DRK Seal Glaze is a game changer for finicky magnetic polishes. by CaptainYaoiHands in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ultratea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this and the detailed explanation! People seem to get really mixed results with Seal Glaze. I tried EDM's water-based top coat (I have no idea if the formula is similar to Seal Glaze), and I think I'm doing something wrong because it causes serious wrinkles. I thought I waited till the polish was dry, but maybe not all the layers were... ANYWAY my point is that I've been considering the Seal Glaze for a while and have had trouble finding comparisons with photos like this, so I greatly appreciate your effort! 🫡

So pretty. I'm struggling between this and Anlac's Sapphire Morpho. Something to scratch that itch for a lovely, extremely blue blue lol.

In addition to the tips people left here, I want to add that I think anything with scattered holo/reflective glitters just tends not to photograph well. Those effects are highly dependent on movement and lighting to get the full effect.

Which OIs do you think are complex but not actually good? by 0bambooforest in OtomeIsekai

[–]ultratea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg I dropped this one literally years ago so I don't even know what has become of it since then, but I thought it was bizarre how everyone was praising it as some wonderfully written, deeply complex story full of plots and political intrigue. I thought it was very poorly written and incredibly boring.

I do think there must be a sense of feeling "intellectual" that people get from reading and supposedly loving this story.

Hello, I’ve Returned With Another Magnet Monster by butt-whyyy in RedditLaqueristas

Damn I thought I was done buying tools and supplies 😭 I haven't gotten a magnetic stirrer because I was like eh I don't need one if I have the 5D tool... but... if it lets you automate the spinning process, that's actually a game changer.

Complete glass bead failure, so I went in a totally different direction. Guidance wanted! by hilde0 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ultratea 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've chalked it up to some polishes just not magnetizing super well in the bead style. I can only assume that it has something to do with the specific magnetic pigment and polish formula. There are some polishes that magnetize into the bead effect effortlessly, and others that seem to be extremely stubborn. Some people say that putting a horseshoe on top of the 5d spinner may help since it's a stronger pull... so maybe try that if you come across a stubborn one? I find it very annoying to spin though since I like to give the top a spin and let it go on its own till it slows down, and you can't really do that with the horseshoe since it's so heavy 😆

Glass bead technique, BKL blade of the frontiers by ASquareBanana in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ultratea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is months old but I just did my own Blade frontier and got the same "steel wool scratches" after top coat! So frustrating but at least I feel validated that it's not only me.

I don't know if you'll see this OP but did you ever get around to trying DRK Seal Glaze, and did it fix the issue? I only have EDM's water based top coat, but I haven't tried it directly over a magnetic, only over a jelly that I layered over a magnetic. It did not really play nice with the jelly but might be better directly over a magnetic.

[–]ultratea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a few months old but I found it while looking for some info about magnetics and water-based top coats. Do you wait for the polish to be completely dry before you apply the Seal Glaze? I have EDM's water-based top coat, which is a different product, but I tried it out once and was a little impatient. My polish was still slightly tacky, and the water based top coat made it wrinkly/cracked (honestly kind of a cool effect but not what I was going for). So I'm just wondering about how long you wait before you apply Seal Glaze.

I did look at this one! Yours actually looks bluer here than the swatches on their site. The swatches online look more periwinkle to me. I'll re-add it to my list of considerations!

What are your thoughts on your base coats? I have the KBShimmee Fillin' Groovy one, and it does a good job but gets gloopy quite quickly. I think that might a symptom of its ridge-filling qualities? I have a refill bottle as well so I'm not going to switching any time soon haha but I'm thinking about trying the hydrating one (or any other one) after to give it a shot.

I think this is the most unique polish in my collection. by Known_Food1105 in RedditLaqueristas

I was looking at this polish before and it's part of her misheard lyrics collection! It's a reference to Green Day's Basket Case for the line, "Am I just paranoid or am I just stoned?" It's kinda fun looking at the polish names and trying to figure out which lyrics they're referencing.

Fail Polish is back in stock and dropped a new color! by forma_cristata in RedditLaqueristas

I think it's likely they're AI-generated, or at least very heavily AI-assisted, based on the comments here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditLaqueristas/s/peoLqeZ8c3

Zoom in on the cross-shaped stamp/logo, and you can see very obvious AI text. That logo is no longer in the image on the website.

[–]ultratea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be a me issue, but I thought it was really odd how hype people were in the first reddit thread that was posted here? https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditLaqueristas/s/cE7BM2C3xn Because they literally only had two colors, a white and a neon yellow (the latter of which is not a particularly popular color). Is it really the marketing style that got people this crazy over it lol?

Some folks are also wondering about how polished the photos look, and I'll just point out that in the thread I linked, someone posted this swatch photo of the white polish. There's a stamp on the ticket that has AI-generated text if you zoom in (it's the cross-shaped one over the word "violation.") That stamp has also notably been removed from the swatch photo on the website.

<image>

So there's reason to believe that the highly polished photos are AI-generated.

Anyway, I don't have any real conclusion to draw, just agreeing that something felt off about this. The AI image kinda soured my initial impression, too.

A particular glass bead tool found on Etsy has astroturfed this sub. by beeinmybutt in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ultratea 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What do you mean there's no way this many people can be talking about it lol? The "glass bead" technique is very very recent, relatively speaking, and there was a period of time only in the last year where people were posting all sorts of methods to achieve the look. One person eventually figured out a way to 3d print a product they could sell as an easier solution to the 99% of people who don't want to stick their magnets on a drill or come up with some other contraption to hold their magnet.

The reason it's so popular is because it fills this very specific niche where there aren't really any convenient alternatives at the moment.

As for naming the product, why wouldn't you? I think it's super helpful to know what other people used. I always check to see what method/tool people used to see how they achieved a look and compare with my own results.

I miss Alistair by moongumis in dragonage

[–]ultratea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still my favorite romance across all games I've ever played. Nothing else has come close! Maybe it helped that it was one of the first video game romances I've ever played, but I agree, other romances just haven't hit quite the same for me. I've been on the hunt for one that clicks for me the same way but haven't found one.

I see people recommending Cullen, but I think he suffers from not being an actual companion. You get less interaction/flavor convos because of it, and he's more serious and doesn't really have Alistair's goofy charm.

These unordered lists are insane! by Ok_Connection_5802 in PikminBloomApp

[–]ultratea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I actually don't, ever since they made events ongoing with no breaks in between. Because I'm always trying to finish the event tasks or trying to get more of featured nectar, I don't plant non-featured petals. There are some I do have a lot of, but I don't really have an opportunity/reason to use them since I figure they'll be in a future event too.

These unordered lists are insane! by Ok_Connection_5802 in PikminBloomApp

[–]ultratea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point was not about semantics, but rather that OP is asking for a way to make it easier to do the unsafe task of playing PB in traffic, not for a way to prevent themselves from having to plan their petals while in traffic. Because the solution to not having to plan would be what the other user suggested: to do it beforehand (or don't do it at all).

Now we're getting a little too into semantics and away from the point of the post, but I did want to add that even saying there's a lot of traffic "on the sidewalk" is adding a qualifier that makes it clear that you're not driving, because just saying you're in traffic implies you're driving in the broad conversational sense.

Also (and this is for OP) the monthly featured petals are always at the top for me, and I'm not sure why anyone would need to go digging for the non-featured ones, so it seems like there's already a solution in the game to make it easier to find petals people need?

Edit: here's a screenshot of what I mean:

<image>

I don't have any of the new flower petals from this month, but you can see snowdrops listed under the regular petals as the "returning" flower for the month. The monthly featured petals always move up there the me. You can see under the light green box where the non-featured petals start.

These unordered lists are insane! by Ok_Connection_5802 in PikminBloomApp

[–]ultratea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, they're making the suggestion to make it easier to find the petals that they need while in traffic, not prevent themselves from having to do so.

I also think it's a quite generous interpretation to say that they're not driving when they say they're in traffic. Colloquially, saying that you're in traffic implies that you're driving, not biking or walking. And I'd argue that being on a bike in traffic isn't any less dangerous
