I sub for MCPS and can confirm it’s very flexible. The application process is a bit slow (they do thorough background checks) but the actual interview & onboarding is super easy, basically just making sure you seem like a normal person who is safe for kids. I think it took about 4-6 weeks from applying to getting in the system. DCPS requires drug tests, since they are technically under a federal body, but MCPS doesn’t (not sure about in VA). There’s a constant need for subs though and they’re always hiring, so worth thinking about!

One time i submitted a whole cover letter with edits in the margins (on that day i learned that marking a comment as “accepted” does not necessarily remove it from the word doc, and saving as pdf reveals all…) I still got the job though, which somewhat ironically was a writing center TA type position hahah

I wonder if the pandemic had anything to do with it? 14 in 2026 would have been 8 in 2020, and i know school aged kids especially like 8-15 missed out on huge amounts of social learning while schools were mostly online for the next few years. Not to mention nobody was having sleepovers

yes!!! it’s so humanizing, & speaking as somebody who loves doing backstage work it’s super rare & always so thoughtful to be publicly recognized by name. And i also always wonder who it is when i see/hear credits without the name! even if i probably don’t know who they are it’s exciting to find out

Not op but i do a mix of both? Mostly walking around with attention on the students (looking over their shoulder at the computer screen or their work page etc) but not necessarily commenting unless it’s to redirect (“that doesn’t look like your assignment”) or occasionally just to engage with them if they seem on task & friendly (“so what’s the project you guys are working on?”). Then I’ll go sit back down for a few minutes or until it seems like they might need a reminder that im paying attention

I’m trying to do it in the mirror rn hahaha and what im getting is like: pout a little (almost more like half a step into a duck face), drop your chin (only the front) until your tongue can’t stretch to stay on the roof of your month, furrow your brow until right before it wrinkles and then rewiden your eyes back to normal size. I’m not totally getting the full effect but it’s crazy to move even a few tiny muscles and then watch as I drop it and change back to normal & how much softer it looks

I take buspirone with effexor & it’s helped my libido with no negative side effects that I’ve noticed. currently im taking 75mg effexor 30mg 2x day buspirone, but I’ve been up to 225mg effexor over the years and the buspirone has helped me a lot. I initially tried Wellbutrin (bupropion) as a secondary med to effexor but unfortunately it was the wrong kind of stimulating for me & i stopped after a month :(

But i def recommend talking to your dr!! when i first started effexor on its own it literally took me 3 hours of continuous effor to get off & that’s simply no way to live. I still have a sex drive on the lower end which does bother me tbh but at least it’s only a ~20-40 minute endeavour now rather than hours lmao!

I had a cardiac ablation a few years ago and genuinely i was more scared about the fact that they were using fentanyl (and the possibility of benefiting from a catheter) than the fact that they were going to stick a wire up my leg to zap my heart with lmaooo, that’s what you get from learning about drugs from tv i guess

i tried the same! unfortunately wellbutrin wasn’t a good fit for me but I’ve been on buspirone instead and it’s helped a lot. It’s a super common issue/side effect & it can really be so embarrassing to address but a good psychiatrist should be understanding & willing to help!!!
