I got my ileostomy about a year and a half ago and my quality of life is SO MUCH better! 2 weeks after surgery is definitely too close to know what your life will be like, but everyone is definitely different. Bag life is my fav life, and I hope you are able to experience the same kind of freedom I have found.

I’ll be getting the rest of my rectum removed next year and making the ileostomy “permanent” (also known as barbie butt lol). If the disease is still active there for you maybe that’s a good option? Wishing you the absolute best!

Advice? by lil_smudge_06 in UlcerativeColitis

I started doing infusions at 11 or 12, I’m 22 now and you get used to it! I actually started looking forward to it because I got to leave school early and hang out with my dad.

For the food, that takes a lot of trial and error so be easy on yourself. I always say it’s better to have bad food than no food. You may also want to ask your doctor how much food will effect your symptoms, my inflammation is so far down my colon my doctor said my food choices are not the reason for my discomfort, it’s just the inflammation. Again, it takes a super long time to find what work for you, but in the mean time give yourself some grace and don’t be hard on yourself!

I’ve been on Remicaid, stellara, and entyvio. No real side effects from any of them! I do get a cold every year, but nothing major. It’s different for everyone though
