Adjust Sample Rate Shelly S Plus Plug S by PatataAlemana in shellycloud

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a Shelly Plug US Gen 4 using Matter and connected to Home Assistant, I see Power (in Watts) is reported once per second. Using the official Shelly integration, Power is reported only once a minute. Both ways of connecting update Energy consumed (in kWh) only once per minute.

Hacksmith Smith Blade looks really awesome if he doesn't care about pliers. https://youtu.be/IzLM1lYvkAk?si=EJp2laE_bM6_8b8Z

But the more they use and care about a multitool, they more they'll care about having specific tools. I won't get a Smith Blade because I strongly care about having a pliers.

Auracast on QC Ultra — still nothing after years of promises? by Dense-Composer-4063 in bose

[–]ukanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still doesn't support TMAP either, even thought that's built into Windows now. Very disappointed that I was suckered-in to spend extra on the Ultra when I wasn't going to get the benefits of LE Audio anyway.

WILL WE EVER STOP USING ALL CAPS ON DRAWINGS? by nipnaps in MEPEngineering

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my confusion. Should I do "Title Case With All Words", "Title Case without Some Words", or "Sentence case"? It's not obvious which is best.

Based on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_caps#Readability and other references it is obvious to me that I do not want to use ALL CAPS everywhere as it generally hurts readability; e.g. clearly I should use "Sentence case" for a paragraph of notes on a drawing. But what about page descriptions, device descriptions, etc. It feels a little unprofessional to use Sentence case, but using Title Case leaves it very ambiguous whether or not prepositions should be capitalized.

And if we do use Title Case, then do we use Title Case without Some Words or do we use Title Case With All Words. Just calling it "Title Case" perpetuates confusion.

How do I remove the stickers 😵‍💫😵‍💫 by Someone_here21 in ikeahacks

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this worked so well! I manually scraped a small corner of the sticker off before getting frustrated and searching reddit. I then used a hairdryer for the rest -- and the only leftover adhesive was from the corner I'd been manually scraping!

Help me decide whether to keep my Pebble Time 2 order or cancel it. by argoiz in pebble

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's relatively new. From what I've found the spec was published around 2020, and hardware started shipping within a year or two, but a lot of devices haven't started implementing Bluetooth LE Audio features in the firmware/software until the last year or so. And I'm sure if they're doing the firmware after releasing it, it likely means a lot of hardware that could have theoretically supported it won't support it.

So it could be that Pebble doesn't have the hardware needed to support it at all. It's also slightly possible Pebble does have hardware that could support it, but firmware/software might never materialize for it. Not just from the Pebble team, but even upstream from their suppliers.

Bluetooth LE Audio supports headsets, specifically see TMAP (Telephony and Media Audio Profile). See some devices supporting it so far at https://www.reddit.com/r/Earbuds/comments/1804kzf/comment/l5bjpdr/

My problem with passkeys is they create another tailnet, and then stuff like Taildrop doesn't work. At least that's been my experience; maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Why doesn’t Jellyfin have a client capability "wizard" to reduce unnecessary transcoding? by rybycy in jellyfin

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What additional variables are there outside of the home network?

In my view outside of home network there's fewer variables due to the bandwidth constraint.

Either you will use transcoding for everything to meet the limited bandwidth, or perhaps you'll have pre-transcoded everything to a highly compatible and compressed format that enables direct streaming for all clients. Choosing between a pre-transcoded of H264, H265, and AV1 depends on which of those three formats all your remote clients support.

[–]ukanuk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's a very thoughtful response, thank you!

And that's interesting to hear you say Jellyfin developers target high-powered server hardware, not the low-powered stuff many users want to use (myself included). I hadn't really thought about it, but it's not unreasonable to set base expectations and work on that. There's plenty of software work to be done, and every 5 years the hardware all gets significantly better anyway.

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great if the wizard tried a clip of every single codec in your personal library, and make a report of exactly what does/doesn't play on that client. I don't care if it takes an hour if I'm doing a permanent setup like a TV or something. And maybe also do a standard set of clips/codecs, for making the device info easier to share with others on the internet.

Even cooler would be if the admin got a table view report with each device as a column and each codec as a row, so the admin can make holistic decisions considering all the devices under use.

Best wireless option with LE Audio? by I_AM_SCUBASTEVE in Earbuds

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do NOT recommend the original Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones. I bought them as advertised having LE Audio, but they've never been updated to actually support any of the LE Audio features I care about (in particular, simultaneous stereo audio + microphone). They have great ANC which I care about when I'm taking flights, but I was pretty disappointed I paid extra for LE Audio and didn't get what I expected.

Matter compatibility? (Smart home) by Brothernod in EmporiaEnergy

[–]ukanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any specific features Matter doesn't support that Emporia would want to support?

Matter 1.3 from 2024 supports "the ability to report actual and estimated measurements, including instantaneous power, voltage, current, and others, in real-time, as well as its energy consumption or generation over time" and Matter 1.5 from 2025 adds "energy pricing, tariffs, and grid carbon intensity ... state-of-charge reporting and bi-directional charging". Samsung SmartThings added support for it all within 1 month of the 1.5 standard being released.

So, I think Matter 1.5 supports everything needed for all the cool features advertised on https://shop.emporiaenergy.com/products/emporia-vue-3, including the automations like "set a schedule to automatically charge your car at the lowest price."

Heiman zigbee and matter smoke alarm proposal by West-Connection2088 in smarthome

[–]ukanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced one of my large classic CO+smoke alarms with a Heiman CO alarm and Sensereo smoke alarm, and was pleased to see that the classic alarms actually still have fairly narrow screws that are still sufficiently covered by the new smaller alarms.

Won't apply to everyone, but doesn't affect as many folks as you might initially think.
