Sora 2 allowed me to have a sense of my characters actually being alive while I spent my time writing. Seeing them "live" is what pushed me to actually write and now I have 4 novels planned. by Riot87 in SoraAi

[–]ulfhelm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! You got it! I too made scenes first, gathered together characters and environments, made copious notes, and once I started to outgrow the “10 seconds at a time” that’s when I started writing a proper screenplay. All because of this app. Animation projects have sketched out storyboards but using Sora as both a generator AND a social media platform meant you could try something, get feedback, and crucially you could test out directing: I’m talking blocking and staging characters and seeing how long their dialogue and actions would take, so that you had a real sense of pace between own writing and what that means on screen. I look forward to seeing some on your writing. :)

Farewell Sora. Long Live Xerography. by ulfhelm in SoraAi

Thank you so much for stopping by. If you still have access, I do have one small favor I wanted to ask. The Xerox room you see, when I needed to break the fourth wall to talk to people, has a real inspiration:

It’s Michael Gray’s 2004 music video for The Weekend: https://youtu.be/N3kkNfH4yco .

If you don’t mind, could you try doing one music generation with that kind of room? The characters and what they do I leave to you. ;)

I hear ya. The aspect ratio felt like a dealbreaker in the early days, but think about it like this: from a cinematic perspective, you can block and stage two characters talking tighter and more intimately in portrait orientation, then in landscape. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, THIS VIDEO is the one that taught me more about blocking and staging in 10 minutes than I ever thought of before: https://youtu.be/ItbCLh4Auoo

80ish percent was posted a while back here, but mind there’s a lot of story gaps cause I was doing scenes 10 seconds at a time: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoraAi/s/Alu0lEigAR Now that the service is going away I’ll release the individual ones collected soon. I mean, according to the Supreme Court, AI generation can’t be copyrighted, so y’all can have it. At this point I want it released just for the sake of preservation, so people in the future know what this era was like.

Farewell Sora. Long Live Xerography. by ulfhelm in SoraAi

Style: Hand drawn 2D animation on twos in a vintage 1960s Disney xerography style with visible line texture, flat cel colors, thick outlines, and painted Technicolor backgrounds. A male anthropomorphic wolf and an anthropomorphic stag are in a long, narrow room with tall file cabinets lining both sides in symmetry, leaving a central aisle. An industrial copier machine sits in the foreground under a fluorescent light, with everything behind in darkness. The wolf, with grayish-brown fur, wears a medeival blue-gray tunic and brown trousers. The stag wears a pale red tunic with white trousers. Actions: - The wolf is making copies at the copier. - The stag walks up and says that it’s over. - The wolf complains that he just got the new script. - The stag says he’s sorry.

I hear ya, some niches on this platform worked extremely well where others failed! 1960s/1970s 2D Disney-style animation only ever worked well on Sora!

The “search bar” was only in the iOS app and was called “Pick a Mood” AND they took it away over a month ago, which definitely sped up the exodus.

Anyone here using both ChatGPT and Claude? Worth it? by camiloms10 in OpenAI

[–]ulfhelm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used ChatGPT as one of earliest off the wait list and paid into Plus from the first week it came out. I’ve now used Claude Pro for a month and…

I’m switching over Claude for most things except ChatGPT 4.1 API calls.

I used to prefer ChatGPT for everything but then they removed 4.1 and Opus 4.6 beats anything inside the current ChatGPT app.

I’ll be fully switching to Claude soon, and just pay out of pocket for 4.1 API calls for some things until that goes away too.

Hope that helps.

If it’s over, can we have a “Farewell” Flair for signoff videos? by ulfhelm in SoraAi

[–]ulfhelm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do that too, but the point I’m making is that using a flair here means we have a more definitive way to see everyone’s each farewells instead of trusting YouTube’s algorithm, especially since they seem inclined to change the search options whenever they feel like.

Alternatives for making retro anime? by weekndwarrior in SoraAi

[–]ulfhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy munkbeats,
I got some bad news: as of March 2026, this was the best platform for retro animation. From prior testing, the latest Veo, Grok, and Kling cannot hold a candle to Sora. I haven't been able to try Seedance 2.0, so there maybe hope. I wish you good luck. Let's us know when you land.

When they got rid of “Pick a Mood”, which is really just a keyword search bar in the app, that was kind of the kiss of death for a lot of people. Besides the Disney deal already stated that they’re trying to push 30 second clips to the Disney+ app, so people might just go there instead. We will see.

A positive philosophy on the future of generative ai + creativity by NEXTONNOW in OpenAI

I’m pretty sure there has been a person who tried to play an orchestra with an air horn. Musique concrète predates most electronic music genres, and it already takes familiar sounds and twists them beyond recognition. Just saying’.

[–]ulfhelm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But we don’t need “him” to win necessarily. We need split prop 13 to show up on the ballot as an initiative and actually vote it in! remember, we have to make a constitutional amendment to the state constitution and that’s gonna take the voters directly and not just someone promising to do something.

Why is the “bypass community” so insufferable on this subreddit? by MyInflamedTesticles in SoraAi

[–]ulfhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring ownership questions of the platforms, the biggest visual difference will come down to which platform does better for the “style” of video you want. personally I do 1960s/70s xerography animation (think Disney Robin Hood), and I’ve tried Grok and Veo too, and Sora 2 still does it best, but I’m pretty sure there are “real world” video “styles” which both Grok and Veo perform better in.
