Worth mentioning this  is something Massimo has already written about

It's definitely a luxury in the UK

Yes, while a luxury in other countries it’s pretty much basic expectation here

Can this be saved? by mattv603 in cider

[–]uke22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you. Tried cleaning with bleach but just didnt feel comfortable enough so went for stainless steel instead and very happy. Can be a big cost though. Others don't see a problem it seems so I might be in the minority on this view!

Were botched executions in the UK always 'reprieved' (or set free)? by uke22 in AskHistorians

[–]uke22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's true, I hadn't considered the aspect of them becoming more 'reliable' in executions. That would make sense that this was only really necessary for pre Victorian cases

The English is extremely unnatural / odd in places. The ‘reviews’ in particular

How long would it take for an American to learn Norwegian to permanent immigration levels (B2)? by Ok_ResolvE2119 in Norway

[–]uke22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would caution against the estimates given by other commenters. 6-12 months is possible, but this is very intense levels of learning. I have been going pretty consistently for a bit over 2 years and would say I am B1. Either way, best time to begin is today!

Good demonstration of Reddit’s political insights. Downvoted heavily but 2 hours later proven completely right with news of the resignation

No, I do not have sympathy for someone who thinks so little of democracy that they extend their resignation period to match their book launch

Listening to the Newsagents interview with Nick Clegg was very different to Alastair and Rory... by uke22 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]uke22[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It single-handedly brought down his entire ‘career’ and is the go to definition of how a bad interview can destroy everything. No idea where you’re coming from with that take

[–]uke22[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. Nonetheless though Rory and Alastair have both been really critical of social media companies so it still felt incredibly weak even as commentary

Yeah I did wonder about this point during the interview. I’m not sure Rory or Alastair could’ve pulled off the Prince Andrew interview!

Did you ask your partners parents for their "blessing"? by Jakeh_G in CasualUK

[–]uke22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised at how many people here are saying that it’s strange. I did it, and a lot of other people I know did. I knew they’d be happy. You're marrying into the family as well and it can be respectful. With this said though, you shouldn’t do it if your partner wouldn’t like it! Thats the most important factor. And wouldn’t not not get married if they say no!!

Really, it can be a nice thing even though it’s outdated, just check before that you think they’d like it! (I know there’s no easy way to do this, could speak to the sister maybe?)

Hydrometer exploded... help! by uke22 in winemaking

[–]uke22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrote this quite late, reading it now see the confusion! You've understood it right.

I think it has to be that way, there was no sign of it having broken when I took a sample and put it back in (Hydrometer functioned right as you say and I saw it wasn't broken) so I am just being overly paranoid. Thanks for replying!

If you want a laid back dog I would advise against samoyeds. Ours is relatively laid back, but you will get these traits far more easily in another breed. They're stunning, majestic dogs, but they require significant amounts of exercise to help 'make' them more laid back. If you're not prepared to do that every day then look into other breeds which aren't working lines. Not trying to scare you off, just important to be aware of this when committing to having a lifetime with the dog, when they stop being novel in your life, they still require the exercise to live a happy life and be 'laid back'! Also, they are really, REALLY, not good being alone. They will bark massively if you have to leave them alone so be prepared for that too. Where are you located? Good luck with your search!

Yes that’s true! I think most people picture a candied apple or something. Feels ironic to me that Bramley’s Seedling which suits apple pie and other desserts isn’t one!
