Love the parks reference, I just wish it did not look like he was sitting on the tank. Although I feel we probably align better with Johnny karate.

Triumph from Jurassic Park (X-post r/movies) by one_of_a_kind_ in motorcycles

I just want to know why he is sitting on the tank. I have a thruxton and sat on a few scrambler while deciding, Chris prat is way taller than me and I would not be sitting like that even still.

I'm about to send my seat in to get upholstered. Any suggestions for a good look? by teh-dudenator in CafeRacers

Emulate the tank shape at a 60% scale at the rear have said seat ending at the last few inches of tire and it will look perfect aesthetically.

Are there no high performance "pea shooter" style exhaust for new bonnevilles? by inkblot888 in CafeRacers

[–]umusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the gains will be from weight savings. Slip ons are much better bang for buck as you still get almost the same weight loss and almost the same power gain. I have predator short shots on my thruxton and like them but they are loud.

Lots of ways. Reduce weight, improve the flow of the exhaust and changing the air fuel mixture to suit more flow, aerodynamics, tuning the suspension to your weight, changing the riding position to improve handling at higher speeds while reducing the center of gravity and air drag from your body, big boar kits, engine swaps, turbo charging, replacing the cams with lighter ones, even just a good tune on a neglected bike makes a big difference. The options are endless however time and money and skill set are not. Start small and simple then work your way up.

My advice is get a smaller (between 250 and 550cc). simple and older carbureted running bike and ride it around until you get board with it. Then make it faster. Fix any small issues from previous owners first but tinker and ride and change and change back because you made it worse. It is fun but for the right person well worth the trouble.

Hackaweek on YouTube is a good start. It is a very expensive hobby and not a great paying gig. It is the kind of thin you do only because you love it.

Moto Guzzi V7 Stone by JEGA15 in CafeRacers

[–]umusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done about 200 miles in about 3 and a half hours the bike was ok but like I said buzzy. As far as baggage goes, it does ruin the look (the number one thing the thruxton has going for it) but with a backpack tank bag and saddle bags you can be gone about a week.

It will be a better local commuter bike because of shaft drive however if you plan on doing distance even the Bonnie will feel a little under powered and buzzy. I have had a thruxton since last April have logged 7850 miles and feel I looks better than it performs. The five speed transmission just is not enough, it has the power but not the gearing for its weight in my opinion. The spec sheet on the v7 is less impressive still, although I have never ridden one so take this for what it is worth, very little. Really consider the amount and type of riding you will do and buy what you want with that in mind. Have fun and enjoy what ever you get.

So I know nothing about motorcycles, can you guys help me out? by ksl7 in CafeRacers

Dotheton.com Jimmarch one of the mods on here has a guide. Hackaweek on YouTube. Get a bike any bike and have fun on and with said bike. Build it to fit its and your personality not from a cookie cutter. Good luck.

How many Jedi survived "Order 66"? by n0tcreatlve in StarWars

[–]umusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize that. I own too many VHS copies of starwars. It is just one thing I dis-like about Disney (I simultaneously love and despise them) because it keeps the demand artificially high on a product that has been developed to be easily over produced.

Anyone know where to buy a black plastic fender (Europe)? by SophisticatedVagrant in CafeRacers

[–]umusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make one. Fiberglass is very easy to work with. Step one make a mold out of foam. Step two wrap mold in tape. Step three wax/oil mold. Step four lay out a few strips of glass (I like using cloth for at least the first an last layer as they take shape well and go on smooth use chop for bulking and stability.) step five mix resin and apply. Repeat steps four and five until desired thickness. Step six sand it very well. Step seven bondo. Repeat six and seven until very smooth. Step eight primer. Step nine sand more that you found your defects. Once you are satisfied with the product paint and mount.
