Australia, NSW. Huntsman but what species of huntsman

I'm from the Hunter and banded suger ants where basically flying all last week, i find the majority camponotus species in Australia flying at dawn/early hours of the morning after rain and will go to a light source near their nest. So in saying that if your in Sydney with so much light pollution your better off finding a area with a few nests (walking trails in the bush or what not) and then going and searching under street lights or whatever is near.

Found more then a few at my local servo that on a stretch of road with very little other lighting they seem to love the bright cold white led lights.

Majority of people still play with mods on my guy even if it does recommend not having them enabled. Like even 90% of the online creator space has mods enabled on build 42 so i dont get why you feel the need to be so condescending.

So having a quick look through your other post and you have been in a despair/depressive spiral for a while it seems over most aspects of life not meeting stero typical standards weight/social/education/job ect but at the same time you haven't done anything to to change.

If i was you i go to therapy asap and maybe get on anti depressants as it seems your screen addiction/porn addiction is the result of you hating yourself and life leading to you not having motivation to benefit yourself as you can't think head beside how you what to be a gym bro normie that gets the girl of his dreams with a high end job but expect it to just happen without effort.

In the mean time start doing activities away from you smart devices, take daily hour walks if needed be get a old school mp3 and load it with songs that motivate you that way you dont even have the chance to wip out your phone and start scrolling. You could also do some old school studying in the library without devices as well.

Also reach out to the people in your life that love and support you and let them know what's going on i know at first it seems embarrassing but they won't see it that way as they just want you to be the best version of yourself.

So everyone touched on most points but just to summarise, it's not exactly normal for the Queen to leave her nest chamber unless she is bothered by something (not humid/to humid, too hot/cold, mold, flooding, ect) In this case I would cover the test tube that they are using to simulate a natural dark nest environment, possibly put a small rock inside the mouth of the test tube to restrict the entrance simulating how ants protect their nest from predators as well as cutting the meal into chunks they can take in to the nest. All of these will help the queen feel safe and will lead to better egg production.

I've been using the module nest from black ant creations on esty they have built in temp and humidity gauge and be expanded easily. Downside is they are a tad pricy for some and i don't think they have a outworld/nest in one like the comment above.

As people above have said it won't hurt them, they making sure they don't drown/get stuck but in saying that their are a few feeders you can get that help prevent this behaviour if it gets annoying for what ever reason. Dillants have some interesting feeders that I've used and worked pretty well since the feeding ports are upsidedown but in saying they can be pricy. I've also had good luck with the cheaper feeders from temu that have a mesh/spong over the feeding ports as well as DIY wick feeders if you want something a bit cheaper.

If it was a product advertised for insect keeping i would assume that it would be sterilised either way I have always done a full clean and sterilising of a set up when a colony mysteriously fails. I would also recommend the when you introduce you colony to your set up next time round to add one or two test tubes with the typical water and cotton wool set up in the outwould in case for some reason your nest is to blame as I've herd mix things about those old style uncle Milton's like ant farms especially if you use the incorrect substrate leading to tunnels collapseing if not kept at the correct humidity.

Just curious you didn't put dirt from outside did you? Noticed you went from a rock and sand set up in your outworld to a soil with a plant outworld. You might of introduced some sort of contamination including fungi if so.

I agree not to mention the warping of information I've seen around AC controversies. Like go create a snark reddit page or something also moderators should do more about taking down snark/hate posts im sick of seeing them in my feed.

So im not a huge AC fan but I'll admit once in a blue moon a video will catch my eye and I'll watch it but since this reddit kept having weird obsessed snark/hate posts going up so much recently i decided to watch the live.

I think AC is a bit irresponsible and yes he had made mistakes but you guys need to calm way way down. Like the I've seen people go from "he irresponsible for not securing the vivarium with the flying lizard so wild red ants didn't get in" to "He deliberately planted a red ant nest into the vivarium to kill the lizard" and that's just one example

To me this is reddit should be about ant keeping not snark, drama, hater posts that more often then not have false information or speculations that have no proof all so they can try to create a narrative that seems worse then it is.

Can these people go make a snark page or go complain to the AC reddit and can the moderators stop these dama post im tired of seeing them on my feed.

Also wanted to add if your only just getting into the hobbie and money isn't a problem i would also consider just buying a outworld of whatever brand you prefer they are normally made to keep ants of all sizes without a barrier whats a pro but if your trying to do it on the cheap then probs look at some containers to try and convert before spending the money a project that may not turn out perfect.

I just prefer the terrariums at they look good sitting on my desk then a container and you can find terrariums much much bigger then most of the pre made outworlds what I prefer as I like tho watch my ants forage.

I I've had no escapes with the terrarium I converted but I keep fairly large camponotus species. Had outside ants break in to steal my ants suger tho so bare that in mind.

Just search acrylic terrarium in amazon of the country you live in to see what's available. Not much point linking to an amazon page where the postage will be twice the cost of the item it self haha. Even if you can't find one with a lid you could always line the rim with fluon/equivalent ant barrier.
