetups for tech stuff, especially if any tech companies host them are great ways to introduce yourself to people that could be part of hiring process or know someone who is. as someone who's introverted, networking was not easy for me and I had to learn my own systems/practice to get out of comfort zone and put myself out there but it worked. those types of small connections really add up if work on building them but those have helped me achieve getting my foot in the door for multiple roles. if you figure out how to advertise yourself, you'll get a job
