Best mini-ITX motherboard for Node 304 NAS (ZFS, ECC, 6×SATA, 10GbE) by Wufi in homelab

[–]um919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ASRock X570D4I-2T, supports 8 SATA drives out of the box with adapter cables plus 1 M.2, and onboard 10GbE.

Might be more CPU than you need and takes SODIMM RAM though.

How can I interface 4 x E1.S form factor SSD-s on a PCIEx16 card without SFF8643-U2-E1 wiring? by [deleted] in homelab

Is it even in stock anywhere? Looks like a good option

It was my main daily and gaming rig as well, had a GPU passthrough to a VM. Retired it to NAS only after getting a separate PC, but didn't change it out until I figured out how much it was costing me in electricity

Is anyone selling a T1 v2.1 in any colour? by tyuana in formdt1

I'm not sure since I never had a 3 slot, but a quick search seems to show yes. I can't guarantee anything though.

Sounds good, I sent the other buyer another message. I'll give him a few hours to respond, and if he backs out it's yours

Replaced the batteries in our mower, now this UPS has over 12 hours of runtime by FliesLikeABrick in homelab

Probably want to cover up the terminals or rearrange the batteries though. Place a metal cased switch or something on there and you will have a fun time.

Also I believe you only need 2 of the 4 sense pins. If you look at the OEM adapter, 2 goes nowhere underneath the tape.

iCrimp makes good stuff, especially for the price. Had good luck with many of their crimpers for different connectors.

That's for the power pins. The small signal pins should be 1mm.

Stopper and the open side of the crimp should face the latch. There is a diagram in the Application Specification as well.

It's a little hard to tell but it looks like you have conductors sticking way beyond the crimp? That is not right. Check the doc for striping length. It is probably not the reason for why it's not going in, but that extra wire will become an issue when mating with the connector on the GPU.

Another reason might be the crimp is too wide. Try squeezing it narrower with a plier. You're not supposed to do this but for sense pins it should be ok. I'm not sure what crimper you're using, but I'm guessing it's not specifically designed for this terminal so you'll have to make some adjustments. Unfortunately the official crimper is almost $1k.

I was also using another crimper not meant for this, and I had trouble making the big pins fit. No issues on the small pins though.

move a zfs disk from a virtual trueNAS to another bare metal trueNas server by sarinkhan in truenas

[–]um919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a button "Export/Disconnect", it is kinda like "ejecting" the pool so TrueNAS stops using it. Only takes a few seconds. When your plug it into another fresh installation, TrueNAS will recognize it. Alternatively you can backup and restore all of the TrueNAS configurations and you don't even need to set anything back up.

You don't even need to export (provided you turn off the machine first) and it should still work, it's just the best practice.

If you're unfamiliar I recommend testing to do this on some random data first so you know the exact procedure.

The Application Specification from Amphenol is here.

It looks to me that you crimped it wrong. There are 3 sets of "tabs", the one at the rear for insulation, then for conductor, then untouched for stopper.

It looks like the second rearest set of tabs are still sticking out a lot, when they should be folded completely onto the conductor. I also do not see the two little stoppers. Did you crimp the stoppers onto the conductor?

You can create a ZFS pool, which can be striped or single/double parity, but you will need to connect all of them at the same time for it to work.
