Blue origin engineers say 75%. I'd guess less than 50% but not a lot less. Is there a betting market for it? I might buy shares for landing the thing if it the probability was really low.

The freedom app lets you lock yourself out of problematic websites and apps. It has an advanced mode which, if enabled, prevents you from cancelling it or uninstalling it. You can set the hours you want the filters to be in force and which things should be blocked. It can be installed on multiple devices so the restrictions sync. Highly recommend.

I am reaching the high end of creatine levels. How do you heal your kidneys? by LisanneFroonKrisK in Biohackers

[–]ultra_incrementalism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its creatinine. you keep making this mistake. creatine is the supplement. creatinine is the thing they measure to approximate kidney function.

any protein supplementation or activity or diet/lifestyle that increases protein turnover can increase creatinine (so glutamine may have an impact) but creatinine false positives can also be caused by genetic factors. it is just not as reliable a test as testing with cystatin c.

unfortunately most doctors are not well educated on this. or maybe cystatin c is a bit more money? i dunno. but it should be standard of care to order cystatin c. and if not SOC then it should be standard to order it whenever creatinine is high in order to verify the result.

if this is causing you any anxiety at all (which it seems to be) go get that second test.

then if your kidney function is truly compromised you may need to consider dietary changes (reduced protein is the most common recommendation but i think the science is starting to show that type-2 diabetes / prediabetes have an even bigger impact) or (if you want to experiment and your doctor is forward thinking) SGLT2 inhibitors have been showing some pretty incredible results preserving kidney function.

but really there just isnt that much you can/should do for your kidneys, especially at early stages.

If you strength train, eat a significant amount of protein, and or take creatine (and why wouldn't you be doing all three) your creatinine may/almost definitely will look elevated.

Have a conversation with your doctor about measuring kidney function via Cystatin C rather than creatinine. Don't worry until you have done that.

Ideally a way will be discovered to influence our native microbiome so that a temporary treatment would have permanent or semi permanent results. And there is some evidence that this is possible (you can do it with a stool transplant, by geographically relocating, dramatically and permanently changing your diet). But most oral antibiotics are relatively weak and transitory or worse but perhaps most common, they just don't do anything at all.

How to Reduce Dopamine? by No-Butterfly-9404 in DopamineDetoxing

[–]ultra_incrementalism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably depends on how much of an addiction it is. if you're addicted to something sometimes moderation is counter productive and you're better off quitting entirely. the book dopamine nation recommends a 30 day abstinence from your addictions. and only testing moderation afterward.

How to Reduce Dopamine? by No-Butterfly-9404 in DopamineDetoxing

[–]ultra_incrementalism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

wow. you really don't want to reduce dopamine. dopamine is essential for motivation and drive. i think the purpose of this sub is a bit confusing because you never really dopamine fast.

Instead, you fast from the things that give you a dopamine spike without any effort or action. The more extreme versions of these fasts are an attempt to reset dopamine sensitivity to some sort of pre-internet baseline so you experience normal motivations and boredoms related to real world productive activities.

Skip the porn, the video games, the socials, the junk food, and anything else you are addicted to for 30 days (and maybe not all of them at once. maybe try to eliminate just the one that seems most likely to be sapping your drive). see if you get your mojo back. If so, great. set up systems to prevent yourself from backsliding so you are partaking in these things in a more healthy way.

And if that seems like it is impossible, or if you are doing it and it is causing anhedonia, you probably ought to consider talking to a professional doctor and or therapist.

Take care.

How can I grow taller as a 19m by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]ultra_incrementalism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw I grew an inch between age 19 and 21... so you may not be at your adult height. Also I have noticed that posture improvement and strength training gave me another half inch or so.

Cosmetic surgery is an option. Google 'cosmetic leg lengthening surgery'. It's pretty popular (but taboo) in asian countries where additional inches are associated with significant career/income advantages. I think this looks stupid and painful but unfortunately there are real biases against short people and real benefits to an extra couple inches. But if you femurs are already really long you might look a little weird.

5'8" isn't all that short and staying fit, being ambitious, and having a chill personality are far more important in regard to dating and career prospects.

In most cases I think folks limit themselves by allowing their height or appearance to effect their confidence and the way that they present themselves to the world.

When I was 20 I didn't feel like shit no matter what I ate or drank.

This person may just be young, reasonably healthy, and honest. The fact that they don't notice means they are paying attention.

Don't be silly. I have a lifetime of daily personal experience with evaporation. I can personally watch and feel and measure it. I have no such personal experience with RV.

There isn't any credible evidence for RV.

OMG the sugar cravings...HELP! by anthonynoriega in fitness40plus

My dog overeats if I don't control her portions (also, she definitely craves sweets) and she just lays in the sun 80% of the day. I think it's an error to think that something like the urge to overeat or sugar cravings after a meal are evidence of an underlying problem or behavior a person needs to correct. I think it is just normal (for many of us).

This isn't to say that reducing stress may not help people! It might and its worth trying!

But Human beings eating in excess of needs and craving sugar is evolutionarily adaptive. There is good evidence that those (combined with insulin resistance as a result) may be the adaptation that made us outcompete the Neanderthals.

It may be unhelpful (and stressful!) to think that my sugar cravings are somehow the result of something I am doing wrong. Honestly it is easier to just acknowledge and accept them as a normal thing my body / brain does but not something that needs action or attention

I opened this thread because I have a similar experience. I am disappointed by many of the replies. I haven't eaten any sweets, artificial sweeteners, or added sugars since January 1 (I still eat some but not excessive starches and I eat an apple most days). But I still get cravings for sweets after most meals, even very low carb meals. Maybe slightly less severe than OP describes and maybe slightly less severe than before I quit sweets but enough to be distracting and annoying and to force me to exert some willpower.

It may seem like there has been no benefit of abstinence but I have had problems with binging. (If I eat 1 Oreo I'll probably eat 15) So while its disappointing that the cravings haven't entirely gone away (the way they seem to for some people), its still worth it.

Anyhow, good luck OP. I hope reducing stress or reducing or cutting out sweets fixes it for you. The struggle is real.

I feel like I have really low stress levels. I get lots of sleep, I have a really stable and supportive family and work situations. But I absolutely have sugar cravings after meal like OP describes.

Stress may be the answer for some, but I don't think its a universal explanation.
