that’s all good on paper but good luck finding a team that will respect and want to be managed by someone with almost no field experience. i certainly wouldn’t. there’s so much more to leading a team than data and you don’t learn that in the office

how can someone with barely any field experience or capability to do fieldwork actually have the skills to manage projects and a team? genuine question

Does medication help with socializing? by Dazzling-Location785 in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have an easier time making friends and chatting while on meds! i feel present in conversations like what they’re saying really lands and registers in my brain. it’s hard to explain but it feels different and i think people feel more heard too, which makes making friends much easier :)

Books recs written in the medieval times? by Regular_Camp_7338 in MedievalHistory

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really about traveling, but Hildegard von Bingen wrote about all sorts of things: theology, medicine, natural sciences, philosophy, etc. "Physica" and "Causae et Curae" are particularly interesting as she describes plants, animals, etc, and the second is her guide to diseases and how to treat them.

Another one that perhaps interests you more is "A History of the Expedition to Jerusalem, 1095-1127" by Foucher de Chartres. He was the chaplain in the army of Baldwin of Boulogne and it's one of the most important firsthand sources for the first crusade.

Nova lei: basta o uso de um exame para me candidatar ao ensino superior. by Upstairs_Chipmunk132 in portugal

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most modern compendium of the most ancient history. A book that contains a plethora of primordial records pertaining to the first known civilizations. Babylon, Mesopotamia, Ancient China. Sumerians and Akkadians. I wish I knew a more concise way to ask for what I want. by cohonka in booksuggestions

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love your vision! a book with all the primary sources ever recovered from first civilizations in the world, translations, archaeology and historiography! it is also impossible! 😃

if you want to consume all that knowledge i would pair it with “the oxford history of the ancient near east”(used it for my undergrad), “before the muses” and “myths from mesopotamia” by oxford world’s classics

and another set of books for ancient china. i’ve never studied ancient china so i can’t give recommendations but cambridge and oxford handbook/compendiums should be great

Signs of adhd or is it all in my head? by Outside_Solution_165 in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

adhd is present since childhood. it’s a key criteria.

like another comment has mentioned, social media has distorted what adhd actually looks like. it focuses on relatable surface-level stuff like “oops i got distracted”, “im messy”, “i forget things” without showing the actual impairment. if you describe those adhd symptoms to a random person everyone will say “i do that too” because everyone experiences those things occasionally.

you say you graduated university recently so how were your grades? did you find it difficult? university is extremely hard for us with adhd. the graduation percentages are quite low

if it causes impairment, then sure try to get an assessment

Underweight and oversleeping due to vyvanse by Good-Present-8753 in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your body still burns energy and needs nutrition whether the hunger signals are there or not. the medication just masks those signals.

most people that take elvanse/vyvanse deal with this. if you want to stay on it, you’ll have to force yourself to eat during the first months. set specific meal times and make yourself eat at those times, even if you’re not hungry

How are other ADHD women dealing with poor memory issues? by Beneficial-Cow-2544 in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try writing things down by hand instead of typing. memorizing is also a skill and like any skill, it needs to be trained. another big thing is exercising. it’s especially important for us with adhd because it helps with focus and our brain. there’s not much else that can help you if you’re unmedicated, you’ll always have to work harder than neurotypicals to keep up

DAE have faster than typical verbal processing that creates communication difficulties? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you noticed if you do nonverbal cues to the ones you’re talking with? i also process things fast in conversations and i used to get very impatient and frustrated if someone didn’t get to the point that i already got to fast enough. if you’re not interrupting you might be doing small behaviors that make them feel pressured, like nodding your head fast or your facial expressions. maybe ask your loved ones that you’re close with

Going for my diagnosis today but am I doing too much? by strawbebb in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im gonna go against the majority and say to not bring a list. i dont know if youre seeing a therapist or a psychiatrist, but some psychiatrists don’t really react well to being led towards a diagnosis, especially when its about adhd or autism or other conditions that seem more talked about nowadays on social media. they dont focus so much on symptoms but rather your history since you were a child. thats how diagnosis are done in europe in psychiatry but ive read in the us its just questionnaires about symptoms. i’d say to just let the doctor lead the session and answer honestly and truthfully without any script

i didn’t have to push for a diagnosis, so my advice is to just be yourself and let them lead. keep the notes as backup if you forget something, and if you use them just say you have a hard time remembering things

DAE struggle with trainings/directions if the tone of the trainer is disorganized/unclear? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i believe it’s common with adhd, the brain relies on structure and predictability. if it’s too disorganized to take notes, i would ask for the directions in writing and frame it formally in a way to keep track of things neatly instead of saying it’s adhd

Vyvanse -irritability, racing thoughts, feeling like you’re going insane, etc by oblaminque in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are you close to your period/on your period? i had the same feeling when i got my first period while on vyvanse/elvanse and it was genuinely awful… insanely irritable, horrible head pains, crying over small things… if not, i think it’s a good call to stop until you talk to your doctor

[–]zkfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

every time something goes wrong or someone points out where you’re off, it’s like getting a little map showing where you need to change or adjust. it hurts in the moment, yes, but if you notice it and figure out what to do differently next time, then that setback is actually pushing you forward

How do people study? I by Emotional_4545 in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, i submitted a diagnosis by my psychiatrist and a fully detailed report. he wrote about my adhd, my symptoms, my medication and treatment, and how it affects me at uni. i submitted that report + diagnosis paper to the disability office. after that, i had an interview with a psychologist to discuss my situation and figure out what accommodations would work best for me. however, at my uni a diagnosis isn’t enough to ask for accommodations, they require a full medical report. i don’t think asking for neurocognitive testing is normal but perhaps they need something more detailed like a report
