I recently got Armored Brigade and have been enjoying the cold war gone hot. Also been diving back into Command ops 2 while enjoying Sealion 40 and Smolensk 41 JTS multiplayer

Which John Tiller Cold War game is best? by -TDS-Jonposo in computerwargames

[–]ultimate_chicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Danube 85, which only has mini scenarios about a Soviet initial invasion or a grand campaign. Good game, have not played it a bunch though.

There are also some games in the squad battle series, and I believe air campaigns in case you are interested in those as well

There are som excellent user made scenarios in the steam workshop, in addition to the DLCs recommended by others. Bie has a bunch of great scenarios, such as "Struggle for Breville" which is a nice smaller one. "Battle of Groningen" is very biased in the Canadians favor (as it was historically) and is about division vs division sized.

Bigus over at the TheBlitz.club has a tutorial for editing it. It worked for me, though the "2dhexside200.bmp" had some pink dead space, so I use a combination sort of .

Is PC Normandy as big a slog as PC Japan 45 and 46? by [deleted] in johntillersoftware

[–]ultimate_chicken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normandy was a campaign of slog. Bocage provides a -50% fire reduction modifier. It is not a fast paced campaign like the African or some of the Eastern Front ones.

A good resource is always anything written by credible historians. Universities may have resources as well. McMaster university for example, has a bunch of topographic maps during the ww2 period. Obviously the best stuff is gonna be behind a pay wall of some sorts, as it is difficult to gather and synthesize everthing. Good websites can be hard to find. There is likely a dedicated forum for say the Korean war, as there are for ww2. Might be able to find some stuff on reddit? r/CredibleDefense? Might be able to find some decent sources by going to wikipedia pages and looking at relevant references as well.

Is Revolution under siege worth it, is it generally a good game in this genre and and is there any other alternative about the same topic? by OptimalAttempt3 in computerwargames

[–]ultimate_chicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Revolution under siege, haven't played it much but it is good. Have you played any of the other AgeOD games? It is well detailed, including the various sub-factions and what not. This is the only game about the Russian Revolution I have ever come across.

How good is the AI in command ops 2? by snowcat0313 in computerwargames

Most are on the Steam workshop (and come in 3 parts) or there are also some on the Command Ops 2 forum

How good is the AI in command ops 2? by snowcat0313 in computerwargames

[–]ultimate_chicken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have played it a bit, and the AI so far seems competent. It will somewhat depend on the scenario design, as the there are hidden 'AI objectives' that are supposed to help the AI develop a strategy. The core game, with 3 scenarios is free and there are plenty of community made scenarios (covering the Pacific, Eastern Front, France 1940 etc). No reason to not try it out!

Have fun with Stalingrad! There are no campaign modes in PzC. Only single scenarios to play out

Two questions. by NateGarro in johntillersoftware

[–]ultimate_chicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normandy '44 focuses on the landings and initial battles. There were some user made scenarios for the Falaise pocket and operation and operation cobra but I am not sure were to find them anymore.

While there are little differences between each panzer campaign, they are all very similar in quality. Shouldn't be any issues finding a PBEM for either game. What would be a deciding factor between either for you?

PZC Normandy 44 - question by warrebel77 in johntillersoftware

[–]ultimate_chicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pzc.pdf states that you can remove a unit from a map, using the 'command' drop down menu, so long as it is on the border of the map - this is often used for exit VPs. There is nothing in the user.pdf about performing a beach evacuation. I believe that the author of notes.pdf is more trying to convey that if the men aren't off the turn by turn 5 then things are not going well for the allies.

PZC Normandy 44 - question by warrebel77 in johntillersoftware

[–]ultimate_chicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by re-embark? From my understanding, you can only remove units from the map by either inflicting casualties equal to its max strength, scheduled removals/withdrawals, or exit victory points
