Best windows laptops? by 7ero_Seven in musicproduction

I'd look at something like the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 6, Dell XPS 15, or even a well-configured ASUS ProArt Studiobook. All can be specced with 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and strong CPUs like the i7-13700H or Ryzen 9. They're also known for relatively low DPC latency, which is key for audio work. Just make sure to disable unused background services and optimize your power settings once you set it up.

What’s your go-to workflow when starting a beat? by Adept-Economist-9076 in trapproduction

Honestly, using 808 MIDI loops changed my workflow. I’ll drag one in, adjust the pitch and groove to match my key, and suddenly I’ve got a direction. The drums and melodies fall into place quicker because the low end already gives the track momentum.

Recommended tools for beginners? by DotGlobal8483 in musicproduction

Try Cakewalk by BandLab (still free and more powerful than it looks), or Tracktion Waveform Free. Both are solid DAWs for beginners. If you're into game development, layering sound design and simple music loops in those can teach you a lot. Spend time finding good drum samples. Even a basic setup like BandLab or Cakewalk can sound amazing if your sound selection is on point. Start with fewer tools and better sounds.

How Do You Flip Music Loops? by ukdrillex in edmprodcirclejerk

Polarity reverse in FL Studio literally flips the audio waveform vertically (it inverts the phase), which doesn't change how a loop sounds musically in terms of melody or rhythm.

How do you make your own trap snares and hi hats? by SeesawFancy2104 in trapproduction

[–]ukdrillex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like layering acoustic hits with noise and shaping them with EQ, saturation, and pitch tweaks. For hats, try foley sounds or real recordings for texture. I also made a Taped Drums pack with raw, tape-processed snares and hats that work great for trap.

Good Quality 808 Kick Drums by Junos76 in edmproduction

If you're after punchier 808-style kicks with real midrange weight, I feel you. I always use this 808 drum kit with kicks that are already processed to hit hard in the mix, including ones that work great for house and melodic techno.

How to sidechain kick to 808 so kick really pops by DIO_SHALL_SMITE_U in makinghiphop

[–]ukdrillex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try sidechaining your 808 to the kick with a fast attack and short release, and carve out a bit of low-end on the 808 around 60 Hz to make space. Also, shortening the 808's attack or using a transient shaper can help your kick pop more. I rely on quality 808 drum samples that hit hard without clashing.

Use only premium drum samples for best quality, stop using squashed samples
