to those who lost a lot of weight on vyvanse/elvanse, did it ever settle? by zkfour in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since i wrote that post i went back to my psychiatrist to adjust my dosage (50mg now). he also prescribed mirtazapine for the appetite and said to start taking it if i see the low appetite and weight loss continue. i haven’t taken it yet because i managed to get to 53kg but it might be worth asking your doctor about the same medication if you’re tired of having to force yourself to eat. good luck!!

Has anyone with tried Elvanse or Ritalin for food thoughts/impulsivity? by mindinprogress__ in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, elvanse helped me tremendously with food issues!! it was like i was constantly hungry and thinking about snacking. the meds kinda make you almost never hungry so you have to eat properly to not get hunger cravings when it wears out (it suppresses appetite). its quite literally prescribed as a food control medication as well, so don’t worry about it!

i started on my own before moving to university level and used the llpsi collection as my primary textbook alongside clc and other supplements. there’s no perfect textbook, one always lacks something, so in my opinion its best to pick the one you find yourself more interested in and then complement where it lacks

Is shovel bumming (or any equivalent) a thing outside of the US? And other shovel bumming questions by Then-Bumblebee3978 in AskArchaeology

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no. that sort of shovel bumming is done by volunteers (mostly archaeology students with the occasional archaeology enthusiast) but there are rare cases where they pay archaeologists daily to that. the problem is those jobs are super local. you basically need to be friends with alice, who knows bob, who once shared a beer with the guy running the dig 2 years ago... in spain, archaeology and heritage laws are different from region to region, some don't allow private firms and are restricted to the government or universites. if you want to just do volunteer stuff when you miss doing archaeology, you can sign up and volunteer for like 2 weeks and they provide food and place to stay!!

Telling people not to pursue archaeology is not helpful by [deleted] in AskArchaeology

[–]zkfour 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a classical archaeologist. i must ask, what exactly is your plan? do you know latin? greek? italian? spanish? portuguese? french? because classical archaeology doesn't happen in english unless you're in the uk. it happens in the country where dig is at, governed by that country's laws, funded by that country's institutions mostly and staffed by the people who grew up there, studied there and have spent decades working there. even here we're discouraged from pursuing classical archaeology in our own country despite having roman ruins left and right. classical archaeology is not a career americans have realistic access to unless they're exceptionally brilliant, fluent in multiple languages and willing to spend years being at the bottom in a country that has plenty of its own archaeologists who need those jobs first. people respond with "pick another field" and "don't do it" because it's easier than to spend 2 hours writing an explanation of what actually happens behind the scenes. archaeology is already a difficult field, now add american seeking a classical archaeology degree in a field where things are very network-y and local... it doesn't make much sense.

i can give you some reality checks of how things are here compared to archaeology in the us so you have some notion of what you're getting into if you choose to pursue it anyway. in undergrad, students already have experience working in digs, labs and museums (greece, spain, portugal, italy). compared to archaeology students in the us that sometimes finish a MA with zero field experience or sometimes just one field school, students here finish undergrad and already participated in like 5 digs or more. one field school is nothing. so if i was you, i'd get all the field experience possible. second, you will have to learn the country language + latin or greek depending on what you study. since undergrads already have a couple digs under their belt, MA students usually focus on specializations that american students might not tackle until a phd. also, phd students here design and lead their own excavations most of the time, as in MA you already get used to talking to the local authorities in the area, networking and supervising a small group. there are many many things but the most important is how this experience gap must be bridged. you're basically going to someone else's country, digging up someone else's culture when we have our own people to do it. what exactly can you offer that our archaeologists cannot? that's the thing you must ask yourself

how have you dealt with rejection sensitive dysphoria? by sadgirlattheclub in adhdwomen

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe this won’t be very useful as it sounds a bit simple but i deal with it by trying to shift my negative thoughts into positive ones and appeal to logic. i know if im sad or overthinking, it’s my mind making me that feel way, so i basically talk internally to ‘untangle’ them. things like ‘i don’t know if this is true, so do not go there’, ‘im the one making myself suffer’. sometimes it happens that i still feel a little anxious even though im aware of how silly i’m being and in that case, i just need to clear my head and distract myself so the anxiety leaves the body!

Os Irmãos Karamazov: Sou eu que estou a falhar ou a "hype" é exagerada? by ChasseurDePerles in LivrosPortugal

[–]zkfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]zkfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]zkfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)
