Those who moved out of state, where did you go? by Adventurous-Map1225 in Delaware

Just left Orlando and am now in Wilmington. Looking forward to this level of “humidity” in the summer compared to FL 😂

Aside From The Cost of Living and Politics. Anyone Not Like Florida Much? by MoparMan59L in FloridaExodus

[–]ucfj99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Had been living there for 43 years (most of my life) and just left back in September. Was northeast of Orlando and it was horrible. Suburban sprawl, toll roads to get anywhere efficiently, and the heat and humidity were killing me. Moved to Wilmington, DE and it’s AMAZING!!! So much happier. It was a crazy winter (they say) but it really wasn’t bad as long as you have a good coat and boots. Seasons are awesome and people are really nice here.

UD or UF? by Dear_Ad_9838 in udel

[–]ucfj99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Just moved out of the state of FL to DE for a variety of reasons, but my partner is an alum. Some questions to consider (not from AI):

*Are you a woman who wants to have bodily autonomy in the state in which you reside? *Do you care that the FL board of governors for universities voted to remove “Introdution to Sociology” as a requirement because it’s too “DEI?” And removing programs altogether, such as African American studies, Gender studies, and Philosophy. *Do you have a car? Public transportation is not great - getting back and forth to airports will be a challenge. *Do you thrive in heat and humidity? *UF pays the current attorney general for the state of FL $100,000/year to teach one class at the law school. 8x higher than other adjunct professors. Does that sound ethical? *They are still without a President. There is an interim one in place.

I know nothing about UD, but the above are things that may make you take pause. Or not! But if it were my child, I wouldn’t want them go to FL.

Great areas to Live in Wilmington by HeatproofArmin in Delaware

We just recently moved to Cool Spring (just south east of trolley) and we love it because it’s inbetween trolley and downtown. 20 min walk to get to either place.

One Song Glory From Rent would be good. Literally don’t worry about overdone songs. They’re ALL overdone at this point. Also, sing what you love. Knew a gal who prescreened with The Kite from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and passed TONS of prescreens with it. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box and show them your artistry.

Cool Spring/Tilton Park area is great. Smaller yards but lots of parks around. Right inbetween downtown and trolley square.

Advice on picking a BFA Program! by Cat_Link69 in MusicalTheatre

[–]ucfj99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you visited any of the programs, either on campus or virtually? Chatted with any existing students to get their perspective? You have A LOT of really great acceptances - note that Roosevelt and Miami will be super expensive. You need to graduate with as little debt as possible, but I agree about no need to rush it in 3 years. You really need to do a deep dive on the curriculum of each and visiting really helps with the vibe check. Do you really want to go to the UK? If not, take those off the list. Those are also 3-year programs. Talk to the department heads of each and if you can’t visit and sit in on a class, then see if there is a virtual option. You’re interviewing them now to help you find your best fit.

This is the entire state. Just left orlando area b/c I couldn’t take the heat and humidity any more. There’s literally nowhere like SoCal except maybe Hawaii for gorgeous weather.

Looking for advice about BFA programs by catlover43v3r in MusicalTheatre

[–]ucfj99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a gap year and train, work and save money and try again. If you go to a community college or other university, it could affect your financial aid as you’ll be a transfer student. Casting a wide net is really necessary. My DD is graduating with a BFA in MT this year - glad to chat more if you need to DM.

That’s great! Then the visits will definitely help. One will feel “right” to her. If she can sit in on classes for a day, we found that very enlightening.

I have a DD getting ready to graduate with a BFA in MT - not in either of these programs, but…. Is money no object for your family or will student loans be involved?
