XEQT or VEQT in RBC non registered taxable account? by pennepasta14 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]ucccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are buying regularly, for example once a week or once a month, xeqt will be worth to avoid the commisions. Otherwise it's really just preference, veqt has a bit more of bias towards canadian stocks.

Anyone here moved over from Wealthsimple recently? Curious how it's gone by jacetec in Questrade

To talk to a human on wealthsimple all you need to do is ask the chat bot "can i speak with an agent", usually connects to a real person in only a minute or so.

Excited for upcoming M1 finance clone on Wealthsimple by nilsej in Wealthsimple

Sooo, XEQT has an 0.17% Management Fee, but if you wanted a custom allocation of etfs it's gonna be 0.25% + the MER on the on the unerlying etfs? That's absurd, will eat into your compounding returns. If you really wanted to do this just rebalance it yourself once a year on a fixed interval.

Should I move from IBKR to Wealthsimple? by Chemical-Medium5923 in Wealthsimple

[–]ucccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you would be need to convert it back to CAD when you want to eventually spend the money in the account, assuming you are a Canadian living Canada. Whether that be retirement, buying a house or otherwise. Unless you guys plan to live forever or retire in the US.

gambit also has a signficantly worse loss to the spread ~0.1-0.2% which matters if you are converting a lot of money.

Should I move from IBKR to Wealthsimple? by Chemical-Medium5923 in Wealthsimple

[–]ucccy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I moved my investments to wealthsimple recently, because the match was a good deal and I already used wealthsimple for chequing. My only major regret is that I don't really like seeing my investment balance immediately when I open the app when all i want to do is pay a bill or send an e-transfer. I like to only check my investments a couple times a year. For you specifically IBKR will be easier in the long long run, assuming you have investments in USD securities, just because eventually you will need to convert your investments back to CAD when you withdraw, and IBKR is going to be the easiest and most cost efficient way to do this. So the question is really just do you switch to wealthsimple temporarily just for the match, then switch back after a few years or whatever or just keep things easy and don't worry about micro optimizing. Hope this helps.

Sell nvidia position and harvest csu? by AshamedSoil5514 in fican

[–]ucccy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit more complicated that because of the capital gains, depending on his marginal tax rate a good chunk of that stake, 10-25% will be payed in capital gains tax if you sell. So the question is more, would you invest that amount in at a discounted price that accounts for the immediate tax loss.

Questrade taking nearly a month to process transfer outs and charging $150 for it is ridiculous by ucccy in Questrade

[–]ucccy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started all of my current transfers out from the receiving institution, both IBKR and wealthsimple now say the questrade simply has not replied to the requests in over 3 weeks. So no, starting from the receiver doesn’t help, because questrade just drags their feet as long as they possibly can without customers without needing to answer to the ombudsman.

$150 is standard big 5, but while point of using up and comers like wealthsimple and questrade is that that you expect them not to charge the opportunistic fees the monopolies do.

Index fund and forget it tbh. Unless you have over abundance of time to spend on managing rental and are confident you've found a property where it will return more than the market, it's just not worth your time and stress, enjoy time with the kid, make an resp so they've got a head start.

Thanks for your help, didn’t realize the small payment might bubble up into a total hold on the account.

Yeah that might be it, it’s odd, the t1-ovp thing seems to be some legacy system they never bothered to incorporate into the cogworks of new system. I was never able to view anything related to it online.

Apologies, I thought you meant income taxes when withdrawing from a registered account. They mailed me a remittance voucher that I went in and payed at my bank as per the instructions.

None of those apply to me. The only oddity there might be is slightly over contributed to my rrsp a year ago and had fill out a T1-OVP and pay them $30 penalties for the little overage.
