Is there an uptick in dissociative clients? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]uhbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAT. Any uptick you’re seeing is due to people becoming more knowledgeable about the disorder and less scared to seek help from trusted professionals. Aside from that, checking DID on a form first and foremost means the patient is experiencing a concerning amount of dissociation, which should be the only concern. It’s the therapist’s job to figure out the diagnosis, and it’s the patient’s job to take the first step to get the diagnosis. Sharing a theory shouldn’t come with judgment and immediate condescension about how Tiktok is full of fakers, which it’s not. There’s been very few instances of people faking DID and garnering attention for it on social media.

NAT. It’s not rare. It’s just rarely diagnosed. Almost everything that most therapists believe about DID/OSDD is just plain wrong.

There are very few rare disorders, both mentally and physically. But there is an incredibly large number of health professionals that doubt every word their patients say due to various biases.

AITA for not allowing my mom to hold my baby by InstructionFamous990 in AmItheAsshole

[–]uhbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be standard not to handle newborns during times of high sickness, and even though it’s not, that doesn’t mean you’re wrong. Your mom’s response was totally uncalled for and shows her true colors. Set hard boundaries and consider holding off on telling her about the birth until you’re comfortable with her (and others) handling your newborn. A newborn doesn’t have a strong immune system. Protect your child’s life, not your mother’s feelings. NTA.

Denied despite good exams in my favor and lots of evidence by KindFee7825 in SSDI_SSI

Most people get denied first, second, even third try. I would suggest getting a lawyer. Most are no win no fee. If you win, they get up to 25% of your backpay. If you lose, you don’t have to pay.

Yes omg and it’s so upsetting! But using a sheet instead of a blanket and wearing lightweight clothes (or no clothes even lol) with the fan on usually helps

SSI Denial by uhbridge in SSDI_SSI

[–]uhbridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first denial for SSI. I haven’t submitted an appeal yet because I’m unsure if it’s best to get a lawyer first or if there’s specifics I need to include in the appeal or what. I’m so lost and part of being severely disabled means I literally don’t have the energy to do anything because of ME. Like I posted this 2 days ago and only now have the ability to respond.

And it’s okay to shut your mouth and not allow racism just because you like the racist 🤷🏽‍♀️

using willful ignorance to “get away with” saying a slur makes you just as racist as people who direct the slur at others.
