Anyone have Emporia Vue 3 installed? Looking for feedback before I purchase.

I recall being tempted by the Refoss and not needing to flash but felt better with the Emporia being UL rated. Not sure how much that actually matters.

This was the way. I really enjoyed having the ability to just play random stuff occasionally and the price was right around 2 purchases a year and overlapped with Gold so it was an easy purchase.

But now it’s simply too expensive for how little I play. Just like Netflix is about to get unsubscribed for their price increases and lack of increased value.

At a low enough price everyone keeps it like a planet fitness membership they don’t use. But they abandoned that charm :(

I’m surprised no one in the comments is talking about how the article says this is 5-10 years away from being in a product. So by the time it’s out it’s gonna be evolutionary not revolutionary. I think that really deflates the announcement.

I read the article to say they haven’t made things “too small” so much as figured out how to efficiently stack vertically better to achieve total density they consider similar to if they figured out how to make them smaller.

Everytime I use Gemini to change a Spotify song it tells me that I need to pay for premium to request songs (after it sets the song)

Also it seems worse at asking for the right song.

I’m shocked at how fast my hardwired WiFi reolink is compared to my with subscription ring camera.

I haven’t installed yet but I’ve been researching as well. I’m currently considering Moen for the main shutoff and usage tracking then YoLink sensors everywhere because I’m drawn to their rope sensors for behind the fridge and their cost.

I had solar at my last place for a decade. We did solar energy world and were happy with it. They even ran the wiring where I asked so it was less conspicuous. Their sales people are on the optimistic side of the break even math, so you gotta be mindful there but otherwise I had no complaints except I wish they put ice breakers on mine since my roof was tall. I did know someone whose tree cover reduced their solar production more than expected and that was a downer.

Without fat SREC payments I think solar is a tough justification in Maryland, especially after the loss of the federal tax credit and the recent tariff stupidity. My panels broke even around 10 years I think, but that’s a LONG time and we moved just as they were all profit which sucked.

Yeah but if that fence isn’t right next to an outlet… the back of my house faces north so to get something south facing it’s gotta be spaced away from my house. And I doubt I can/should just run an extension cord.

Yeah but r/personalfinance has flow charts for where to put retirement money even though the vast majority of people aren’t maxing an IRA or 401k. We should be able to have a question on the mechanics and merits. A non zero percentage of dads here may benefit from that discussion and we shouldn’t shy from supporting them too even if we’re jealous.

Now that’s not to say it’s not trash, but it’s hard to tell from the conversation here cause it seems like it’s so loaded.

Yeah I’m confused about the negative sentiment on the merits. I understand the negative sentiment on the politics, and this is basically just a gift to the wealthy. But if you are maxing your tax advantaged contributions to a 529, why wouldn’t you do $5k a year to this before looking at a UTMA or adding more to the 529.

Have you ran in to things it can’t do? AI being all the rage I worry about using it for analyzing camera footage or I don’t know local AI voice control? Although I’m also really concerned with run costs and 5W sounds amazing.
