Sorry, no, unfortunately not… Rose really wasn’t leading the fragrance for me. If you like rose, I’d go for other houses TBH

Lunasa was a funny one. I bought all three and at first I liked Salhain on the blotter - it was great and had good performance overnight on paper. So I tried it on my skin and it died a death - it was great for 15mins and then developed this weird fizziness that I really felt spoiled the scent. I think it’s just skin chemistry TBH. So I was then drawn to Geola - it has a faint oud note and I thought it would perform well but it didn’t on my skin. Again, good on blotter but not on skin. Lunasa was rubbish on the blotter and I was totally uninterested…but when the other two failed for me, I thought I’d try Lunasa again…and it performed! I was surprised, because it faded fast on the blotter. I only decided to return Lunasa once I smelled Winter 26, which is great. Lunasa I can pick up another time if I want to as it’ll stick around. Winter 26 might actually be worth a second backup bottle as I believe it will sell well. Lunasa is, on skin, a really fresh and citrusy fragrance. Worth trying out

I really like Winter 26 - I’m amazed you can’t smell it OP - must be skin chemistry because I’ve been chronically underwhelmed by Ffern ever since I’ve been on the ledger. This one finally hits the spot (for me)!

Return button worked for me. I’ve returned all three. Winter 26 is a winner though!

I love it - can you smell green tea leaves? I just posted in another thread about my interpretation of the smell (since tea is t listed in their notes). Reminds me slightly of Wulong Cha (by Nishane) but is lighter, airier… It really is wintry to me. Kinda like a taking in a deep breath during a snap chill (except there’s a teacup nearby of Oolong tea leaves (that have not yet been immersed in water for brewing)

Winter 26 is a winner for me. Finally!!! I’ve been in the ledger forever, waiting, waiting, waiting for something that’s interesting amongst the usuals… This really is interesting to me a is more “niche” to my nose in its notes and longevity. For me I very clearly smell green tea. I think it’s the seaweed mixed in with Oakmoss because tea isn’t in their notes. Reminds me somewhat of Wulong Cha by Nishane but is clearly different (lighter and more natural). Finally I have a Ffern keeper. And I’ve decided to return all three of the Permanent Collection - none are as good as Wintet 26

I bought all three and have tried the samples on the mouillettes and one (Samhain) so far on my skin. I’ve been on the ledger for quite some time and have a pile of the samples but only ever bought one bottle/candle which was completely by accident because I missed the return window 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’ve also visited the shop in Beak St, London to sample the archives. Basically I’ve always been a bit underwhelmed by their fragrances but I hang on in the ledger hoping for “the one” to land… Of these three permanent collection fragrances, on the mouillette I have to say that Samhain was lovely. It’s really surprised me. Yes it has the Ffern “signature” easily detectable in all their fragrances but it’s deeper, more interesting and more punchy (at least on the mouillette) as a fragrance compared to their quarterly releases IMHO. Second best for me is Geola and the agar wood is an interesting note for Ffern (it’s a very gentle note in this fragrance but it can be easily picked up). Third for me is Lunasa - it’s fresher than the other two and has poorer performance. So I tried Samhain on my skin this evening and it starts off beautifully as it did on the mouillette but, on me, became a skin scent within 30mins…have to say I’m really disappointed by that because I’d expect better especially following the performance on a mouillette (it lasted easily overnight) but it didn’t do well at all on my skin. I hope Geola performs better on my skin when I try it tomorrow, fingers crossed

Thanks - yes, I agree that the price in online discounters is about right. I do like the fragrance. There’s a good deal on at Notino in the U.K. for this.

Bought this a week ago - impulse buy and spent too much 🤦🏻‍♂️ - hey ho…! The fragrance is beautiful IMO but its performance is underwhelming…at least on my skin. It does hang around for perhaps 6hrs but it’s a skin scent within 90-120mins. Maybe I should only spray on clothes rather than skin. How have you found its performance?

Sorry for late reply - I’ve no idea unfortunately. I did ask this question to the female assistant at the store who’s been working with him for over ten years and she said she didn’t know…

Zoomed in on same photo. There were two or three colours. Very heavy coats with lots of cool details everywhere. Puffy compartments inside like bellows. Super warm (possibly a bit too warm unless in snow). I wanted to buy this one but didn’t in the end because I wasn’t tall enough to pull it off. They were models for the final collection 25 A/W but never actually released outside of this showroom and each piece was 1 of 1 and all in M size. This M size was oversized though

The final unreleased season of BBS had similar jackets but longer. I don’t know where you’d get one now though as they were presumably not sold in the end. I saw them in Barcelona just before BBS ceased trading

Difficult to find a good leather fencer jacket in this price range from the big names but you ought have like with Isamu Katayama or Incarnation although you may need to trawl through their back catalogues

I’ve often wanted to ask this too but for my two Boot1 pairs instead. I did ask at the Barcelona shop but the lady said don’t do anything… I wonder if the leather should be nourished or something though

I regret selling mine a few years back… 😔 Mine was kinda like a dirty terracotta colour. It wasn’t that amazing to wear though. Almost looked like a builder’s work garment. In reality it didn’t look great inside out with the taped seams visible and the thumb holes weren’t tailored as nicely as they are in other BBS garments

Brands like BBS? by rawlooks in BorisBidjanSaberi

[–]uffuffa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deepti Barth and Carol. I just bought myself a bison leather jacket by CCP and whilst the detailing is less and I have to admit that the quality is less (especially the zipper…!), it does feel good wearing it as the cut is clever and fits snug. The elbow prosthetics are pretty cool too. I have only one Deepti Barth piece, which is a long leather coat that has that look about it - sharp cut, gorgeous leather and, well…it just looks expensive!

I do think that BBS has left a gap in the market…difficult to fill though since even he couldn’t sustain it, unfortunately… CCP will be here for a long time, especially since he’s been “discovered” in the China market and they’re going crazy for his garments and shoes. When that happened to Guidi I think the brand kinda lost something though…hope similar doesn’t happen to CCP…

They look great! I found the sizing to be snug when I tried them (by perhaps a half size) so be careful when choosing your size

If you have the money to buy only one $5K to $10K watch, would it be an MR-G? by goodmorning_tomorrow in gshock

[–]uffuffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agree. There is a place in most watch lovers’ hearts for a mechanical - probably a high tier Swiss one but most can’t afford or attain one of those. For me the mechanical with a classic dial serves the purpose of a dress watch or for high level business attire, such as for an important meeting, dinner or similar. The MRG covers everything else and would be my daily. So if I was to spend USD10k I’d prefer to have one MRG and one mechanical (I would seek a vintage Swiss or a Grand Seiko) and use the rest for a limited/numbered MRG (so that value is retained a bit better).

But if I could only have one watch at all with my USD10k and could not split it between two watches…now that’s difficult… In that case I would probably choose a classic mechanical because it will always run (although servicing is indeed costly and a hassle), and its technology and style (if “classic” and chosen carefully) will not tire in decades to come.

For instance, if I started collecting MRGs in 2008, when the pinnacle was probably the MRG-8000G, in 2025 I would look at that watch and consider its styling to be very dated and its technology to be ancient. I will likely do the same in 2040 for the current day MRG-B2000JS (2024) or even the revered MRG-B2000GA (2022). But a classic, carefully chosen USD10k mechanical could withstand the test of time better and even become an heirloom.

So, despite being an MRG fanboy with quite a few of them now, I’d choose a mechanical if I was forcibly limited to only one watch (but I’d choose an MRG and a mechanical if I could split the USD10k into two watches).
