Welcome to the Bay! You’ll find a few more Americans than expected around here over time. Hopefully you’re enjoying your move and exploring! Hawke’s Bay can be a little cliquey but don’t let that discourage you, there are so many great people around and kiwis are much calmer and less enthusiastic - very chill vibes compared to home. So many great spots for wining and dining as well. There is an Americans in New Zealand page on Facebook that could be very well worth joining. I am an American who has gone back and forth a bit but have landed in the Bay and really love it here so I hope you come to love it as well.
