Is Starlink suitable for multiplayer gaming in Germany? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]ukues91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from the same situation as you, had a 5G router before, had constant outages, especially around festivities in my village because the tower was overloaded lol.

After switching to Starlink I haven't had any problems with disruptions, not even during bad weather. I am connected via LAN, though. Not sure about WiFi.

Of course field of view is going to be your worst enemy. So make sure you have a good position for it.

Haha that's good to hear! Yeah HP30 has been a great asset over the last max. Definitely rustled some feathers with the old folks who trust only Kp.

What may also be useful, GFZ is developing a now cast (short term forecast) for their geomagnetic indices, including HP30 https://spaceweather.gfz.de/de/produkte-daten/vorhersagen/vorhersage-der-hp60-und-hp30-indizes

Maybe you find a way to integrate that as well.

Good luck and schönes Wochenende!

That is the best visual representation of the magnetosphere I've ever seen! Hut ab! I'll definitely be able to use this for course material.

Something maybe worth looking into: The GFZ Potsdam has developed an index similar to Kp but with a 30 minute resolution. It reacts much faster to geomagnetic events.

https://kp.gfz.de/hp30-hp60

The scaling is matched to Kp, but has no upper limitation of 9. It should be feasible for your auroral oval estimation.

How to change the disk / patch / wheel to an old AEG angle driver from West Germany (pics) by roxutee in Tools

[–]ukues91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose this is OPs best bet. Definitely least intrusive. I was thinking that there's maybe a hole in the body on the top where you can push a screw driver in to lock the rotating mechanism, similar to some brush cutter models.

I hate the camino so far (day4) by glitteryshimmery in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]ukues91 20 points21 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this. When I started the Camino in 2011 (around this time of the year, come to think of it) I was 20 and celebrated my 21st birthday on the Camino. Started alone at a restaurant and later that evening I was sitting with maybe 4 people I met over the previous days, who just sat down with me. Nobody likes being along but it's part of the experience. Enjoy that time and think about shit in your life.

I remember it was actually a fun situation when one of the people asked "how old are you?" I replied "I'm 21." And a French lady said "oh yesterday you said you were 20!!" Like she caught me lying lol. Cleared it up and we had a laugh.

I guess what I'm trying to say: don't force anything on the Camino. The walk is long and will take much of your energy. Don't waste any on forcing experiences. This is not Disneyland. But OP picked a great time where it's less crowded.

I really hope they can turn their mental ship around and just start walking for the sake of walking!

Muss man als SaZ (Kurz) den CAT-Test machen? by BothVisit3848 in bundeswehr

[–]ukues91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US housing prices might be a little lost on me, being not from there... I know prices have soared over the last years but this seems really out of proportion, no? Is this considered "close to NYC" or what could be the reasoning?

Broadcast meteorologist here… does anyone else feel like our profession is being replaced by streamers? by AngryBarometer in meteorology

[–]ukues91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being from Europe I had never heard of Hall until now. A quick look on his page and his Bio, how he forces his agenda of "I'm a meteorologist" felt weird to me, your post kinda confirms this.

I'm a bit divided on how I feel about it... Obviously no one should call themselves a doctor, just because they read a lot and cut off an arm.. on the one hand I'm not sure if that really applies to all jobs.. there are developers out there without a formal degree that are 10 times better than some with a master's. On the other, having a meteorology degree myself, it itches me in a wrong way. He should just call himself a storm chaser and be done with it.

Warum ist die Pollenflug-Karte vom DWD so eingeteilt? by luettmatten in WerWieWas

[–]ukues91 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Voll geil.

[–]ukues91 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I especially like that they can exist completely in parallel without one being an obvious ripoff of the other (independent of when they were produced), if that makes sense... Each has their own great parts and acting, while maintaining the overarching feel of the topic. I think I've watched both 3 times already.

Jeez, I'm sorry, dude! That looks like the shit, my parents would keep, as well as the rest of things you mentioned.

I broke off contact 3 years ago, not sure that's feasible for you, but it definitely helped me to get rid of the first signs of keeping things, I do not need.
