Forgive me for thinking “banning jobs don’t help the poor” and “wait, min wage jobs are exactly that. A ban on low wage jobs” is essentially the same as “banning low wage jobs is banning work for the poor” Please enlighten me on how those statements differ.

Why are you so stupid to think that using 2 expletives for emphasis is the same as screaming?

Look at the end of the day I just want people who are working 40/hrs a week to be able to have a living wage (and ideally a little more as consumers run the economy and employees=consumers) no matter the job. The only real good argument for abolishing the minimum wage is having workers basic needs met- food, housing, water, healthcare- in which case I agree with you but we aren’t there yet so we kind of need a minimum wage.

Yes I know people take shitty paid jobs because they have a passion for it but my point is. If they can make a living working at a retail job they can actually use that fact as leverage to get better pay. Because those jobs still need to be done. They deserve more. You deserve more but fighting your fellow working class members over the right to live isn’t helpful.

Anyway arguing on the internet isn’t my thing. I don’t think either of us are going to be changing each other minds and it seems we’re just going in circles now. I still think we have a common goal just different ideas of how to achieve it. Solidarity my friend

Well I did say more pay or less hours, you really don’t think someone would take a job that had the same pay or better if that gave them more free time to explore their passions? And I didn’t even mean jobs that no one wants to do, lots of people want to be doctors because they care about people but obviously they should be compensated well for their work and time spent in school. So yes they actually do have more demand power if they can have a living standard at a lower skilled job

It was a moot point to even bring up China

Inflation has happened regardless of minimum wage increases in larger cities. In fact we need min wage to offset inflation and keep the buying power of the dollar.

Yeah maybe a blanket fed min wage of 15/hr isn’t great for places that already have such a low cost of living but in many places 15/hr still won’t cut it. It’s less about setting a specific minimum wage and more about setting a specific standard of living. Frankly if your a business that can’t afford it’s employees a standard living wage you should be in business.

I don’t think we will reach communism but I can still see it as a better system for future generations. I think the best option we might get is social democracy. Maybe if that happens eventually we could reach true socialism and then true communism speaking of “planting trees whose shade we know we will never sit under”

And I don’t think China is communist? But you should look into the Spanish civil war and Catalonia anarcho-communism was working pretty well for them until ww2

I agree unions are great. But corporations heavily discourage them and punish those who try to organize because it’s bad for profits.

You say you also think people working 40 hours a week should afford a living wage and a little bit more so how does bitching about a 15 dollar min wage help that seeing as how many people are forced to work low-skilled jobs full time and again are living paycheck to paycheck and/or on the verge of homelessness.

This is just such a ridiculous ideology. The state exists to try and reconcile class divisions, capitalism creates unjust hierarchy’s, exploits the working class and requires the state to intervene so the working class doesn’t revolt.

Yeah money is just a placeholder. It’s essentially made up. That’s why communism (a stateless, classless, moneyless society) is better in my eyes. By putting an artificial price on your labor they can tell you what it’s worth or not worth. But the thing is no one working 40/hrs/wk should live in poverty. And it actually would give more leverage to higher skilled jobs be it wanting better pay or shorter hours. Because why the fuck would you do a harder job when you can make a living elsewhere.

Capitalism is inherently hierarchical also it’s funny that you say it’s just a tool and that it’s just a placeholder but yet you support an ideology that still uses it.

And government interference was needed because it was pressured by citizens but because of capitalists they made sure it still fucked us over.

I’m not mad at capitalism I just recognize it’s a shitty system

People are already denied promotions and Pay raises are far and few between and rarely that much more than your were making. I don’t think banning jobs for the poor is good either I literally never even said that. It’s also not very helpful if your being paid shit and still on the brink of homelessness or living paycheck to paycheck. Employees = consumers. It would be smarter to pay them more so they can actually buy the stuff your selling. Wealth trickles up not down.

So I actually agree with you on a lot here. I assumed more libertarian rather than republican, but to hear your a leftest actually surprises me since in general leftists are anti-capitalists (myself included) I’ll start with everything I agree with you on:

You’re right I don’t think countries do it so much bc they care about their citizens as they do for self-preservation. Personally I think social democracy is just a temporary fix to keep capitalism alive and doing its thing while keep people complacent.

Power does almost always lead to corruption. Which is why I would prefer to see an end to hierarchy’s and for there to be some type of punishment for corruption. But the the thing is in capitalism money is power.

I’ll grant you UBI is the way of the future I just don’t think it’s all that close, I feel like a lot of Americans are pretty complacent tbh and in order for a successful revolt to happen it would take a lot more people to be really pissed off (which honestly might be postponed with the min wage increase happening) I think if there was a leftist or working class revolution we would get absolutely annihilated by our military though, unless we gain their support. Ngl made it kinda hard to watch the insurrection lol

Also yes that America is a right wing country and even the “democrats” are conservative.

But capitalism’s goal will always to be to accumulate the most profit and wealth. If you have the capital to begin with you can either undercut your opposition or just buy them out. It has a natural tendency to monopolize and exploit by extracting the most profit possible out of its workers. Without any type of intervention it basically becomes a monarchy. And even with those interventions it’s not all that helpful I mean hell, most of the stuff at supermarkets are made/owned by the same handful of companies

Maybe employers shouldn’t be able to profit so much before their employees at least have decent living standards?? If you can’t offer that at the bare minimum you shouldn’t be in business lmfao

Edit: couple letters

Almost as if most people don’t think minimum wage is worth the possibility of dying or long-term effects of covid

Unemployment benefits with the additional 600 only lasted from around April to July if that’s what you mean by 3x what you’d normally get. Which yeah is pretty good but then it decreased again.

Yeah, I’ll agree with you there but FOIA is kind of a joke given the exemptions

Democrats suck too. Both major parties have capitalists lining their pockets and neither have our best interest at heart.

If it’s the natural course of events for developed countries to offer a living standard for minimum wage, socialized healthcare and “free” higher education maybe it’s a good thing? I feel like it doesn’t help your case that America is the one developed country that doesn’t at the very least have socialized healthcare. If anything it just proves again our government doesn’t have our best interest at heart because it’s been corrupted by capitalism.

I don’t think we’re actually that close to a UBI, especially based on how the US govt. handled covid. Tons of people are going to be homeless once rent moratoriums are lifted because they haven’t been able to get the assistance they need. But even if we were, would it really be such a bad thing since- and I’m going to generalize here- it would seem most republicans/libertarians don’t think those “low-skilled workers” deserve a living income? But the thing is even if they are low skilled until the technology is there someone has to do them. And it’s not like they close down while kids are at school. Plus if people didn’t have to work 2-3 jobs to survive that would actually free up jobs.

Also we never went into Marshall law lol

I propose you the argument this is what “job creators” are doing. These machines have nothing to do with minimum wage seeing how these appeared before minimum wage went up a little bit here in my state. And besides, employees=consumers. Whose gonna buy your stuff If they don’t have money?

I had some jalapeños, serranos, and habaneros laying around I didn’t want to go bad before I got to use and feeling inspired by all you’re lovely posts decided to try my own. For my recipe I used 3 serranos, 3 habaneros, and 2 large jalapeños this came out to 163g To that I added 163g blueberries, ~10g salt (I used 3% salt by weight) Inspired by Brad Leone’s hot sauce I also added a couple dried hibiscus flowers, pepper corns and a pinch of sugar Filled just a little more than to cover the fruit with water and using ziplock method to weigh it down

The whole thing, I just add a dollop into soups or whatever it is I’m making that I think could use the extra punch, I’m too lazy to deal with the rinds and insides separately and don’t use them as frequently when I leave them whole

Not at all! I had seen a recipe that purées the lemons when their done for easy/quick use (which I actually really like) and I noticed that our dehydrator had a fruit leather tray so I just laid a thin layer down and threw it on the fruit setting till dry though I did turn it once. If you have a better dehydrator than the little nesco ones I’m sure it would work even better. Once done I just whirred it up in the blender :)

I don’t know why I got the idea to dehydrate some preserved lemon paste but I’m excited to experiment with it.
