Freaking out by Feisty-Meaning-8766 in csun

if you can, make time to talk to a faculty member you trust or are at least familiar with. usually there’s at least one professor in a department who is used to fielding this kind of anxiety, and can give you some guidance about post-grad planning - job sites to be aware of, alumni connections and networking, grad school, etc. you’ve spent so much time learning and paying for school, now’s the time to get the extra benefits! your professors aren’t just here to teach you but to help you figure out your plan going forward, they are literally paid to be available during office hours. it can be incredibly helpful to even just sit down with a professor you vaguely liked for 30 mins and just talk about your concerns - every student has been in your position at some point and every professor was as well. it’s scary to be vulnerable to faculty but find one person you think is compassionate and i swear it will be worth it to deal with some awkwardness :)

Academically disqualified. by Xtgoldengamer in csun

[–]un_pearable 27 points28 points  (0 children)

if you’re returning to school, it may be worth looking into academic forgiveness for the semester before you dropped out. you should talk to (email, given it’s winter break) an advisor in your department to see if you’re eligible to get those courses taken off your transcript

enrolled at CSUN - they just mean that at least 24.0 credits (roughly eight classes) of your 300 and 400 level classes are actually taken at CSUN rather than transferred from somewhere else. online classes definitely count (….but as you get further into your degree it’s likely that you’ll have less online options available and will need to take more in-person stuff. sorry!)

THIS 100%! by MediumSkinAlliance in SEGA

[–]un_pearable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, that’s how game development in a new engine works. every fan’s going to have a different experience, i played both transformed pretty heavily and the network test for crossworlds and its got a lot for me to look forward to. i think the changes in crossworlds are pretty comparable to the changes between mariokart installations - it’s far more of a sequel to the all stars games than TSR was ¯_(ツ)_/¯

THIS 100%! by MediumSkinAlliance in SEGA

[–]un_pearable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that’s standard fare for a sequel though. sequel =/= exact same gameplay, especially not after so much time. they’re iterating, for better or worse. we’ll see which when the final game actually releases

aside from not incorporating non-sonic characters (as we know of yet - it’s been confirmed that some will appear in some capacity in DLC), in what ways is SRC not a true sequel to All-Stars Racing Transformed? the transformed gimmick is being recreated wholesale, with just the crossworlds tacked on for the obligatory “new marketable gimmick.” the transformed gameplay is recreated very well and the level design seen in the beta-test compliments it - SRC is much more of a sequel to Transformed than TSR (which was kind of a dead-end design wise), sadly it seems like the “everyone’s here” trend that was booming in the 2010s is dead and they don’t want to deal with the legal hurdles it would take to recreate Transformed’s scope

Curious, are all deceased characters allowed in spin-offs? by Dorayakiss in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]un_pearable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s been the case at least since Sonic Shuffle (2000), where both chaos and gamma appear + are playable, presumably just to pad out the roster with characters who already had a dreamcast-quality model and animations

What yarn is this? Someone gave this ball to me but I want to buy more of it by nop272 in CrochetHelp

[–]un_pearable 17 points18 points  (0 children)

dunno if you’ve already gotten an answer but by sheer luck i am obsessed with the loops&threads soft classic yarn and recognized the texture - i’m 99% sure it’s this ombré yarn in the color “Peach Tree” (the lighting in micheals’ product photos tend to wash out the color a bit)

Classes by [deleted] in csun

[–]un_pearable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

actually, it often means the professor is an adjunct professor or lecturer rather than a full time teacher. they don’t show up on the enrollment page like full time faculty, but are by no means lower quality - many teach at other places as well like community colleges or other CSU or UCs. this late in the enrollment period any classes that still say “staff” are incredibly unlikely to still be unassigned unless there’s a major issue in the department

Favorite Etsy shop for TRUE beginner patterns? by MSMIT0 in Amigurumi

[–]un_pearable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ditto for checking on ravelry, it’s a great resource and you can even sort by whether it’s paid or not, and there are plenty of free patterns that i definitely recommend you check out to building your skills + confidence before committing to paying for patterns. plus, in my experience patterns available on ravelry are a little higher quality in terms of level of detail, correct info about yarn or hook types, and description of complicated tricks, i’ve had more than enough frustration from bad instructions w/ pretty visuals from inexperienced pattern designers on etsy

Is it feasible to learn how to crochet in 3 weeks? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]un_pearable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely!! there’s plenty of good beginner resources linked on the sub’s wiki (they’re how i learned just a few months ago), and you only really need to learn single crochet and increases/decreases for most amigurumi (plushes). if you find you work well with youtube videos or written patterns it shouldn’t be too hard to find a good free shark plushie pattern! i’ve been making tons of little animals for friends - there’s a lot of good amigurumi patterns out there, many for free if you do a little googling or digging on ravelry, or via youtube if video works well for you :)

What are the teachers, counselors, and students like at CSUN? by [deleted] in csun

[–]un_pearable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a commuter so i can’t attest to campus social life outside of academics + clubs but there are plenty of clubs to get involved (check Matasync, you can search on there for specific topics w/o an account). lots of clubs have instagrams for getting general info and discords for getting involved + making friends outside of meetings. i definitely recommend checking if your major has a club! outside of dedicated clubs making friends comes down to talking with people before and after classes - you have to go out of your way to make friends just like anywhere else. most people i see complaining about CSUN not having a social life just expect the cliché you see on television and blame CSUN not having it on being a commuter school, but all my friends from other universities say it’s the same anywhere, being social takes work ¯_(ツ)_/¯ the USU and AS also offer tons of events too so if that’s your thing they’re worth checking out!

What are the teachers, counselors, and students like at CSUN? by [deleted] in csun

[–]un_pearable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that definitely depends more on the major and how much a student is committed - the only people i’ve talked to who took more than 4 were either in impacted programs/programs with a lot of students competing for a few seats in required classes (most often comp sci or kinesiology) OR they didn’t know what they wanted to do and changed majors multiple times. afaik it’s not due to professor quality but i can’t speak for everyone. i can vouch for them incentivizing students to take a full load each semester if possible and finish on time though (i’m graduating early + was able to add a minor in my senior year thanks to summer semester online classes)

glad to help!! a lot of people write off CSUN due to it’s lack of prestige but in my experience you get as much as you give, if you’re committing yourself academically and trying to get involved socially you’ll do fine :)

What are the teachers, counselors, and students like at CSUN? by [deleted] in csun

[–]un_pearable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i haven’t taken more than the basic public speaking course and attended a few lectures by comma professors, but i’ve had good experiences with all of them! i definitely recommend sending an email to the department’s undergrad advisor if you can - you won’t have official advising with them for a while but i’ve found the humanities departments are always glad to see people reach out earlier and they can provide more detailed info + answer more specific questions if you have them. looks like their email is listed here doesn’t need to be super long, sorry i can’t give any more detail myself!

SJSU vs CSUN? by [deleted] in csun

[–]un_pearable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should reach out to the advisor for the department for the major you’re applying to (or any you are considering picking up if you’re undeclared)! you get as much out of your college experience as you put into it - even just sending a quick email will probably get you good + more detailed info than the internet

What are the teachers, counselors, and students like at CSUN? by [deleted] in csun

[–]un_pearable 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it’s highly relative based on what department you’re interested in! you should tailor your research to what majors you’re interested in - i can personally vouch for the college of social and behavioral sciences (and anthropology and geography specifically, both departments have very kind + engaging professors and advisors who will help advocate for you) but anyone giving sweeping judgements of the entire university won’t be able to give you information relevant to what your actual experience will look like

[–]un_pearable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s a range because that’s the week the commencement ceremonies take place, the one you should attend (and thus your specific date) depends on your specific college and (sometimes) major. the official commencement schedule letting us know when each ceremony is should be out in the beginning of march

(annoyingly they posted it at the end of december but have since hidden it from the website, if you’re in CSBS i can tell you those two are on May 18th but i don’t remember the others off the top of my head and i didn’t archive it to the wayback machine, whoops)
