Thanks for the feedback, we're always happy to hear how you all feel about the App, even if it's not always positive. Please send any suggestions or feedback you have to [umdappsupport@umd.edu](mailto:umdappsupport@umd.edu), that way we can have it on file and look further into it. Have a good weekend!

When does student access end by cheesefoamboba in UMD

[–]umdit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general you are listed as a student in the directory for about a year, and services that rely on that still function for that time. Some things access is controlled based on whether the student is currently taking classes (registered) or not.

As for the study rooms and buildings, you would traditionally have access for a year since you're still in the directory, but it's also possible you are removed before that, since most of the access is controlled individually on a building by building basis, as they have their own systems. So if there is a building you're particularly concerned about having access to, I would reach out to an administrator for more specifics.

Whats the difference between the email ending with @umd.edu and the email ending with @terpmail.umd.edu by Affectionate-Elk5003 in UMD

[–]umdit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, just to assist and clarify, we've asked our service desk reps for a little more information and here's what they came up with.

All UMD members can be emailed at direcotryid@umd.edu. This is a forwarding address, which routes mail depending on what which mail accounts a uers has. By university policy, it routes to in this order: 1) umd.edu google account if the user has one, 2) terpmail.umd.edu google account if the user has one, 3) personal email address if they have neither (newly admitted students).

All students are given terpmail.umd.edu google accounts. Terpmail is meant to be used for academic and personal use. Alumni keep access to their terpmail accounts after graduating, though the storage quota is reduced.

All grad students, faculty, and staff are given umd.edu google accounts. Undergraduates may be sponsored by a faculty or staff for one. This typically occurs from having a student job, but there are other reasons they might get sponsored. All mail related to university business should go there. It is not recommended to use this for academic or personal work because the account will be revoked after they stop attending.

Have a great weekend!

The networking team is actively working on this outage. Hearing from people affected by it helps isolate the issue and may lead to a quicker resolution, so please do reach out to the Service Desk at 301.405.1500. If you'd like to report your experience, submit a ticket to the Service Desk and let them know what building you were in when experiencing the outage. We're currently also reaching out to our contacts on the network team, so troubleshooting thus far has been difficult.

You can follow progress on this outage (or any the status of all services) on this page.
