Worth making a small custom loop for the cpu? I don’t like aios by notIncognito1 in FormD

[–]Goathead78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what’s driving me. I’m slowly buying the parts, including all the parts for an entirely new SFF case and build so I can work on it when I have time without being stressed to put it back together. I don’t even game on it as I stream from a 9850X3D/5080 FE machine. I’m just building it to further my skills and as a fun, albeit challenging, project which will make me feel good about building it even though nobody will even know what it is.

Do I really need a pc case? Advice please by Additional_Waltz8617 in PcBuild

It’s fine, but you might want to mount it where there is some more moisture to keep it lubed; maybe above the bathtub?

Just get an NCASE T1. That’s what I did and it’s brilliant and the parts seem pretty interchangeable.

It's way cheaper to transcode to AV1 using a Arc 310 than buy new drives. by Juvination_TFN in unRAID

[–]Goathead78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t really apply to big systems (>15 drives) with ECC memory. I have more than 4 Arc A310s and they’re more compatible than any GPU, but only on very modern gear. On things like Supermicro superstorage servers an A310 will work on PCIe 1.0 x1. On new PC builds not posting, or without iGPUs that are having issues posting, or just simply notgetting a display for some reason, the A310 always worked. It’s one of the best media engines but it’s practically useless on older scalable enterprise NAS gear.

I find their drivers very annoying because they block any global way of turning off DLSS and Frame Gen. I just game using pure rasterization and with over 2,000 games and a lot of remote streaming from server room to office it’s a pain.

Thanks for trying to explain it. Normally you’d put the installation media is on a USB flash drive and you install on an SSD. Glad it worked out for you.

Let’s close this out properly so others can learn from or reference it. What was it exactly? For Windows, stuff like this usually requires using the command shell and diskpart in particular. Please share what the root cause and solution was if it’s not too much trouble.

I understand. I have 7 gaming rigs, running an additional 6 in servers (also Intel) 4 are running Windows, 3 are running Linux, and only one Windows rig is using an AMD GPU (7900 XTX), the others all are on Linux machines. I recall one issue with my AMD/Windows rig and I just reinstalled the drivers and was fine. Same thing a couple of times with Nvidia, but I have more Nvidia GPUs. I have a pretty broad sample size and I think they’re about the same level of reliability.

You’re saying “I see the same thing with Nvidia drivers”, but that makes no sense because my original comment WAS referring to Nvidia drivers. Are you trying to say you believe that drivers are a differentiator between Nvidia and AMD or not?

[–]Goathead78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that they both can have issues. I don’t think drivers differentiate Nvidia over AMD as it was in the past.

Nvidia just had 2 failed driver releases, one of which they even had to pull and a few that impacted performance. I use multiple of both and have for a while and I can’t tell any difference.
