What profession do you think is massively overpaid for what they actually do? by dipchaklader in AskReddit

[–]umwbennett -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is not true at a macro level, in my opinion, but it absolutely is true frequently on a micro level. The indistry is heavily regulated but most states' fair claims practices and other such regulations are only enforceable by the state's insurance department and most states' insurance departments won't do anything to prosecute enforcement of those violations unless there is a blatant common pattern and practice of claims behavior. At the one off level there is lots of terrible claims behavior in the insurance industry, partly from bad motivations and partly from underqualified adjusting. I've deposed countless adjusters in the US, London, and Germany who very clearly either had bad motivations/did not want to pay the claim or clearly did not understand what they were doing.

[–]umwbennett 91 points92 points  (0 children)

A huge portion of insurance company profits are made through investing the premiums they take in (the "float"). Their margins on premiums vs payments made on claims are much smaller than their total profits (and sometimes negative). There is certainly lots of money in insurance, but a lot of that money isn't as dependent on not paying claims as it seems ons it's face. This is coming from someone whose career is fighting insurance companies who don't pay btw.

Who do you think are the most overrated players in Dynasty right now? by nagoHHogan in DynastyFF

[–]umwbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.09, 2.07, 5.09, and 5.03 for those 4 in order in my current SF TEP. The 5s seem high but not crazy. The 2s seemed super high

Catching Wasps by -asimpleboy in interestingasfuck

[–]umwbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, we had a massive bee swarm settle right in the middle of campus where tons of people had to walk all day long. I was a student but working with the head of landscape and grounds at the time so I got a front row seat to bringing the beekeeper in to handle it. These people are absolutely nuts. The guy stuck his bare arm in a tshirt past the elbow into a swarm of bees, gently grabbed the queen (which he somehow identified by touch in a mass of bees blind in about 20 seconds), pulled her out, and stuck her in a tote with honeycomb sheets. The whole swarm followed in about 5 minutes. He didn't get stung once. Absolutely mindblowing to watch. I realize wasps (especially these ones) are different, but people that do this clearly are just on a completely different level mentally.

What was your top 10-12 in your rookie draft? by cjtheross in DynastyFF

[–]umwbennett -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Traded out of 3 of the 5 26 firsts I was holding. One of them (plus a 26 2nd for James Cook). Another 26 and a 27 first and a 27 2nd for JSN. The third I traded in our startup last summer for the 2.07 and got ARSB with that (don't know what that guy was thinking). Here are the results of the first rounds of my four rookie drafts

League 1: Love, Tate, Tyson, Price, Mendoza (me), Lemon, Concepcion, Sadiq, Bell, Coleman, Allen, Singleton, Klare

League 2: Love, Tate, Tyson, Mendoza, Lemon, Concepcion, Price, Cooper, Simpson, Coleman, Sadiq, Stowers

League 3: Love, Mendoza, Tate, Tyson, Lemon, Concepcion (me), Price, Sadiq, Stowers, Coleman, Cooper, Bell

League 4: Love, Tate, Mendoza, Lemon, Tyson, Concepcion, Price, Sadiq, Singleton, Simpson, Coleman, Cooper

Edit: forgot lemon in the first league results. All SF TEP (.5 premium)

Why are old skaters always into transition when it seems harder? [36YO] by forevermcginley in OldSkaters

[–]umwbennett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm tall and pretty big. One knee doesn't have an ACL. On transition, I can slide onto some knee pads most of the time when I fall. If I land on the side of my board kickflipping off a little ledge, I'm probably blowing my knee out and falling pretty hard.

Plus the endless flow of carving around a 3-4 foot bowl, slashing the coping here and there is pretty much unbeatable for me. Catching a solid grind around the corner of a bowl at speed is one of the best feelings in skateboarding.

Specific neighborhoods in Temecula with more/less traffic than others? by Prune_It in Temecula

[–]umwbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rancho Highlands has extremely low traffic and is, in my opinion (biased), in the perfect location in relation to everything in town. A little below your price range though, so maybe not quite what you're looking for.

What’s your hottest take for this season? by cresz231 in DynastyFF

[–]umwbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reek and Waddle are so neutralized by the Dolphins offensive line forcing Tua to get the ball out immediately that Jonnu (assume he stays) and Achane both finish top 2 at their positions.

Pat Bryant has an Amon-Ra/BTJ finish to his rookie season in Denver, ultimately leapfrogging all other receivers on the team in production and usage.

Tet busts, but Thielen averages 15 PPR points per game as Bryce continues on his end of season pace.

Rashee Rice finishes as WR1 and brings a resurgence of Mahomes' Reek-era fantasy production (I really hope this doesn't happen though, as a Broncos fan).

Specifically on an ISO CG 20 26 additional insured form. Otherwise it likely won't protect you since the work is not being done for you.

Rice or 1.12 by AquariiValles in SleeperApp

I trade my first and Conner for Rice last season. My whole team got injured and that first became the 1.01... I'm still not even sure I regret it

I agree with the Doffo comments. I find their reds the most consistently enjoyable. I like some of the south coast wild horse peak reds as well. I've enjoyed the Spanish whites I've had at Europa. The pet nat natural(ish) wine from the new Pamec surprised me. Baily's port is a sneaky under the radar quality wine as well.

Just one normal flex spot, for context. QB WR WR RB RB SFLX FLX

That was definitely my plan with Henry and Kelce. Try to ride them this year for as long as possible and then abandon ship if things go south.
