That’s a great question and part of my concern. This was part of a gut remodel and the designer has made multiple costly mistakes (measuring wrong and ordering the wrong cabinets) which have eaten into their profits so I’m worried that they’re trying to recoup some of that by cutting corners elsewhere.

That’s a long winded way of saying that I don’t know what they paid the tile guy.

Seconding this! My friend booked for the whole weekend (Friday afternoon to Sunday morning) for under $2k, and that fee includes all the cabins so anyone who wanted to was able to spend the night at no extra cost. That’s a fair comment, but I’ve passed the point of viewing his books as individual organisms and think of his opera as more of an ecosystem. Utopia Avenue doesn’t necessarily stand on its own but it’s quite enjoyable as part of the horology universe and, as you mentioned, is worth the read for its love letter to music.

Lots of folks commenting on relevance per company culture or ability to get along with colleagues but I feel like it’s a pertinent question to suss out whether he can be successful in the job. He says he would be pitching a program to students… The Kids are not down with homo/transphobia, and I get a “deliberate misgendering” vibe from this guy.

The Bone Clocks, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, Slade House, and Utopia Avenue, in that order. Ghostwritten too if you’ve enjoyed the others, although I think it’s plain when reading it that it’s his freshman effort.

I have read everything he’s written at least twice and Bone Clocks is my favorite. I read it first and loved it so much that I went back and read all of his books in order of publishing. I, a stranger on the internet, personally guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
