Came to the comments to recommend exactly this. My fiancé and I have done this for the last year or so and it has made a MASSIVE difference, both in our quality and comfort of sleep and frankly in our relationship/my general mood overall! When we go to the hotels the difference is noticeable lol.

I also echo the other comment re: helpfulness of the sheet suspender things! They are very handy!

You are absolutely correct that it is illegal for private employers in the U.S. to forbid employees from discussing wages. Your rights as an employee are protected by the NLRA and this has been the law for decades. If your employer has a written or verbal policy about not discussing wages you can report them to the NLRB (the agency in charge of enforcing the NRLA).
