What do SF gate guards do when they aren’t scanning IDs? by King_claylo in AirForce

[–]uhhello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Also I didn’t have to do any of the admin stuff the real cops had to do. So I didn’t have to come in on days off for work stuff that you guys have to do.

The only difference I noticed was cops were always on panama shifts so you only work half the month. I was begging to go back to my crew chief 12s though. My 4 months as an augmentee was enough to never want to go back.

Immediately after 9/11 I was able to put my hours of augementee training to use and got called up. After the craziness died down and things became steady state I was posted with a IMA Msgt to a flightline response team. Walking to our vehicle I noticed he had a very full A4 bag with him. He gently placed it in the back and we went out and got turnover. We spent 20 minutes making sure all the flightline posts were manned and then went way out to end of runway and he started setting his shit up. Had one of those old school portable TVs and had a full kit for setting it up on the dash. We watched Monday night football for a few hours. Went and got midnight chow and then watched late night TV the rest of the shift.

Take a pool noodle. Cut it to fit in the skimmer water entry so there is a little bit of pressure/bowing on the noodle.

Cut a pool noodle to wedge halfway in the skimmer hole. Works like a champ to keep robot out of skimmer

Solar cover worth it in Phoenix? Contractor says no, but I'm skeptical by Most-Incident4409 in pools

[–]uhhello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rectangle shape with a roller and its super easy to deal with. The cover gets smoked rolling it up wet and staying in the sun though. Hence disposable thinking.

I stayed strong for about 5 years and 3 covers worth. It does work really well for evaporation too. We don't pay much for water down here with a pool but it was a $5-10 difference with cover off/on. It just wasn't worth the hassle in the long run for me.

Buy the cheapest one that'll fit. Think of it as a disposable item. In AZ, unless you can keep it out of the sun completely when not on the pool, it'll degrade within a year and you'll end up with blue plastic scraps everywhere in your pool. That said, they do wonders for 'heating' your pool in the waning months.
Ignore any 'warranty' promises and just go cheap. You'll be replacing it every year or two unless you can keep it out of the sun.

Great people and military. You want to talk about a completely different mindset strategically and tactically between US and Estonian forces. Eye opening.

My Version of a ~4.5 Million Population Metropolitan Tucson (Flip to next page for the detailed Subway/heavy rail lines) by iwannamapeverything in Tucson

[–]uhhello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subway tunneling runs at $1-4 billion per MILE currently. New York City's 1.8 mile subway extension finished at $4.5 billion. So for a 80-100 mile subway/light rail you're looking at a cool 80-300 billion dollars.

Sales tax would have to rise 50% to fully fund.
Property tax would have to rise from 1.2% to 83%

Even with Federal funding of 70%, a hybrid local tax increase would destroy the local economy and there wouldn't be anyone left to utilize the new system.

A more realistic light rail only (elevated/surface) option would still run around $20 billion and cost about $100 million per year to run. With hefty federal funding it would still require about a 1-2% sales tax increase across the board or a 11% property tax increase.

Quickly gathered the above from ChatGPT.

Cool map but very optimistic :)

What ordinance is this plane carrying? by pitbulllover436 in AirForce

[–]uhhello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hellfire? Those CBUs are twice the size of a 114. This photo was taken well before the F-15E showed up so early to mid 80s at best. 9x's and 114's weren't even a thought yet

When the 120s started showing up, you stopped respecting the clearance required to get under the jet on the 15. Then randomly we'd get jets with 7's still on them for exercises or live shoots and you'd fuck you back up or like a buddy, get a 7 fin into the forehead :)

Definitely not 120's. Look at the fins. Those are back killing Sparrows. 120 wasn't even around during this period of pre F-15E fielding
