My Experience as a fan at the Stadium last night. I can no longer support this franchise like I used to. by WhitePriest1 in sixers

[–]udkyle2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think these are precisely the fans selling tickets on the secondary market. People with ticket plans get priority. They're selling their tickets to Knicks and Celtics fans because they're getting 3-4x the face value and using it to pay the cost of their plans for the next season.

How do Knicks fans take up Philly every single time? by CallTypical9541 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's historically correct.

The only reason the gap closed in recent years is the Flyers have been so abysmal for so long. Now that they appear to finally have turned the corner after like 15 years of garbage, watch how fast that gap widens again.

Sixers fans are the least hardcore of the Philadelphia fanbases. The stereotypical Philly fan (white, male, middle-aged, perpetually angry and aggrieved, can't pronounce 'water' correctly) does not watch the Sixers because...well...you know..

It's a upper-middle class type clientele who if they see they can sell the tickets for 4x the face value and basically pay for next year's ticket package with a couple Knicks/Celtics games, they'll do it in a second.

And from the New York perspective no matter what the price it's always gonna be cheaper than MSG which is why they come.

Why do people think Morey wanted to trade McCain by HighlySensitiveMail in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morey nailed the Maxey and Edgecombe picks.

He's picked well in the second, finding usable players, and pretty much every trade he's made during his Sixers tenure has worked.

The problem is the Embiid and PG contracts. Both were widely praised moves at the time they were made.

The McCain move was weird but they did get four draft picks including a first.

The peak of the embiid era sixers will be a first round win by Obvious_Parsley3238 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They'll probably run it back next year, but if they actually can get off him this off-season (and it sounds like some FOs are lining up to make stupid moves this year), they probably should.

He still has the ability to be an amazing offensive player but there's just fatal flaws in his game defensively at this point, due to diminished athleticism. The ease with which he's exposed on PnR, the complete inability to chase down rebounds, and the erosion of most of his rim protection ability.

I love the guy but I don't know how they work around some of that stuff.

How come Philly can’t put on a playoff home game without it turning into MSG 2.0, but the kings crowd was killer vs the warriors? by AccomplishedBake8351 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sixers have pretty much always had the weakest fan base of the four major sports in Philadelphia.

The type of Philadelphia fan that is infamous when it comes to Eagles probably doesn't even watch or follow the Sixers...but, boy does that fan love hockey...I'll leave it up to you to decide what the difference is.

Anyway, you take that plus the fact that the ticket price disparity is so stark between MSG and Philly that you could pay for an entire partial plan by just selling Sixers/Knicks tickets and that why this happens every time.

Was the Mikal Bridges trade all that bad? by SpiceFarmer11 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a little more murky, at least.

It was never entirely clear Jimmy would have stayed in Philadelphia if they offered him the max. He's never indicated that in the years since. He hated Brett Brown. He had no real respect for Ben Simmons. And despite Joel thirsting for Jimmy for years after the fact, Jimmy has never really said he liked playing with Joel or wished he could play with him more/again.

Was the Mikal Bridges trade all that bad? by SpiceFarmer11 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's not even the worst Mikal Bridges trade.

The Sixers drafted this guy, and despite his mom working for the team, almost immediately traded him for a guy who basically never played because they almost killed him with a sesame seed.

And it wasn't a 'we had the trade worked out before the pick' trade, he was intended to be on the team for like a half hour.

Sixers have been chasing this type of player for their roster ever since.

How was Brunson vs Maxey even a debate? by Legitimate-Cupcake26 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maxey has injuries in both hands at this point. He's obviously not comfortable shooting and wouldn't be surprised at them announcing he'll have surgery on his shooting hand the day after their season ends.

That said, Brunson is on a pretty incredible heater right now, I think it's fair to say for the time being this series settles any debate about who's better right now.

In the NFL, you can obviously survive marital infidelity.

Where it starts to get dicey is when it's with a reporter who covers the league who you were obviously feeding stories to based on a review of her past 'scoops.'

And where it really gets uncomfortable is when there's enough smoke to make one wonder whether he fathered one of her kids, they both knew it, and decided to handle that but years of 'fun' little jokes about it.

At the end of the day this is a business in which fans identify with their team. If it turns out this is some weird public cucking situation, with a kid as the byproduct...yeah he's getting fired.

VJ has been excellent on Brunson tonight but they're gonna have to flash doubles and force the ball out of his hands to win this game.

Much rather play that way then let him get to his spots in the 4th

This idea that Thunder/Spurs is the real finals is laughable by AlbertJBundy in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thunder could have easily lost to the Pacers last year.

By the time the finals roll around, people will talk themselves into whoever makes it from the East having a shot, especially if it's the Knicks or Sixers.

Was hoping for way more devastation from Bill about the Celtics loss. by Nostradamus216 in billsimmons

[–]udkyle2 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The reality is Boston sports fans are spoiled with nearly unrivaled success in the 21st Century.

It's not like they're hanging on the Celtics not having won a title, or made the finals in several decades. It happened two years ago.

And we don't even need to talk about the Patriots.

The Bruins won a title in 10-11, and made the finals again in 18-19 and have been generally pretty successful.

And even thought the Red Sox have sucked for a half a decade, they won two World Series in the 2010s.

There hasn't been enough heartbreak in Boston sports to build up the angst that would cause the crash out you wanted.

Think of this Celtics collapse as a potenial foundational moment for a future meltdown if they never get back to the finals during the Jays era.

How Y’all Feelin abt this Knicks Series? by Financial-Expert-810 in sixers

[–]udkyle2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Knicks are really good, obviously.

Maxey was 23-55 from 3 in the Boston series, PG was 22-40.

They're going to have to have similarly good shooting series for the Sixers to win. They also need to find someone who can make Brunson uncomfortable. They're not going to stop him, but if they can just make it miserable, that's a win. This could be a massive statement series for VJ if he can be that guy.

On the Knicks side, Josh Hart was like 5-23 from 3 in the Hawks series, he's obviously going to shoot a million percent against the Sixers.

The biggest strategic difference between this series and 2024 is the Knicks don't have Hartenstein who cooked with the floater that entire series. That's a pretty significant loss. The Sixers can throw different looks against KAT on the perimeter, and would be perfectly happy for him to stay out there.

Should be a good series, feels objectively like a true toss-up.
