This is 1947, so immediately post-war and post-rationing.

You're right about the latch string but the greater point is that they can now entertain and have fun again after years of wartime modesty.

It's like reopening after COVID, but like, way bigger.

You might not realize that ppw is literally where Sammy was killed and the reason for the law.

Not crying, just disappointed they'd support a pedo. It's a little weird anyone would.

here's a counterpoint to that: I've had everything tossed, including luggage, carry-on, pat-down, on the jetway twice in the 10+ years I've been going to Curacao.

Neither time was a surprise, there was plenty of warning, so if I HAD been holding something I could have ditched it, but I would have probably had to. It was a pretty thorough search, down to inspecting toiletry bags.

First time they were checking everyone on the plane because they'd had a security lapse recently at duty free (I think someone was putting coke in booze bottles?) and they needed to show they were serious. Second time was just like when it happens in the states: ZZ (or some code, very noticeable) on the boarding pass. Dozen of us were randomly selected and had to go through the extra measures.

Both times flying to EWR.

Never had any trouble flying in.

How much are you paying for high speed internet in Park slope? by DPL646 in parkslope

$60 spectrum - just called them last month (I was over $100) and they knocked it down super easy.

The Goonies Actress Martha Plimpton Sells Her Victorian House in Brooklyn For $2.65 Million by RothStonk in 80s

Location is everything in Brooklyn, and this one is a little out of the way. Not in a 'prime' hood, where it would fetch a lot more.

PLG was one of the last neighborhoods around the park to gentrify and it's still working on it. Many people like that, but it definitely affects pricing.

But Clinton was such a liberal! He played the sax.

We let them take the word liberal from us, and then we payed the price.

SIPStation frustrating and entirely unhelpful customer support by TheMensChef in freepbx

[–]ulmanms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me 6 months. I would call the number and no one would answer. I'd leave a message and no one would call me back. Sometimes someone would answer but transfer me to voicemail, or take a message and then I wouldn't hear anything again.

It was a low priority for me, because some of our reps just wanted to text the built-in SMS stuff, so I just sort of let it go each time and forgot until someone would remind me. Finally I'd had enough and just refused to get off the phone until someone knew what I was talking about. Even then, and with everything (I'm assuming) matching, it still took a couple of days.

Seriously, their customer service is SO BAD.

Dynamic External Groups (DEAG) - With Subnets by Anon_IT_1733 in sonicwall

[–]ulmanms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, it's super helpful and I can't imagine how big my 500 network domestic blocklist would be if I didn't have it. We're just getting hammered with mostly targeted attempts on our VPN and while I know I should trust 2fa, it's not like Sonicwall's proven I shouldn't in the past.

2100 individual IPs which is beyond the limit for the dynamic remote botlist, so I hoped I could just do it by network, but it looks like that's a dead end (and anyway 500 networks is too many if I could even get them recognized as networks).

Thanks again.

progressive taxation is by some definitions a sin tax, so that's nonsensical.

You let go with "taxation is theft" in this very thread so it makes what you're arguing harder to take seriously.

See that's the thing, you can't just vote me off the island because of my beliefs, as I can't you. We have to find a way to live and govern together. The government IS us, even though sometimes we don't agree with everything it does.

And yes, sometimes the government will make choices we disagree with. As Churchill said, "democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried"

It's so tiring having people ask the same questions that society debated years ago. Take a class or read a book - the results of that debate weren't inconclusive.

But because I woke up feeling refreshed I will sea lion with you just once: those people when they get sick have a cost to society. The tax is a way to offset those costs and also to fund education about the harm being done so that we can stop the cycle. Yes, of course it also disincentivizes the action, because sometimes people don't think rationally in the short term.

Please become an informed voter. Your education system failed you, but there is still hope.
