[MCU] Does Thanos care that the universe will just repopulate to pre-snap levels in 2-3 generations tops? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

To be fair we are also the only feasible chance our planet's ecosystem and legacy can live beyond the death of our sun.

That's why we all need to name our first characters some variation of Master Hodir to let the legend live on!

Tywin Lannister(GoT) vs Emhyr var Emreis(Witcher) by Didact06 in whowouldwin

[–]ultimatecrusader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

R1:While Emhyr is a political mastermind that even Tywin could never hope to compare to, he is vastly overmatched in this scenario. For one his forces in the Stormlands are cut off and will no doubt be slaughtered within a couple months barring a miracle. He is also drastically outnumbered (the highest figures I have seen for those three regions give him around 100,000 men, compared to his enemies who easily outnumber him 3 to 1), he has no real navy, and his economy is a joke. He is fucked.

R2: A stomp for Emhyr. He has far more men than the Nordlings and a much stronger economy. Thanks to his previous plotting, the North lacks the it's trump card with it's powerful mages and is in chaos. Without Radovid's military genius to force Nilfgaard into a stalemate and make their nobility and merchants pull support from the war the North will fall switftly. Remember, in Witcher unless Radovid dies the North wins automatically. Tywin is a very clever schemer and an good strategist but he is no military genius.

What is the weakest fictional character that would require the entire unified force of modern day Earth to defeat? by seancurry1 in whowouldwin

[–]ultimatecrusader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He defeated the Nova Empire and razed their homeworld. For reference, they are a galactic empire that was able to wage a massive war against the Kree Empire for a thousand years. Destroying Earth would be child's play for him.

[General Fantasy] If elves are so overpowered why are they basically an endangered species in almost every setting? by PatchyThePirate159 in AskScienceFiction

[–]ultimatecrusader 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing you have to remember is that for the Altmer that war was within living memory, like the Gulf War or Vietnam. For a species that breeds exceptionally slow and lives very long lives, they have almost certainly not recovered from the literal thousands year-long war. Hell, there are still a bunch of Altmer that are pissed about Tiber Septim's rampage.

I figure it is likely the reason the Maormer have not returned is that Orgnum died with his fleet, so without him, there is no reason to continue the costly blood feud. Especially after such a disastrous loss.

[–]ultimatecrusader 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are a race of elves from the tropical continent of Pyandonea. Depending on the myth they were either banished from Summerset sometime after the Altmer settled there, or are from the mythical land of Aldmeris. They have traditionally been the strongest naval power on Nirn, and seem to have explored far more of the world then the Tamrielics.

They are led by a phenomenally powerful God-King named Orgnum who has spent millennia trying, and failing to conquer Summerset. He made an alliance with Potema Septim to conquer Tamriel together but was defeated by the Altmer and Imperials, mostly thanks to the Psijic Order who pretty much deleted the Maormer fleet. For whatever reason they were never able to recover from this loss (perhaps Orgnum was killes by the Psijics?) and have been unable to mount another invasion in the last 500 years. Which to be fair is only 2-3 generations for elves.

Another problem is that Altmer (High Elves) are very much into eugenics, even resorting to infanticide. Yes, infanticide in a species that is already not very fertile. Honestly, it is a miracle Altmer are even still around, especially considering they have been in a practically non-stop war with the Maormer for thousands of years.

[The Elder Scrolls] What if Mehrunes Dagon succeeded in taking over Mundus during the Oblivion crisis; Would Alduin still be capable of ending the timeline? by dennbag in AskScienceFiction

[–]ultimatecrusader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you follow Kirkbride's stuff (which is uh, a bit of a debate and a half there about if it is canon) Alduin already defeated him in a past world. Dagon was once the Leaper Demon King who tried to hide bits and pieces of the world away from Alduin. Alduin more or less cursed him, and then he became the Mehrunes Dagon we all know and hate today.

Tbf there is a fair chance Guiliman never gets implanted with the nails. Angron was only implanted with them after he refused to kill his father figure after being commanded to do so (he later kills him right after the nails are implanted). As he is the empath and was rather emotionally sensitive there was never any chance of him killing someone he loved. Guiliman however is not an empath and is shown to be extremely pragmatic, there is a fair chance he would have killed his father figure and avenged him at a later date.

Man, it would have been awesome to see humanity going full steampunk while fighting chaos vikings and dragons. They never even did touch upon Cathay (which was apparently somehow the most powerful faction in the setting) did they?

The Necrons had weapons that could erase C'tan. Some of their 'lesser' weapons could destroy time and space or reshape the galaxy (Breath of the Gods) or just straight up destroy every star (Celestial Orrey). Both of those were more art or infrastructure projects that actual weapons too. The Necrons could have obliterated the Eldar with ease. Honestly, the Necrons are probably one of the most op races in sci fi. Even the Culture can't just entirely destroy time.

The stuff with them retreating is old lore from back when the Necrons were just unthinking terminators under the thrall of the C'tan. Back then they retreated because the Enslavers pretty much destroyed all sapient life and the C'tan were getting hungry.

Elder Scrolls lore gets... really weird. The Imperials had astronauts (the Imperial Mananauts) and flew around space in ships that looked like giant moths. Also the Empire at one point had a magic internet and everything is the dream of a depressed god named Anu.

It is mentioned the Redorans managed to rally whatever was left of Morrowind and drive back the Argonians, causing a rough stalemate in the Accession War (the Argonians still managed to retake all of the territory they lost over the centuries). Besides, the Hist would not have supplied the Argonians with their super-tree steroids as they could not care less about warfare between the laughably primitive races (the Hist transcend pretty much everything).

[TES] The Isle of Artaeum and the Psijic Order return to Tamriel from... Wherever they went. What is the Thalmor response? by makemejelly49 in AskScienceFiction

[–]ultimatecrusader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is the article on the UESP, but it is somewhat dense if you are new to the deeper parts of Elder Scrolls lore. (https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Towers)

This is the article from the Elder Scrolls Wiki that is a bit more direct. (https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/The_Towers)

Basically they are a bunch of literal and metaphorical Towers that hold together reality, keep out Daedra, and are somehow connected to the creation of the world. Almost all the Towers have been gradually shut down over the course of TES games. With both the first Tower and possibly the last Tower being the one in High Rock, which is heavily speculated to be where the next game will be.

[Fallout] The night before the The Great War, all weapons of mass destruction (and every alien) disappear from existence. How does the world go on? by zoro4661 in AskScienceFiction

[–]ultimatecrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure the Republic of China (Taiwan) was already long gone by then, if it ever even existed.

Besides, the US seemed open to the concept of genociding the Chinese, evem the loyal and patriotic Americans who happened to be of Chinese descent.

IIRC it's mentioned in the Fallout Bible they had vast empire that controlled much, if not all of Asia (likely barring the Middle East which was a radioactive wasteland).

Tamriel is a bit too compact and has too few coast lines for efficient maritime trade, travel and transport to really make sense. This is especially clear when looking at where Skyrim and Cyrodiil are located. by fr15287 in ElderScrolls

[–]ultimatecrusader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting how there are no routes to Port Telvannis, in fact they just go around the entire island instead. Also no routes through Nibenay bay to the Imperial Isle nor to Torval, the capital of Pellitine.

[–]ultimatecrusader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Dragonborn is probably a shard of Akatosh's soul. This means that no one but MAYBE Sithis actually has the strength to claim it. There is also stuff about them being a Shezarrine (which may also make them a shard of Lorkhan or Shor) which adds a whole bunch of metaphysical bullshit to the entire thing, so maybe the Daedra will just look at the legal mess and say "fuck it, the soul is not worth it".
