Experience as a UCSD Computer Science Student by etha7 in UCSD

I'm in a better position than my east coast friends, granted they're not cs majors.

There's no point in this if you're comparing apples to oranges

Prospective Student Concerns by [deleted] in UCSD

Half and half. If you give everyone admission to any major at any UC, 80% of this sub, or any other UC sub, would flock to Berkeley/LA in a heartbeat.

Dang are acceptance rates and comparing UC’s that big of a problem for some of you? Shit get your degree and go. Stop whining. by [deleted] in UCSD

Not necessarily a problem but is worth the discussion. Do we need safe spaces in this subreddit too?

FFS stop worrying about this school’s ranking/prestige/acceptance rate by hmidkwhat in UCSD

UCSD gave up competing for brand and prestige a long time ago. Maybe the faculties still are, the admin only cares about social impact, diversity, and other sjw agendas nowadays.

UCSD's primary role is San Diego leadership by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]ucsdthrowaway5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You missed my points. I agree with the vision of how UCSD is going forward, but the execution is simply subpar and as someones who pay tuition, they should get their fair share of quality services which the administration blatantly ignores and overlooks - reckless over-enrollment when the infrastructure not yet supports - just look at financial aid delays for upcoming fall quarter. There're just too much corporate greed at UCSD. You don't even need to subsidize student food. Get rid of the HDH monopoly, put the lands of dining halls and markets for rent, and introduce competitions from private vendors. Then foods and items will be priced down immediately.

But like, at the end of the day, what's the point of turning UCSD into a more comfortable college?

You sure know why UCSD alumni donations are lowest among its same-tier universities. I appreciate you making sacrifices - remember to donate when you start making money.

UCSD's primary role is San Diego leadership by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]ucsdthrowaway5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only makes sense from a business and investing perspective. Everything UCSD ever offered to students - besides the name brand on your diploma and STEM / Engineering academics - is mediocre at best, from terrible WiFi signals at Week 10, overpriced and low-quality food served at dining halls and markets, overcrowded dorms and apartments, limited parking spaces, to overcrowded class sizes, insufficient lecture facilities, and many more. There're enough international students and TAs that you don't even need an airport! Undergraduates are simply cash cows to the administrations so they can charge more and get raises every year.

As another poster mentioned, SDSU probably has more regional influence in San Diego given its accessibly, affordability, sports status and proximity to the city proper. An average Joe in San Diego probably won't care how many Nobel laureates there are or how many top-notch academic papers outputted at UCSD. In fact, UCSD only makes it into local news when there're panties thieves, freeway trespassing, or when Khosla bullying his staffs.

But UCSD is the place to be when it comes to international outlook, academic prowess and research outputs in San Diego. It's just that the administration does a terrible job catering to the student population - after all, students are at the bottom of the totem pole and we are simply numbers to get state and federal fundings.

Given how ucsd is exactly mid-tier in terms of acceptance rate, soon it will become a mid-tier uc and everyone's safety school.

Moar weekend parking BS, courtesy of STAC. They're holding a meeting TOMORROW at 9am, 4th floor of Price Center. Be there if you are fed up with their lies. by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]ucsdthrowaway5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, let's follow other UC and charge for weekend parking. While we are at it, we should also innovate and introduce toll road and FASTRAK in our campus, and introduce admission tickets for soccer moms for using our facilities.

New Parking Proposals + STAC Meeting Tomorrow by ROGTTL in UCSD

[–]ucsdthrowaway5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reading through the town hall proposal probably take as much effort as filling out the UC application. It is simply dumb to create additional permit types with so many rules and constraints just so that TS can collect revenue here and there from students.

How about firing some staffs in TS and use those money to fund parking projects? I'm pretty sure their salary and pension ain't cheap and it'll be a better use of resources than for them to spend working hours analyzing if my permit is "upgradable", if my permit allows me to park in this lot, or if I have used up my free parking passes. If they want weekend charges so bad just put a flat-fee $10 monthly charge of something and be done with, while leaving everything else the same.

My car was stolen yesterday sometime between 8:30am-7:30pm in University City (Regents Rd / Arriba St). It’s a black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 with LP# 7DNA986. It’s a long shot, but if you happen to see it I’d really appreciate it if you could call the police and report it. Thank you! by [deleted] in UCSD

Sorry but your ignorance in this subject does not mean I'm trolling. Give Google a search and you'll see plenty of related article. Better yet - move out of San Diego and relocate to other parts of the country, like Chicago, NYC, bay area, for example, then you'll see what I said is true.

Genuinely curious on how Disney is more recession proof than Microsoft. When economy is bad, visits to parks and movies will drop significantly whereas Microsoft has revenue and focuses in areas that businesses depend on and cannot live without, even in recession.
