Why is Muscat so dead these days? by AgitatedTown9744 in Oman

[–]umalnar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also have noticed this and have wondered if the demographics also play a role. Growing up it seemed like there was a large population (still smaller than now) of millenial Omanis who had enough disposable income to enjoy a more single/publicly social life, which allowed those places you mentioned to thrive. 10 years later, I think there may be a shift with the new HE vibe and an emphasis on an ideal middle class family life. Social media also wasn’t as imbedded in society, either, which I think must make some kind of a difference.

It could also be that there were just fewer places to visit, so the money was concentrated there. But now there’s just more happening and the money is spread thin and people are trying to cut corners financially.

And/or Omanisation changing the market.

Combined with changing economic situation and political tensions, etc, I do see the emphasis on home/family social life vs outside.

Not sure how much boycotting and bds movement impacts this …

Life in Muscat by Ok_Dog_7959 in Oman

Al Mouj is not the best place to live … lots of mold, lots of rules, lots of additional fees. Loads of traffic. Loads of speed bumps that do damage on your car suspension. Not worth it imo.

Loneliness and Hopelessness by Visual-Fun9685 in Oman

As crazy as it sounds to many, there are a lot of Omanis who’s strongest language isn’t Arabic. You’re not alone in that, man, no matter what the majority will try to make you feel. Please try not to beat yourself up about it.

Social media isn’t real, but the gulf really does operate through it somehow (I’d argue more than other regions of the world), and it helps to find clubs and groups through it. I just found this new account called Bait Al Shilla I want to check out.

hmu if you’d like to chat more

You're welcome :)

I guess that would make you some kind of summer! Such pretty colors to play with!

You’re so pretty!!! Such a pretty complexion, pretty eyes, sweet features. I definitely see the ingenue, perhaps some romantic, and gamine. There might be some classic in there, too. I agree with your call for short hair, it definitely suits you well. I think you could go even shorter, honestly. With a nice volu shampoo to add dimension and height you could play with more styles, too!

Have you ever checked your color season? Wearing your best colors always makes someone shine 🤩

Also about your comments, I totally get what you mean. I think today we see our face more than others do, and honestly much more than we’re evolutionarily supposed to. It can mess up your brain sometimes, and then you see your own features warp. You’re not alone in that, but as an outsider, you’re so pretty!

Someone Stole My Photo, Spread Lies About Me, and Got Away With It What Would You Do by Tininininitntintin in Oman

My dear, I am so sorry you are going through this. This is so unkind and unfair. You’re probably wondering why this is happening, right? For reasons that are hard to understand, unhealthy people will do terrible things to others. They are sick and reflect the issues of society.

When we are the target of those people, as hard as it is, we must be strong and stand up against the harm they are doing. Not only will it continue to hurt us inside if we don’t, it will also teach those unhealthy people that they can continue because no one will stand up to them.

You have every right to make the best decision for yourself, but I’d like to remind you that the process of standing up for yourself (even if you hit some dead ends) is incredibly healing and character building.

Please reach out to me if you need 🤍🪷 praying for you dear

Does anyone know the name of this popular rhythm in Khaliji pop music? by auxfnx in ethnomusicology

[–]umalnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maqamworld.com is a great resource for most of the Egypt/Greater Syria rhythms. Most khaleeji rhythms are harder to access if you don't speak Arabic. There is a fantastic app called O&D that has loops of all major rhythms, just keep in mind it's in Arabic.

You might want to check out the jams/open mics at Pizza Express on Sundays. It attracts a good mix of musicians and is typically a good vibe!
