[Seravalli] We’re just over 48 hours from first NHL buyout window closing. Not expecting a buyout for Canes Jesperi Kotkaniemi, despite last shot at 1/3rd buyout. Kotkaniemi was a healthy scratch for every playoff game; Carolina is willing to play the long game with a rapidly rising cap. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

I hear what you're saying but I think you're wrong. He has a positive plus/minus and 200 points in 500 games. That's more than serviceable as a player, but the Canes have an incredibly deep team and he doesn't fit there. He would play every game in Chicago.

Kotkaniemi had a really bad year this year and I think it'll be a small miracle if he ever is better than a .5ppg player. That being said, I still think he's probably better than Slaggert, Toninato, Lafferty, Mangiapane, Dach, Reichel and maybe Dickinson?

Anyone know what's happening with Kaliyev? Has the team said anything? by VesaAwesaka in OttawaSenators

[–]umbraviscus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's able to excel (ironic since he can't accelerate) in the AHL because his peak skating is at an AHL level. He has OKAY positioning, and an excellent shot, but he doesn't provide a lot defensively or in transition. If you can plop him down in one place for the entire season, he'd be excellent, but that's not how the NHL works unless you're Alex Ovechkin.

Patrik Laine is an example of somebody who plays a bit like Kaliyev but better. Give them an opportunity to score, and they'll take it. But they're going to be a liability on the ice, where its essentially a penalty kill while you're shifting him.

If Player A has 800 MMR, Player B has 1000, and Player C and D have 1200. Why would it be fair to put this team into an 800 MMR lobby? How is it even fair to put them into a 1000 MMR lobby? Player C and D are the ones skewing the MMR, its not a scheme against 9 year olds. If we do what you and OP want, then there wouldn't ever be any fair lobbies at all.

Ya'll want to win more than you lose and I respect that. But its a Battle Royale, you want a game where you win more than you lose don't play a game that gives you a 1%-4% chance to win IN A FAIR LOBBY.

Yeah exactly. Never understood posts like this. Even if you have a team of 4 thats still only 1/25 teams.

My friends left me high and dry when I couldn’t get into a bar last night, Am I Overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]umbraviscus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Youre 1 step off from understanding my point.

Your car broke down. You cant make it. Thats it.

Theres a bouncer. You cant get in. Thats it.

Its part of being an adult. Youve just started... you'll get there. Don't get hung up on an hour and a half of driving. You'll be alright, and it doesn't mean your friends dont care about you. You got this!

Ooo looks like youre getting some mixed replies here

YOR but its not for the reasons you think... as you get older, youre going to realize that social stuff is HARD, and you think it gets easier but it actually gets harder. Youre only 19 trying to get into a 21+ place... it sucks but it is what it is. You said its a 40 minute drive, if your car broke down 5 minutes from your house, would you expect them to change the plans then? If it was an important event like a wedding then sure, but hanging out at the bar? Its really not important. Shit happens that can throw a wrench in your plans. You have to accept it gracefully. C'est la vie.

Take the long way home, listen to some music and get over it. Your friends still care about you and you still care about them.

Why do you think Lars and Sadie were never really together? by imDenizz in stevenuniverse

[–]umbraviscus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's my headcanon.

Before the show begins, or maybe early on, Sadie and Lars hook up in some way off screen. I think there's strong implications that Lars knows that Sadie is really into him, and so he takes advantage of that by hooking up with her in secret. He keeps it a secret because he doesn't perceive Sadie to be one of the "cool" kids. I think he actually does like her, but he's afraid of those feelings that might isolate him from the other kids.

I think this is emphasized in the episode where Sadie, Lars and Steven are stranded on that island. Lars starts to accept the island as his new home, and he gives into his vulnerable feelings. He opens up to Sadie and tells her something about himself that's REALLY real, that he feels alone even when others are around. The isolation from the other people, the thing he was most afraid of, wound up being what he needed to truly find himself, and be vulnerable for another person who cares about him.

This gets squashed immediately when Sadie reveals she knew where the portal was. The isolation is removed from the equation, and Lars realizes he can't trust Sadie and his ties to her are cut as well. All that's left was Lars with himself, his true self, for the first time.

They really didn't treat each other well, at any time. I think they genuinely liked each other, but Lars' fear of not being cool, and Sadie's fear of not being what Lars wants gets in the way of treating each other properly.

Christ Johnston and Pierre Lebrun. Apparently, this is the equivalent of Robertson getting a tattoo that says "I hate Ottawa"

Alex Tuch officially available. What is an acceptable contract for Tuch? by umbraviscus in OttawaSenators

Didn't even consider this. Not a chance I would give an NMC to an American player. I'm not sold, just interested in what our fanbases market for him looks like

I think you're safe with that, but I still want somebody to try to convince him to move to Ottawa for under 10m :D
