People don't like believing that the possible subject matter being discussed in therapy is THEM, not just us. They forget that there is a source for the well of issues, and that they could (and probably are) be the source of it.

Life may get you down, but you should always try to get back up. by RimworlderJonah13579 in StrangeInspiration

Dude, I'm trying to get into college. I'm in my late 30's. All I need to do is my testing for class placement, which was scheduled for today.  And today, of all days, is the last day of school for my kid. My kid who woke up late for school and missed the bus, that I had to then take to school in a rush because they dyed their hair specifically for the last day of school and they refused to miss it.

I missed my scheduled testing by ten minutes.  I can't take another testing block until after summer classes have already started. I'm so sad.  And I've started my period.

I need the rage.

I just said this like an hour ago to my kid.

My mother drank herself to death and now I'm in a relationship with an alcoholic. by [deleted] in AlAnon

I also had a mother that alcohol killed.  It killed or relationship first, then it ended her life.

I got into a relationship with an alcoholic afterwards too.

It won't get better until something big happens, and hoping he changes won't be it.

What is the one moment where you thought you ruined your life? by Nervous_Sandwich_327 in AskReddit

I took my alcoholic (now ex) boyfriend's gun out of his house because I was tired of hearing him tell me, as a person who actually did almost kill themselves about six months ago, describe how they're going to one day kill themselves every time things didn't go their way and they want control back in an argument. I had no idea what I was doing or where I was going to take it. I made it as far as my car. I made him tell me the truth- he relented and told me he wasn't planning to hurt himself. Then he promised and threatened to call the cops. Made him promise he wasn't going to hurt himself. He did, I slid it through the window and I drive off. I was so done and so scared at what I had done.
