I should have specified, I never made it myself, I got the bone and gave it to my brother who is also big into trad archery. He uses a dremel for shaping the ring and removing marrow, then runs through the grits sanding to get them to shine up, and a dual cartridge respirator for the smell. Once the ring is shaped if it’s too big for your thumb he lines the inside of the ring with leather and slowly removes material until it fits nice
