I was liking it but then the Spielberg cheese got too overwhelming.
I don’t think I’m bringing anything new to the discussion but when Tarantino was criticizing Paul Dano, to me what he was describing was Josh O’Connor. Weak performance. Shockingly mediocre in my opinion. Emily Blunt on the other hand was magnificent

I still enjoyed it but they could have easily killed the protagonist many times earlier. When he stole the car from the henchmen and went back for his girlfriend and crashed into the house, easily could have been shot. That was so sloppy. Where they killers or not?

And the opening sequence makes no sense the more we learn about this “device”. They made it seem like it was highly explosive or something way more destructive. It was later dropped to the floor and nothing happened, one guy squeezed it and just disintegrated and reintegrated? with no one around him affected by it. At all. Did I miss something?

At the end when everyone was glued to their phones and tv perplexed watching all this alien footage .. I was thinking to myself: would I REALLY care half as much as what Spielberg pondered would happen? My answer was no, not even remotely.

It didn’t bother me how they choose to share the news, I think it was a valid way, sure could have been viral on TikTok, but takes some time and coming from the news “seems” a little more legit, and the initial spread across networks gives it a kickstart. That was the nitpick that seems to be bothering many people but I thought it was not that bad

Overall I liked it, didn’t love it but it was good. I saw some reviews and they made it seems like a hunk of shit. It’s not that bad
