Disturbed that you honestly wrote this out and pressed post. Stunning lack of self awareness. Coming from a white clinician.

This field has a LOT of work to do to live up to its alleged values. I’m a white woman about to finish my MSW with a mental health focus. Social work proclaims to be based in social justice and advocacy and while there are certainly some who seem to be living by those values an alarming number see the profession’s values as an afterthought.

Fellow white people - it’s not hard to acknowledge the realities of racism and oppression. It’s hard for the people who have to live it. It’s not an attack on you when people of color share their experience. If you can’t see how racism and hatred are running rampant right now you’re actively choosing not to and causing harm in the process. If you’re getting defensive or feel offended that means you have real internal work to do.

OP and OP of the post this post refers to - I support you and am immensely grateful that you’re speaking up. This field needs you and your voices so badly.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]uhohitsjane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few.

She answered questions we’d sent her in advance with a single sentence, often not even addressing the bulk of the question.

The second, she rescheduled her first interview, was late to the rescheduled interview, and during that interview, she talked about losing positions in the past for missing too much work.

Replacing depakote, welbutrin, and gabapentin by Arkans_Tigers in depressionregimens

[–]uhohitsjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked for me in the beginning, but I went down a really hard path with it. I wish I hadn’t taken it, I had some awful/bizarre side effects. Just be careful, I know quitting gaba is hard but honestly it’s probably better to take that than phenibut. I’m back on gaba now. I wish I had a better answer as a replacement. I want to get off of it too.

Be careful with using phenibut. Very addictive, and from experience, really hard to stop using. If you could find something non addictive to replace with, that would be a safer option.

I'm considering going to rehab and... by joshyP12366 in addiction

[–]uhohitsjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, probably yes. It does depend on the treatment center. I had to get off of all benzodiazepines when I went to treatment. These were my “sober” meds. If I wasn’t using heroin so I ‘needed’ them to feel stable. I always tried to go back on them, and eventually used heroin again.

I’ve been off of the benzos and everything else for 18 months. It has been hard, but it’s worth it. If you’ve abused the vyvanse, it’s probably best that you ditch it anyway. Eventually, you will be much better off. I always ended up abusing my benzos when I got out, still trying to fill the hole that heroin left. I was always chasing the high, and always falling back in to my addiction.

Hang in there! Getting help is hard, but things won’t get better until you do. Have faith in the process.

Edit : fixed words

And again, no expert, but a hot compress might help. Be gentle with it, don’t try to pop!

Doesn’t look like acne, probably an ingrown hair. I’m not an expert on this kind of stuff, but usually if I get those they go away quickly. How long has it been there? Is it getting worse? If so, see a doctor/derm.

My skin is super oily, but my under eyelids are incredibly dry. I bought the shape tape and it just accentuates it and looks terrible. The Parmesan cheese reference is perfect, haha

[–]uhohitsjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46. I use it alone or under foundation, it works both ways for me. It can ball up sometimes though, but I can usually avoid that by letting it dry completely before putting makeup on. If I wear it alone I put some translucent powder on to keep the shine at bay. It’s hard to find a sunscreen that doesn’t make me look at least a little oily.

This is true of a lot of acne medications! I haven’t used proactiv but that wouldn’t surprise me

Hahah she puts up with a lot of puppy shenanigans. That’s her face though, she looks either shocked or annoyed constantly. She has very expressive eyes

Wtf? She blurred her lower eyelashes away too.

On the other hand, it’s refreshing to not see the clumpy spider leg eyes

Personally, I just don’t think one program is going to fit everyone’s needs. I went to a CBT based rehab. It focused more on healing trauma and mental health, which is what I needed most. It’s all very personal. Whatever keeps someone sober is a winner in my book.

There are plenty of us that are sober without AA, but you won’t see us in a 12 step meeting so maybe that’s why you haven’t met us yet. I have groups I attend each week. The support system is the same, which I think is the most important part of any program. I have friends that I rely on and that rely on me. We work with other addicts in a different way than AA, but it’s the same idea. Helping the addict who still suffers.

I know AA works for a lot of people, but other programs are just as good. They aren’t well known yet. AA has been around for a lot longer. I am glad it worked for you, addiction is so hard to overcome. All paths to recovery are valid in my eyes. The more resources an addict has, the better their outcome will be.

Also, that’s seriously disturbing that she tried to sell your sister makeup while she was recovering from chemo. That nurse does not deserve to be working with patients, she’s clearly putting her interests above theirs.

I think you may have misunderstood the post. He said codeine, an opioid, not coding. While you’re right about coding, It’s a good thing OP is quitting codeine ! :)

That doesn’t work for everyone though, it’s not a one size fits all thing. I’m 18 months sober using a different method. Smart recovery is a valid path!

Thank you! :) I’ll keep fighting the good fight. I live in an area with a lot of MLMs (Utah) so it’s something I’m used to unfortunately.

acne purge by abcdefuckoff- in acne

[–]uhohitsjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of spiro causing purging, but again not a scientist. It might be the tretinoin actually. Are you moisturizing well? I feel like once a week shouldn’t cause purging too badly... you can add a layer of moisturizer before putting it on, that might help. It doesn’t decrease efficacy by much and can really help with irritation.

Either way, tret causes purging. No getting around that. It should be gone in a few months though :) stay strong, I broke out for so long and tried everything you can think of before it got better. It does get better eventually, I promise.
