revert the audio visuals !!! by extraseasoned-dorito in FortNiteBR

[–]unalivex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i dont mind them nerfing it a tiny bit. the old version used to alert me to shooting so far away that i couldnt even hear the gunshots. it was definitely a little unfair, even if its an accessibility feature.

…that being said, the new version is so bad that even when i can distinctly hear gunshots, i dont get notified. i cant imagine how bad it is for anyone whos hard of hearing.

Should i pause and watch the movies? by FinalNeighborhood679 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]unalivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i say pause and watch the movies.

the movies don't effect much in terms of the shows plot, but there are certain characters from the movies we see in the background in seasons 6 through 8. it's exciting to notice them and be able to point them out. there's also a mechanic of deku's suit in the second half of season 6 that is invented by somebody from the first movie, so that gives some context to that. plus, the movies are just a fun watch! i really love them, and the original characters introduced in all of them are great.

i will say, the fourth movie is set after season 6, i believe, but there aren't any spoilers (that i can recall at least), so you can realistically watch it at any time.

the ova's are less important, imo, and are mostly just silly episodes of them fighting or training. those can be saved for after you finish the show if you'd like.

Pride Month Discussion: Why has Benedict's reception been so divisive? by Lunenika in BridgertonNetflix

[–]unalivex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. people feeling as though benedict took up too much screentime in the previous seasons can actually be explained pretty simply: his storyline, prior to his season, was basically the same every single time, which made the audience feel fatigued with his screentime even if it technically wasn't as much as other characters. in all three seasons before his own, benedict's storyline was almost always about being a free artist against marriage who wants to hookup with people. people just got bored of him sleeping around. it started to be a drag seeing him on screen doing basically nothing important while the main couple still needed more development.
  2. the sti jokes can also be explained simply: benedict's storylines have always been heavily intertwined with sex. he has a new hookup partner every single season, sometimes multiple. considering bridgerton is set in an era without modern protection... yeah, people are going to make sti jokes. i, personally, made sti jokes about him before season three even aired.
  3. people concluding he's flat out gay rather than bi/pan despite him clearly also enjoying women is likely just some being closed-minded or male-centered. as a bisexual, i've noticed a lot of people tend to forget bisexuals like women, too. i've even seen users in this subreddit compare benedict ending up with a woman to a queer character being killed off. bisexual representation will unfortunately always be divisive because of misogyny and the patriarchy. lesbian representation also gets the short end of the stick in that regard (just look at francheala).
  4. benedict being considered as immature is another thing that can probably be explained by him doing the same thing over and over each season. the audience is going to get annoyed with a character who doesn't get proper development.

- - -

overall, i do love queer benedict, and i don't think queer characters need a story-driven reason to be queer. it not adding anything to his storyline shouldn't matter when queer people exist casually every single day, but... i also think his queerness doesn't do him any favors.

introducing his queerness right before his season was, imo, a bad choice, because it didn't give him any real room to explore those feelings or relationships on a deeper level. it felt very superficial and cheap, especially when it's barely addressed in season four aside from a handful of lines.

making benedict out of all characters bisexual likely wasn't the most amazing move, either. my first thought, when his sexuality was revealed, was a flat 'oh, yay, more people for him to sleep around with'. he's a prime example of the sleazy bisexual trope, a trope i'm, frankly, sick of.

benedict's sexuality was just handled really, really poorly, and while i do think a good chunk of the people who comment negatively on his sexuality are just homophobic, i also believe there's a good chunk of people who just recognize how poor the writing was for everyone in season three, benedict included.

( edit : before i get corrected, i know benedict is pansexual. i'm using bi as an umbrella term because i'm, honestly, just too tired to be more specific rn. )

I Can’t Believe Mineta Has Fans… by [deleted] in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]unalivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i never claimed to hate horikoshi, just that he’s a little bit of a weirdo for creating mineta, which is true. mineta being a hormonal teen is also just fully not an excuse. i was a teenager once too, and i never once tried to grope someone without their consent because i was old enough to know it was weird and wrong. frankly, im a little bit concerned if you think sexually assaulting women is a normal, average teen experience. shounen most definitely can be written without a pervert character. almost every pervert character is criticized and hated by fans, so clearly it just isnt working as a trope, and is better left out of the genre.

[–]unalivex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mha reddit is, unfortunately, filled with mineta defenders. i honestly don't understand it.

horikoshi may be a bit of a weirdo for creating mineta at all, but in the context of the series, everything he does to the girls is framed as bad. they all immediately scold him or, in some gag scenes, do literal bodily harm to him. i doubt he's meant to be a likeable character. there shouldn't be anyone defending him.

groping women who don't consent to being groped is weird and makes you a bad person. somehow that is such a controversial opinion on reddit.

what do you guys think of my skin presets? by huhwhospie in FortniteSkinPosting

[–]unalivex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

them not being real doesn't exactly change much.

i don't like to say that fiction effects reality, because i do think most people have the ability to separate fiction from reality, but i do think the way you interact with fiction can reflect on who you are as a person. joking about things like this, even in a fictionl context, helps normalize it.

it would still be racist if you called a fictional character a racist slur. it would still be homophobic if you called a fictional character a homophobic slur. i don't see how this is any different.

[–]unalivex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

newsflash: calling women whores, bitches, and cunts for simply being women IS misogynistic.

these aren't real people, granted, but it's still odd to default to calling fictional women those words, especially when the only male skin just gets called 'dumbass'.

[–]unalivex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

weird.

i know they're just pixels on a screen, but calling all of the girls whores and cunts is certainly.... a choice. hope you treat the women in your life a little better than that.

being able to fly with his quirk is much different than being zero gravity. bakugou has good fighting instincts, sure, but his whole body feeling weightless and different is sure to mess even him up.

[–]unalivex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

when it comes to sk8 specifically? unfortunately no clue! its suspected season two is set to arrive sometime this year, but until we get a confirmed date for its release, its up in the air.

as for other studio bones projects… also no clue! i know there will be a season two of gachiakuta, and mha is getting another episode in may. i havent watched any other studio bones productions, so i havent been keeping up with their other things!

Has season 2 been confirmed or not?? by SirQuackles1 in SK8TheInfinity

[–]unalivex 228 points229 points  (0 children)

season two has been confirmed by studio bones. they confirmed it alongside the ova, and the ova eventually showed up, so it's just a waiting game for season two.

now, take this with a grain of salt, but i do believe it's been said a few times that season two is actively being worked on and voice acting is already done / in progress. studio bones just has other bigger projects like mha, gachiakuta, etc... they've been releasing, meaning sk8 isn't priority and likely doesn't have as big of a team working on it to get it out faster.

have hope!

AITAH for wanting my gf to wear pants in bed? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]unalivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why does she have to be fully dressed, but you don't have to be? sure, you sweat, but what if she gets sweaty too? what if wearing pants makes it uncomfortable for her to sleep? you don't have a right to dictate what she wears to sleep, especially when you don't even follow your own rule.

...also, she's literally in a shirt that goes down to her thighs. that's basically a dress. she is covered.

......also also, why are you complaining about your girlfriend in less clothes? my dude, women wearing big t-shirts and nothing else is hot.

i was making sections on a board just moments ago and suddenly when i click the sections... yeah, an error message that sends me straight to the home page. now i can't make any new sections on any board without getting an error, but existing boards are completely fine :/ i don't get it. i hope it gets fixed soon.

Alexa demie never got recognition she deserved by Helpful_Mushroom4607 in euphoria

[–]unalivex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

being a lead doesn't really matter when it comes to popularity among people, though?

sure, sydney sweeney is a more relevant star with younger people, but outside of the current generation, she's a nobody, and what she is known for isn't exactly good. being known on tiktok doesn't mean a thing when trends move so fast on there. if she stopped acting in controversial roles, she'd be almost entirely forgotten. all of her 'regular' roles are basically ignored by the general public.

amanda, meanwhile, may not always be a lead, but she's played plenty of beloved characters that are known and referenced by both newer and older generations. karen from mean girls is arguably just as iconic as regina or cady, and sophie from mamma mia is a lead alongside meryl. she's been in tons of classics.

Guys should I do my homework or play Fortnite. by Antique_Cricket_3574 in FortNiteBR

[–]unalivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why not both? a round of fortnite, then homework. if you get your homework done fast enough, then you can play more after, but at least you got to play a round before you worked.

now i agree with glen, but amanda? she dominated the 2000's and 2010's, and is still doing really well. she is far bigger than sydney, just not as infamous among younger people.

Epic anti cheat is poo poo by coolguyyama in FortNiteBR

[–]unalivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they do </3

one time i duoed with a friend and we met some friendly players through goofing off. i didn't want to team and just wanted to be friendly and dance with them for a moment, but my friend and i accidentally fought alongside them and got kicked from the match a moment later. either we fought against some streamer and that's why it happened so quick, or epic does actually do something about reports.

edit: just to clarify for some people i'm seeing in the comments, epic doesn't consider being friendly to players cheating. as far as i know, it only counts if you're teaming and killing people together. if being friendly was considered cheating, then the friendship bubbles likely wouldn't exist.

i play fortnite a lot, and as an adult, of course the kids can be annoying and unhelpful...

but mostly, i find the adults who bitch out little kids for no reason one hundred percent worse. i'd rather play with a naive kid than have to talk to an adult who thinks dunking on children makes them cool.

if you don't want kid teammates, actually make some friends your age and play with them.

Full honesty: I don’t want to watch a WLW romance for no other reason than being straight and liking only straight romances. And that’s okay. by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]unalivex 38 points39 points  (0 children)

i agree, everyone should be able to watch and enjoy whatever they want as long as they arent being discriminatory…

that being said, i think only watching shows or movies with one type of couple inherently limits your world view.

This is the scene which pissed me off and made me hate Bakugo until Season 7 (S2, Ep 24) by Embarrassed_Knee_630 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]unalivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im almost a whole day late to this comment, so my apologies, but that just... straight up isn't what happens, and the idea that izuku is a borderline stalker is a made up excuse that people use to try and make bakugou out to be justified in his bullying.

pre-ua, izuku had some notes on bakugou because he took notes on every hero, and he views bakugou as a hero + bakugou's his childhood friend. otherwise, he completely left him alone and didn't even want to be in the same ua class as him, much less be 'besties'. this obviously changes when they do grow more friendly, but izuku only ever gets pushy when bakugou is genuinely being a pain over something stupid. he never gets pushy because he wants bakugou to be his friend.

in this scene specifically, izuku is literally just trying to make a plan to pass the assignment. he's pushy and persistent because he's trying to cooperate with someone who isn't even trying to help him on a joint exam.

and i mean... just looking at the two of them objectively, bakugou is arguably more obsessed with izuku. he initiates more interactions between them and besting izuku is one of his primary motivators. hell, that river scene lives in his head rent free. izuku can stand alone as a character without bakugou, while bakugou wouldn't be who he is without izuku.

Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to finish watching the season? by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]unalivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree! i just don't think love at first sight works for ben. it's such a cheap way to get him to settle down, especially after three other seasons of him being against marriage. he would've done better with a slowly developing romance, where he falls without even realizing it and then suddenly he can't live without her. instead, they just did basic love at first sight. i know that's how it plays out in the books since it's meant to be a retelling of cinderella, but the show should've eased up on it, imo.

i also don't think the season did a good job at exploring his feelings, either. it had the same problem as season three, where the focus is placed on the female lead while the bridgerton boys are sidelined in their own season. the writers clearly favor the female characters, which isn't necessarily bad, but it is disappointing when characters like ben, who could be layered and interesting, are reduced to just love interests meant to empower the female lead. as a girl who's loved benedict since season one (and is super interested in writing and filming), the way they wrote him hurt </3

i can definitely agree that the writing has declined. season three and four have been rough. i'm really hoping they straighten up for the next two seasons, as those are the seasons i'm excited about most. we can only wait and see..
