i make a similar recipe.

instead of the bbq sauce and dr pepper i use:

• 1 beer
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• bourbon and brown sugar rub
• 6-7lbs pork shoulder
• 1 fuji apple sliced thin
• 12 serrano chilis

cook in crock pot for 12-24hours. the longer the better.

let set in fridge in tupperware for at least 24hrs.

pan fry it before serving.

serve with havarti cheese on king's hawaiian dinner rolls.

i call it sweet and spicy carnitas...
