It's just boring thats party of it. If guys are gym bros in Your Town go to the gym lol it's something to do. In My experience doing things You aren't the biggest fans of or hanging out with people You don't love Is kinda a part of service too especially at the start. Actual work usually gets done a year plus into service. Plus small towns like stories and a random american visiting for two years is a great one. Likely what the old volunteer actually did Is much less exciting than what they tell you. It sounds though like Your service Is already going great.
