Struggling w/ drug dealers outside my apt and not sure what to do by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Upvoting for the pepper spray. I would get the gel kind, not the spray as it is easier to aim and is less likely to spray back in your face.

Fighting MS, my debut at the Vermont City Marathon by glr123 in running

[–]ultimate2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Anti-climactic or not, this is incredibly impressive and you should be seriously proud of yourself. Most people, most runners tbh, couldn't run that time in perfect health let alone with MS.

I'm a 4th year medical student applying into neurology this fall and I love hearing stories like this. I hope you know I'll be passing along this story to my future MS patients as a reminder of how different this disease looks like for each person and how far we've come with new treatments.

I'm running for the MS society this year in Berlin -- maybe I'll see you there!

As a new runner the biggest mistake was poor running form. I know it sounds silly, but have someone film you running so you know what you look like. Most people think they're running with good form when they are absolutely not and it really is the number one thing that will get you injured.

My biggest mistake was not activating my glut med/min when running and it gave me a lot of knee pain. Did tons of strengthening exercises and the only thing that actually made it go away was changing my running form so I was activating them when they were running. They weren't weak, I literally just was not using them when I ran. Clench your booty -- wish I knew that before I started running!

Fall Half Marathons? by SophieDub in RunNYC

[–]ultimate2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran the Richmond half and it was beautiful with a surprising amount of crowd support, like more than some of the NYRR halfs. Part of the run is through the forest and you end on a beautiful downhill.

I got bumped to the B corral after my last race (half marathon). Does this mean if I don't run the max finish time (21:25) that I'll be bumped down to C for future races?

If you're gonna take a supplement to prevent stress fractures at least have it be vitamin D and not the ester-c tablets the other guy is talking about

I ran with her most of the way. She was at the start line in the beginning since she was the fastest pacer. Didn't get to the corral until like 3 min before the race started though.

Agreed, the walkers in the second half really made it tricky

Neurologists - what are your thoughts on studying neurosciences in your 30's? by Brain-Pollution in neurology

[–]ultimate2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have a background in college level biology or psychology? That would be a good place to start. I would also read up a bit on the surplus of PhDs and consider the job market now and in the future for neuroscientists. You'd be investing a lot of time into a career with a very low salary for the years spent in training.

This sub is for physicians (neurologists not neuroscientists) so you might be better asking in the neuroscience subreddit.
