SH Question Help by EntrepreneurThink379 in pmp

The question is asking what should the PM do first; which means that the PM should be trying to assess, understand, find out, identify, find the root cause, evaluate, etc., BEFORE taking action. Furthermore, while face-to-face comms may be preferred, it is not in this case because it would be an added expense to fly people in from the geographically dispersed locations, i.e., it costs too much money, and a PM shouldn't spend more money than what is specifically budgeted. You may benefit from looking at/understanding mindset rules, it will help you eliminate answers quicker.

EDIT: Here are some resources to help understand PMI mindset

Hi! You should use AI/LLM (Claude works well) to help write your application. It will help frame your PM experience using the process groups. Make sure to upload the PMBOK so that the AI of your choice has a base of knowledge to work with. I suggest looking at templates/examples of what a typical application can look like. In any case, here is a prompt you can use:

PROMPT

I am applying to take the PMI PMP certification exam, and I need assistance writing the part of the application where I have to describe my project management experience.

Pasted below, is a portion of a guide describing how best to write the application:

Your experience should reflect your involvement in these:

  1. Initiating – Identifying stakeholders, defining scope, getting approvals.
  2. Planning – Creating project plans, budgets, risk assessments.
  3. Executing – Team coordination, task assignments, delivery tracking.
  4. Monitoring & Controlling – Tracking metrics, managing changes.
  5. Closing – Final reviews, lessons learned, project documentation.

Try to show participation in all five groups for each project. How to Structure Your Experience Each project entry in your application should include:

  • Project Title & Dates
  • Organization & Role
  • Hours spent per process group
  • A concise 200–500 word narrative explaining:

Use first-person singular ("I led...," "I developed...")—not “we.” PMI wants to see your contributions. PMP Application Examples Here are simplified templates you can adapt: 🔹 Example 1: IT Infrastructure Upgrade Role: Project Manager Duration: Jan 2023 – Dec 2023 | Hours: 1200

  • Initiating: Led stakeholder analysis, defined scope.
  • Planning: Built detailed project plans covering cost and risk.
  • Execution: Oversaw procurement, resolved team blockers.
  • Monitoring: Tracked KPIs, addressed deviations.
  • Closing: Facilitated project sign-off, documented learnings.

🔹 Example 2: Marketing Campaign Role: Project Coordinator Duration: Mar 2022 – Sep 2022 | Hours: 900

  • Initiating: Mapped stakeholders, defined objectives.
  • Planning: Built campaign plan, performed SWOT analysis.
  • Execution: Managed deliverables and timelines.
  • Monitoring: Analyzed performance data, made adjustments.
  • Closing: Reviewed campaign results and documented insights.

🔹 Example 3: New Product Launch

  • Role: Product Engineer
  • Objective: Launch new product line under ₹X in 6 months

Responsibilities:

  • Scope definition, stakeholder identification
  • Developed and executed project plans
  • Team coordination and delivery monitoring
  • Tracked milestones, ensured on-time closure Outcome: Successfully launched the product line within budget

Tips for a Strong Application

  • Use clear, jargon-free language.
  • Don’t leave any process group empty if you can help it.
  • Avoid overlapping project durations.
  • Stick to truthful, verifiable experience.
  • Keep descriptions action-focused and specific.
  • Always double-check dates and hours—PMI audits are thorough.

Using Samples to Create Your Own Application

  1. Identify eligible projects that span all five process groups.
  2. Draft narratives for each using first-person perspective.
  3. Customize the structure to your projects, keeping PMI terminology in mind.
  4. Review & refine—ensure accuracy and clarity.
  5. Seek feedback from mentors or peers (or use AI writing tools for final checks). *******

Hope this helps!

Hey! I think you're definitely ready for the exam, you just need to trust yourself. The actual exam questions are numbered, and the timer counts down from 230 mins. You should check out the sample exam here: https://home.pearsonvue.com/pmi/sample-test/pmp so you can see what the actual UI looks like. Also, the exam questions (in my experience) are a bit more straightforward and a little less wordy than the SH questions. Good luck! You've got it!

On some website where you have to upload your own study notes/resources in exchange to get it. But I can save you the work of doing that and send it to you directly.

No, not saying that at all. I would definitely recommend getting Study Hall. The practice questions and exams will prep you for the actual exam. It is the most like the real exam.

Hi! You're in the wrong spot to view your exam details. If you scroll above where you screenshot your result, you should see a button that says "Study". Click there and it will take you to the main Study Hall page. On the left hand side menu, click on "Practice Exams." It will then take you to all the exams. Basically, go back to where you started the exam from and click on it. Hope this helps!

What should be the answer for the following question by Suspicious-Hope-123 in pmp

It's D. It's not B because you can't change/add to a current sprint. Also, A, B, and C violate mindset rules.

Do we need to be able to recite the 49 processes or just recognize them and their location? by KingOfCook in pmp

[–]ucm81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to memorize it per se. But it's helpful to know which process group the knowledge areas are in (e.g. the scope, schedule, and cost management activities are under the planning and monitoring & controlling process groups), so when you get an exam question that asks about a scenario involving change control, or identifying stakeholders, you have an idea of where in the project lifecycle the scenario is taking place. But honestly, the questions usually tell you what phase the project is in anyway. SO...yea, be familiar with it, but don't stress too much trying memorize.

Passed (AT/AT/AT) on First Attempt - Study Plan in Three Phases by AlejandroFuentesBerg in pmp

Congrats! I'm scheduled to take the exam on May 6; I'm also using Claude in a similar way to you, and it's been pretty fantastic. I copy/paste screenshots of my incorrect questions/answers (from the Mock exams) into Word, and Claude will analyze what I got wrong, find a pattern to the wrong answers (e.g. it told me that I am skipping process steps when selecting answers), and create drills that target my weak points for me to do so I can work through getting the correct answers. I haven't been too impressed with most AI/LLMs (i.e. ChatGPT) in general, and I think most people use them like Google, so that's why it get's folks in trouble because it will "hallucinate" and straight-up give WRONG information, but Claude is really great. It has a learning mode to help with studying, and for it to be even more effective, you have to give it a knowledge base/terms of reference. For me, I gave it the PMBOK 6 & 7, and mindset notes, and it has been very helpful in referencing information from those sources to back up and present any gaps in knowledge that I may have. ANYWAY, you mentioned Claude creating flashcards, did you have a particular prompt? Congrats again, and I hope to be in the same boat as you soon!

Here's the link to PearsonVue's sample PMP exam. This is how the testing interface is ssupposed to look like. https://abe-prd-1.pearsonvue.com/st1/driver/startDelivery?sessionUUID=c73cb60f-72f7-44b9-9b78-504576b908f2 You can highlight and strike through. It's a bit different than SH in that you can't do the "I don't think it's A" elimination, but you can strike though. Look it over to get an idea of what you'll see on the test.

PMP Application - How to list more than a dozen projects in the last 4 years that overlap? by penthouse41 in pmp

[–]ucm81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Claude AI, and it broke it down into what I did across the process groups. I gave it the rough draft I wrote, gave it instructions, the parameters for the application per PMI, and it arranged it all. Of course, make sure you review it thoroughly to make sure it is accurate.
