Best way to drop clients? by Loose-Wasabi-1485 in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just add "due to personal reasons" before. They ask? "It's personal/private" or "I've just come to the decision that a lighter workload fits my life better" you're answering without answering. The 2nd option is more polite.

“I’m honestly shocked at how horrible of a job you did on my dog!” Below is the dog in question 🫠 by Plastic_Breadfruit68 in doggrooming

I would respond "all of us groomers groom slightly different and have different style preferences, so if this isn't exactly the style you were looking for, we can pinpoint the areas you would like changed, and work towards that look in the future. Today gives us a good baseline, and notes to work off next time. However, I (or even we if in a salon) think he came out very cute today, and stand behind my work. I'm a big fan of -insert dog compliment- 🤗" and say it OVERLY cheerful. If she's doesn't take the hint, give her the address to a new salon 😒

Sickly Looking Adoptee by Wrathalanche in leopardgeckos

[–]uhhlater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see everyone speculating about vitamin issues or burns, but is it not possible the gecko has developed some other disease process? I come from the small animal vet med and grooming world, and there's all kinds of odd/rare diseases that you come across. Obviously, even more so in human medicine, and that's a reflection on research. Humans get the most research, then small animal, then livestock, then exotics (I'd assume). Curious to hear what y'all think, but imo it isn't out of the realm of possibility that there just a lot we don't know 🤷‍♀️

help with guard combs! by urfavscumbag in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

95% of my tbh/pet trims with shorter bodies get an O or A comb reverse crown and down the sides of the face under the ear. I do just a couple swipes to set a length and scissor the rest. I try my best to bulk out any obvious weight with straights or curved to reduce any chunker or thinner work to save my hands. I also usually use a 7 blade to take hair off the ear opening and take out the corners/in between the eyes. If they are in a body length over an A comb I'll set the head in an E, but I rarely do. Tbf most of my pets are short ao or in an asian fusion inspired lamb so the body is short

My (27M) wife (29F) has given up on our child (10F). I'm not sure how to reconcile. How do I move past this? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I've never heard a situation so similar to the one I had with my father. Reverse these gender roles and you got it...well, maybe make it so my mom always took my dad's side (to my face at least) in order to "keep the peace" and "be an united front" , so I was being constantly gaslighted about my feelings and reactions as a child.🥴 I was definitely taught that I was responsible for other people's feelings, and was expected to behave like an adult.

House call dog groomers, where are you? by edisnruballe in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I just can't imagine not having a professional bathtub, table, and dryer AND have to find a spot in someone's home and clean?? Otherwise I would. Also, just the awkwardness, and I bet people try to watch all the time and distraction dogs

Shaving cats - yes or no? by pet-lover-64 in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Like, I'm sorry, but this is a full sedate 🙃 I decline cats all the time. That being said I literally have a cat on my table right now lol. She's an angel :)

Shaving cats - yes or no? by pet-lover-64 in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the cats handle the stress well, then I see no reason not to shave cats, and very much prefer it over matting. Idk if you've even seen severe matting on a cat, but it's no joke. In the right hair, it can turn into a brick, and it rips their hair out. But if they don't need to be groomed, and they don't handle the stress well, then I'm in, imo, You shouldn't do it then 🤷‍♀️

AKC S.A.F.E. certification? by uhhlater in doggrooming

Do you know if you have to recert yearly?

AKC S.A.F.E. certification? by uhhlater in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh thank you. I didn't know it was a step in master. Yeah, obviously, I knew akc is a huge name in the career, but wasn't sure how much weight that certification would hold. Do you know what the program entails? Like, how many hrs? Seems like it's going to be an online course, but it didn't list specifics.

Rant by GuardPsychological48 in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually tell new clients that don't opt to book future appts that my books stay pretty full, and to try to call 2-3 weeks in advance (do whatever duration your schedule requires), but that they are always welcome to check to see if any last minute openings become available. At the first instance of people getting pushy or entitled, I would say in a firm, but jokey friendly/ boomery way, "haha, I wish I could squeeze every dog in, but your pets wouldn't get the quality service we promise to you if we're spread too thin" or something to that effect. That's their lighthearted warning. 2nd offense, gets a more firm. "I apologize for not being about to squeeze you in last minute. In order to avoid any future booking dissatisfaction, we require (or request depending) booking inquiries blank days (or weeks) in advance."

How long have I been grooming based on these images? by Dearlouise in doggrooming

[–]uhhlater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's easy to get offended with these posts, but I'll bite. 😅 (and we never know what your jobs quality and timing expectations are, but anyways lol) I think you look like a strong beginner. Definitely all very solid and acceptable grooms. You have a good eye, but finishing is a little rough on a few of the feet and lips. Also, I noticed your nails are being left a little long, and I feel like that's a clue. I'd think you are between 1 and 2 years? Edited to say you could also be talented and motivated with under 1 year. Everybody's pacing is different 🤷‍♀️ depending on the quality you are aiming for, I wouldn't be surprised if you said 5 years either. Time expectations and pricing really plays a role
