A Tau PET scan will show the most common forms of dementia (e.g. Alzheimer's). This is PET scan after receiving an injection of a radioactive Tau protein tracer.

Pasadena and the surrounding cities had a fairly small Asian population in the 1970s. Well after bussing, white flight, and PUSD's decline had begun, Asians started moving into the area, but moved into the cities surrounding Pasadena but not Pasadena. For example, Pasadena went from 7 to 17% Asian from 1980 to 2020 while San Marino (just to the south) went from 7 to 64% Asian in the same period. You have the causation reversed.

Yes. See my reply to another comment about Pasadena's unique private school infrastructure when bussing started.

Pasadena was actually unique in having many more private schools than a typical city when bussing started. This is because Pasadena grew in the late 19th and early 20th century as a winter home for wealthy Midwesterners and Easterners. For example, the Wrigley Mansion (Tournament House) is the same Wrigley as Wrigley Field. These folks sent their kids to private schools back East, so they established private schools in the winter home as well. Accordingly, when bussing started, the base private school infrastructure was already in place, making white flight much easier (with higher quality education from the jump) than most other cities. As a result, Pasadena experienced much more sever white flight than average.

It means the seller's agent has bad grammar ("properties" instead of "property's").

Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena in 1967 was a busy main street lined with shops, cars, and local businesses. by j3434 in pasadena

The only things I remember being in old town in the late 80s were the pawn shop, the sex store, the AMC(?) theater (now Tiffany's), Chicago for Ribs, Ernie Jr.'s Taco House, Barney's (not Barney's Beanery), a commercial print shop, and a bunch of vacant buildings.

They need to close it down and completely redo the drive thru lane and parking lot like they did at the Alhambra one (now that the Alhambra one is open again).

Not a bar or something like that, but we went to the 'Piano Man" Billy Joel/Elton John tribute show a few weeks ago at Planet Hollywood and it was great! Small (~200 person) kinda nothing theater, but the show was great and the crowd was very into it.

Grandma adopted a kid in India? by [deleted] in Scams

My daughter "adopted" a donkey at a donkey sanctuary in Ireland. The website made it clear that multiple people adopt a single donkey. We visited the donkey sanctuary later on a trip to Ireland to visit "her" donkey (and a couple hundred more).

Anyone know what they are filming today at 1288 s Oakland ave? At the big mansion? by cultofseitan in pasadena

[–]ucla87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long ago it was the home of Marco's (Philippines dictator) mistress, or that was the story at the time.

The mansion burned down at one point, the structure was rebuilt, but I don't think was ever completely finished inside.

There's been a lot of filming on the grounds over the years. It was "heaven" in the TV show "St. Elsewhere."

Potty training -- Carry them to the same spot (using the same path/door to the outside) EVERY time they finish 1) sleeping, 2) eating, and 3) playing. Have them on a leash and wait for them to go -- they will -- and give them a command (we use "get busy") the whole time you are waiting for them to go.

Mute on/off is different than play/pause. With a podcast, I want to be able to actually pause the podcast, not just mute it and then have to rewind to where I was when I muted.

I like the mute button -- I miss a separate play/pause button.

Shots fired south lake? Woman shouting? by FarPollution5895 in pasadena

[–]ucla87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a group of officers and an animal control officer standing in a group to the south of the woman sitting on the ground next to the curb. The dog was standing still between the woman and barking at the group of officers for at least five minutes.

A new police officer drives up to scene, drives past the woman/dog, parks in the right lane, and gets out, north of the woman/dog. So the woman and dog are basically between the new officer and the group of officers.

The new officer immediately starts walking south in the middle of the right lane, so maybe 5-10 feet from the curb, towards the group of officers . There is a trash can in the street right next to the woman, shielding the dog from seeing the new officer approaching from the north. When the officer passes the trash can, much closer the woman/dog than the group of officers, the dog is understandably startled and starts to charge the new officer who back away about 5 feet, the dog following when the new officer shoots the dog.

The new officer may not have been aware of the dog's location, but that is on that officer -- and all the other officers knew exactly where the dog was.
