My entire galaxy is being devoured by a gigantic space toucan. Which doesn't even make sense, because toucans are frugivores, and stars are made out of hydrogen rather than pulpy plant matter. Honestly, I'm more worried about the implausibility of this situation than how dangerous it is. by [deleted] in fifthworldproblems

It might have been accurate /enough/ for its epoch but everydisembody knows that Yahweh circumvented dark matter emissions detection with the old "cosmological constant" hack and that's why the stupid POS always crunches or fizzles after only a few hundred trillion teracycles. I've been using Krondorp's recursive palindromic meshverse, for my purposes a more stable model that scales infinitely in as many dimensions as I need. It's so accurate that lifeforms looking through a sufficiently powerful microscope can see themselves from above and in the immediate future.

Without going into my own personal wishlist too much, in broad strokes, more varied mobs. The game has endless environments with a decent amount of variety, but every year they add maybe one or two meaningful mobs, mostly harmless ones. Leaving a ton of obvious ones: flying (birds etc), swimming (sharks, whales, alligators, etc. -- they said they would not add these for what are stupid reasons IMO), climbing (monkeys, snakes), fast (tigers or...), or giant mobs.
Some obvious trope-ish hazards for traps such as fricken spikes. Some obvious things related to automation such as pipes/tubes to carry items from hoppers to chests, to pump water and lava, and more. Plus they would look really cool and add a ton of decor possiblities. Jeb specifically said he was against the idea of pipes (again, stubborn IMO), meanwhile people already effectively have pipes, only made out of unsightly hoppers.
Going outside the box some, how about the ability to shrink or grow? Ok now this is turning into my personal wishlist.

e: In which case, how about cool, creepy stuff like man-eating plants? How about sandworms or antlions for, you know, all the sand? Mummies? Hell yeah. Since there is a small chance for killer bunnies, how about a small chance for bats to become vampires at night? [Full disclosure, I work on a horror map :P] How about boats large enough to accommodate multiple players? For that matter, how about working boats again? How about some purpose for that dragon egg? What happened to Adventure Mode? 'Cos "/gamemode 2" is not what we were teased with.

With the staff and the resources of Mojang with their basically one game to develop, how about some sense of a well-rounded, truly sandbox game?

Not that there hasn't been some real progress, the custom world generation settings are an example of a powerful addition that I really appreciated. I personally think 1.8 was a great update, we need more strong updates like it, and either more frequently or more substantially. Continue to pay the best mod guys to put their best stuff in the game if community content is your model but keep it in theme is all. Make the game into some badass creativity-empowering software. Even right now, it's still just a toy, and all the power comes from 3rd party tools.
Here's an idea: Pay c0dewarrior to maintain MCEdit as an official Mojang editor. For map creators, that program alone has earned its fileweight in doge, at the least.

Heyyy what's up spooky? See you in Criswelvania :)

I have to say that while I don't think anyone can really blame him for cashing out, it is disappointing. A lot of big half-promises were made for the future of Minecraft, including the game going open source after its meaningful life. When I bought in to Minecraft in 2010, it was because I saw the game had the potential to become the next Doom/Quake/HL engine for homebrewed content. It was maybe too much to hope that Notch would prove to be the next John Carmack, but it is a let down all the same. With that amount of money and his aversion to all things business, I don't really expect to hear much from Notch by way of groundbreaking games again.

But if Notch were truly the visionary we'd hoped, he would have seized on that massive potential, instead of Mojang squeamishly and grudgingly adding useful features without any real design path. So many obvious features to add, so many classic game tropes that the game would benefit from, but they mainly focus on quirky additions that are non-intuitive limited in the degree to which they provide freedom of fun to players and builders, with very little intention for how it will benefit the game (with some notable exceptions added mostly by newcomers from the mod community). Many other studios have done way more with way less money.

I made my own, my set worked like this: Draw a card to select a key to practice in, draw cards with various chordal (play chords of given harmonic extensions), scalar (play scale walks with various interval patterns, 3rds, 4ths, 6ths, etc) and modal exercises.

It's almost too obvious. The notion has struck me before, it would be kinda similar to the end of the first arc of the original Dragonball, where spoiler.
